Labour voters support trans ruling, first poll reveals - survey

The Supreme Court ruling that trans women are not legally women has been backed by a majority of Labour voters.

A poll of more than 2,500 people found that 42 per cent of Labour voters agreed with the Supreme Court judgement that transgender women are not legally women under the Equality Act.

A third – 32 per cent – disagreed with it, while 12 per cent did not know.

The findings, the first major polling since the ruling, suggest that Sir Keir Starmer’s previously equivocal statements on transgender women are out of touch with the majority of his party voters.

The trouble with the Lib Dems is that they're still trading on a decades old reputation of being the sane, sensible centrists. I'd bet good money that most of their voters have no idea what their position is on stuff like this.

My family were long term Lib Dem voters and I know that my mum agrees with me on this issue and yet I don't think she believed me when I told her how batshit the Lib Dems now are.

my parents were lifelong old-school northern nonconformist Liberals. I don’t think they’d recognise much in the current libdems. ‘Sane and sensible’ has been tarnished over the years by some egregious scandals (too mild a word in some cases) - Jeremy Thorpe, Cyril Smith…

The lesbian groups one is just bloody callous.

I found this astonishing. Even the Judge realised that the arguement from Lesbian groups to be biological women only was compelling.

What is going on in the heads of the people who responsed it wasn't necessary.

????????????????????????????????????

Edited to add that yet again it is right wing voters who are more supportive.

Shock (well not really)

My best theory is that it's men who don't have an opinion because they just don't see lesbian groups as an issue for them to have opinions on.

Of course I'd say you don't have to be lesbian to accept the community has a right to set boundaries.
