Good god. Lush has launched a trans rights campaign along with the introduction of a gender affirming care policy to support its trans, non-binary and gender diverse staff.

Shame as I do quite like some of their offering. But I won’t be giving them any more money.

They are free to do so.

people who don’t support it are free to spend their money elsewhere.

depending on what they’re funding, I wonder if there’s a sex discrimination claim liability - for example if they fund hair removal for TW but not women?

Well, the nhs itself does that for tw but not hirsute plain old regular women and no one has claimed SD for that yet.

A Lush bathbomb turned DD purple
When I contacted them they said it had never happened before but a quick Goggle suggested they are liars
The smell is over powering and the staff are mostly annoying so I don't tend to go in

I used to spend money when they were Cosmetics-2-Go. Everything was done by mail and I looked forward to receiving their new newspaper/catalogue. I made my Christmas angel with net from their packaging. In short we went way back. I've not spent a penny there for years.

Me too, loved Cosmetics to Go, Sympathy for the Skin was a favourite. They also did the only thing that worked for Cradle Cap.
Haven’t spent money in Lush for years now though and don’t intend to start.

I stopped buying anything from Lush ages ago when they were offering chest binders to girls. They’ve been captured by this rubbish for years now.

Yes, very depressing that young girls are figuring out early that it's easier to be male. Many of them autistic and very uncomfortable with the changes in their body as well IME.
I've never shopped in Lush, I can't even go near a shop due to the vile smell.

Yes, there is a high percentage of autism in boys and girls deciding they are trans.

Bluegreencat · 25/04/2025 23:13

I was also another Cosmetics to go fan. Lush has gone odd and also very expensive.

Good for Lush, a lot of people spend up to £100k on medical procedures hopefully Lush offers that to all employees, I'm sure they won't see an influx of people wanting a job for those freebies, and I'm sure they won't run out of money funding it all.

Imagine if they had to start discriminating against trans applicants to avoid going bust. Awkward!

sadmillenial · 26/04/2025 01:32

Global company doesn't actually pledge any money/time/anything to actually help anyone transition, but just says they will help if this is the case for an existing employee
Cue uproar because an employer meets legal requirements for leave, anti-discrimination laws and added an extra bit of basic fucking humanity

NCThisOne · 26/04/2025 01:42

I can't stand Lush as their products are ridiculously expensive for what isn't natural products. Hype.

YourOnMute · 26/04/2025 03:58

Used to love Lush but have up on them years ago when staff were involved in a naked pr campaign which entailed handing out samples while wearing an apron and nothing else. Then they had a campaign where staff gave out kisses.
Mostly young female staff involved in both.

I once went into a Lush to see what the fuss was about, and nearly passed out with all the smells. My husband of the time had to physically help me out of the store to a nearby bench as my legs gave way.

I just don't get what the attraction of all those heavily scented products is. Even one at a distance makes me gag.

Me too. You can smell a Lush shop way down the street. The smell is over-powering if you actually go into the shop, which I had to once to buy something that a friend abroad asked me to get for her. I couldn't wait to get out of the place.

CatFeeder · 26/04/2025 06:55

Most of the comments on this thread are from people who don’t like the smell of Lush shops. Not sure how that’s relevant.
Others saying their products aren’t natural - very easy to debunk if you do even a wafer-thin element of research into their sourcing.
They’re a business led by their values. Those values may not align with yours, but I admire them hugely for their integrity.

EweSurname · 26/04/2025 07:10

You might admire a company whose values include sending teenage girls binders without parent/medical supervision but I think that’s abhorrent and unsafe, and not a sign of acting with integrity.

And how do their values align with Saudi values?

You’re being duped by capitalists.

We are addicted to snow fairy shower gel here. The bubble gum smelling one. Does anyone know of any dupes? To ease our boycott.

But why do you care? It's not affecting you, is it? And it may actually help some people.

PonyPatter44 · 26/04/2025 09:03

I loved CTG and I spent a LOT of money on lush over the years. The police campaign made me angry and the secret breast binder campaign ended me. I don't buy Lush any more.

Lidl has introduced one. Winter queen or something like that and it’s a bargain.

Flinderskleepers · 26/04/2025 10:35

I haven't bought anything from lush for years as I the last few times I went in (probably getting on for 7-8 years ago now) I was continuously hassled by the staff as soon as I stepped foot in the store. Leave me the fuck alone, I'm just browsing!

Bluebootsgreenboots · 26/04/2025 10:40

Out of interest, are there any details as to what this support entails? Is it paid leave for surgery? Paying for treatment? Access to qualified counsellors? Or a high five when you announce that you’ve realised that you’ve been born in the wrong body?

The only details in the press release about the "Gender Affirming Care policy" Lush is rolling out concurrently with its campaign are as follows :
"The policy outlines the support available to Lush employees at any stage in their transition journey and provides a range of useful tools and support, as well as dedicated transitioning leave to ensure that trans employees have the time and support they need to access gender-affirming care."
