Oh another company blaming their staff. Staff who, in Lush's case, (in Australia?) were used for a promo stunt to go naked in 2015.

All that stuff about those who are struggling. From this global company? Don't make me laugh!

Clafoutie · 29/04/2025 23:16

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2025 21:52

'the media is trying to “shift attention from those nicely off, while the rest of us struggle”.'

Fuck me, Lush are a global corporation making millions! It's utterly absurd.

Yes, reminiscent of the ‘ we’re all in the same boat’ statement from the government during austerity…

Also, isn’t it convenient how big corporations are always able to blame a ‘rogue’ staff member when something like this comes to light

Igmum · 29/04/2025 23:17

Appalling but sadly not surprising

Gardenbumblebee · 29/04/2025 23:21

Lush have always got behind random causes to promote their sickly sweet bath dust. I've added a photo of their spy cops campaign from years ago. What the fuck has any of that got to do with bath bombs? Just stick to selling your overpriced tat.

Bath dust.. love it.
Exactly they should stick to selling their stink infused crap.

UrsulasHerbBag · 29/04/2025 23:54

In the party bags? What on earth has their ridiculously overpriced nonsense got to do with transing kids? If a little girl makes a blue bathbomb do they immediately whack her in a chest binder and call her Ezra? Aresholes.

Vile company with utterly idiotic, captured staff. I saw the window display in my local Lush today, scanned the QR code and was directed to a website selling clothing that glorifies breast amputation. I went in and asked if they were aware of this.

Cue a half hour conversation during which I wanted to stop the world and get off. The young man handed me this leaflet. I flicked through it and asked why Lush was promoting an organisation that was advocating for the chemical castration of children.

They tried to tell me it was possible to change sex and that children should have the right to access puberty blockers and hormones.
I remained icily polite throughout, but it was incredible.

I left when I was asked (realising by now that the shop has emptied of customers), but was utterly furious.

Well done for taking the time to explain to the staff, Rebel. They probably never hear anything outside their echo chamber. Sounds as if you may have informed some of the customers too. It takes a lot of courage to speak up as you did 👏👏

LeftieRightsHoarder · 30/04/2025 00:17

ScrollingLeaves · 29/04/2025 21:59

Shocking.

After learning that they were sending out binders to girls a few years ago I already stopped buying anything there.

Me too. It reminds me how often men have grabbed or elbowed my breasts, obviously intending to cause pain.

Sadistic misogynists must be thrilled at the way breast-binding has become cool among teenaged girls. A fad that makes girls hurt and injure themselves! What fun. Even better than the anorexia websites.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 30/04/2025 00:33

As if the overpowering stink of the products emanating from their shop doors weren't already enough to warn you to keep well away... I think that's 100% conclusive now.

It’s very liberating being middle aged and out of F*cks to give about what people think of me. Being well informed and coldly furious made it surprisingly easy. I hope I’ve at least planted a seed of doubt somewhere. At first glance I look/dress like the sort of hippy leftie (which I am) that would be totally on board with this nonsense, so it probably lulls them into an initial false sense of security😂

Minimili · 30/04/2025 05:12

Mindymaby · 29/04/2025 22:18

So… obviously I can’t buy anything from them every again, but I do so love their bubble bars… where can I get similar from?

I stopped using lush about a year ago and I love a bath bomb or bubble bar so I use this company now Ascent bath and body

The bath bombs are cheaper but far better quality and the new bubble bars smell gorgeous. I get a bag of mini bath bombs and just one of them is as strong as a full size lush bath bomb.
I buy from them every month so I have a loyal customer code for 10% off, it’s ASCENTIVES if you do feel like placing an order 🙂.

They also have a rewards points scheme which I really appreciate, it niggled at me that lush preach at you but do nothing to reward loyalty.

Thanks! I've just sent the link to my daughter.

