Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Anyone else dreading the demands from the staff LGBTQIABC groups tomorrow?

I am soooo dreading going in tomorrow and having to discuss this. I know there will be pressure for the CEO to make a statement of solidarity with trans and NB staff (although what to say to the enbies I have no clue - you didn't exist in law before this and you still don't? Mozeltoff!).

I am going to have to say why I think this is a bad idea, and likely out myself as a gender critical hag.

Happy to hear how others are planning to tackle.

A

Every big meeting we have there's always someone of the alphabet whinging about discrimination and how hard done by they are. Our next monthly meeting isn't for a couple of weeks but I strongly suspect that the "ask the SLT" will be hijacked.

Keep it factual, and say as a result of the clarification, single sex spaces must be based on biological sex but gender neutral facilities are available (I presume this can be done). Say the company can't be at risk of breaking the law or lawsuits. Keep it brief and stick to facts. Good luck.

I’m lucky enough not to be in an organisation where this is going to be an issue but surely - you just abide by the ruling, blame the SC and crack on?

Has anybody's workplace been completely silent on this? My employer usually sends out comms pieces quickly whenever there's something that will affect us, but so far... silence

cornishatheart · 22/04/2025 14:48

A Downing Street spokesman gave a very definitive statement a few minutes ago, it's on the bbc website as a headline - Starmer does not believe trans women are women, No 10 says.

Complete absence of comment at my uk wide comms meeting. Dei was mentioned, as was pride month. We even had a gen Z stand up and talk about cross generations understanding in the workplace (not kidding, and it was actually fine ngl). No mention of the thing tho. For which I am thankful

Mine has been completely silent. Not so much a couple of my colleagues who are full TRA on LinkedIn Hmm

As a side note, when did LinkedIn become so political/virtue signally? It used to be just “Hey I’ve got a new job” and sharing stuff relevant to your industry.

Nothing here either, but could just be people revving up after Easter break

Our LGBTQ etc group have said that trans women can still use the women’s facilities
i don’t think my office has any trans women
I’m watching with interest

Mellownellow · 23/04/2025 22:29

We have had the intranet and newsletter "we know you need support in this time of need" notices with lots of links to counselling. Nothing about supporting women as a pp predicted.

Interestingly on the chats I saw a trans woman say ‘I’m not comfortable I using the mixed gender space’ now those spaces are totally contained loo, sink, hand drier. Why not?

I work in a HEI and colleagues I follow on some social media have been posting their sorrow at the judgement etc. none of them know I’m GC. Though my silence on it, along with my failure to put pronouns in my e mails is probably a give away.

I am slightly nervous that some of the staff in my department will propose some big performative gesture in support of trans students. They treat the students like babies as it is! I think I will keep well out of it and if asked say, the ruling is clear and there are a range of views on this. As suggested up thread.

Are you able to collect the evidence and write to EHRC about this?

Well, where’s the validation in that?!

And this it begins. There is a gathering today. Nothing has been asked of me as yet. I suspect it will become obvious I am terven. Thanks to all the courageous women that doesn't hold the fear it once did.

Did it go okay?