I have a practical reason to dislike them, the stink of their shops makes me wheeze - and I don't have asthma. If she goes in, I have to wait well away, because at the very least, I get a nasty, soapy chemical taste in my mouth.

ArabellaScott · 30/04/2025 06:51

Merrymouse · 29/04/2025 22:25

I am intrigued by their business model - how are they surviving when places like bodyshop are going bust, and their products are much more expensive? Their products don't seem to change that much from year to year and apart from smell don't seem to offer more than something that could be bought for a 10th of the price.

Are they popular on TikTok?

There's a whole report on their strategy on the link above. Global expansion into new markets, they are shunning social media, apparently. But they are losing money.

Well, there is that too.
I cough and choke and pass on the far side of the road.

The pdf of the booklet is here for anyone interested and yes it is as bad as The Times article suggests.

@TinyRebel Jesus!!! But well done for sticking that out.

Re the leaflet, I spend a small amount of time on Bluesky and keep seeing posts in the same paranoid vein. Apparently the only reason that some media could possibly have been so quick to report and comment favourably the SC decision is because huge amounts.of dark money had been priming them. That JK is in a signal chat group conspiring with the govt and media (image may appear of that one, the bluesky poster is American i thin). Etc

And not just because the SC said what loads of us have been thinking all along 🙄.

As a donor to FWS myself I felt rather offended to be labelled as in the pay of a right wing conspiracy.

Unfortunately this has crossed the line and will not be buying any products anymore.

ValerieDoonican · 30/04/2025 08:12

(if it appears, that post was part of a thread on their investigation into signal.chats mainly among billionaire broligarchs in the US, which they had got hold of some leaks from)

Well, that wasn't hysterical at all, was it, boys and girls? And I note in passing (and I admit it was in passing; I couldn't bring myself to do anything other than skimread the dross) that all of the tragic anecdotes offered up by way of "evidence" that transfolk are truly the most oppressed demographic ever were sobbed out by trans identified men - not a biological female anywhere that I could see. Careful boys, your misogyny's showing. Maybe Lush does a concealer for it..

Kucinghitam · 30/04/2025 08:54

There's clearly no basement to the lows that The Right Side of History will stoop to.

Sadly I can't boycott them because I already have, initially because of the headache-inducing smell and subsequently for the naked staff stunt and the binders campaign.

Dustmylemonlies · 30/04/2025 08:57

I've always hated bloody Lush. Their stores absolutely stink and the staff obsessively stalk you whilst you are browsing. But this is a good reason to boycott....

Yeah, seconded! Well done @TinyRebel I hope you have given some other passing customers food for thought.

Most people I speak to irl don't pay enough attention to all this stuff. So when it hits them hard in the face (like Isla byrson and the pink leggings) or overhearing a calm mother trying to explain to a staff member why castration of young kids is not a good idea, it can cause a wtf moment. Maybe you peaked a few people! Sadly not the shop assistant though...

StellaAndCrow · 30/04/2025 09:17

Lush have been horrendous on women's rights for a long time.

I remember that awful "cruelty free kisses campaign" - making young female staff wear T-shirts and encourage customers to put lipstick kisses all over them -

Large groups of drunken men were passing through the city centre on their way to the local bars and were drawn in by our display. From then on, they donned lipstick and kissed the most inappropriate places they could find – our breasts, our buttocks and our crotches (the t-shirts were quite long).
https://mitheringsfrommorningside.wordpress.com/tag/lush-cruelty-free-kisses/

Their campaign have also included torturing a woman in the shop window (apparently to show that animal cruelty is bad?) and a nude campaign with all staff just wearing aprons. They have certainly treated some of their staff with no respect

FWS have a rundown of some of it here:

I noticed last week they had a big pro trans/anti equality act ruling display in the window of a store I pass regularly. It’s the final straw for shopping there for me. Last Christmas I discovered Treaclemoon (available in various places including Boots and Tesco) do a snow fairy dupe that’s pretty good anyway.
