Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Anyone else dreading the demands from the staff LGBTQIABC groups tomorrow?

I am soooo dreading going in tomorrow and having to discuss this. I know there will be pressure for the CEO to make a statement of solidarity with trans and NB staff (although what to say to the enbies I have no clue - you didn't exist in law before this and you still don't? Mozeltoff!).

I am going to have to say why I think this is a bad idea, and likely out myself as a gender critical hag.

Happy to hear how others are planning to tackle.

Yes, it's the women's staff network that is inevitably going to piss me off. It's appropriate that this is happening at Easter because a GC commenter (on an online group we're all in) would be crucified...

We have all staff workplace training this week. In keeping with the LGBTQIA++ aesthetic, the last one looked like an explosion in a low-grade jumble sale with matching blue, green and pink hair on the youngers. I am all eager anticipation for an impromptu announcement of angst from their spokesthem.

GreenUp · 21/04/2025 18:49

Get in there first and decorate the office with Suffragette bunting. 😆

Taytoface · 21/04/2025 19:00

I haven't had a sniff of a potential ally. Even the gay women seem to be very gendery.

I think just pointing out the legal risk of saying anything on this. Similar to Israel and Palestine. Saying anything sympathetic would be welcomed by some but could be interpreted as creating a hostile workplace for others. Best to keep schtum and remind people that there are a range of views on this and the law is very clear that GC views are valid, and within the law. (As opposed to a male doctor saying he is biologically female which is batshit and not in line with the law).

I'm fortunately safely beyond workplace politics like this, but I'd like to think that sensible GC women like you will feel strengthened by the fact that the highest court in the land totally agrees with you.
And the reason they agree with you is because they, like you, know common sense when they see it.
As legal people, they affirmed the importance of language being straightforward and stable in meaning. That's the exact opposite of what the variously-hued 'networks' have been doing for years.
Sex means biological sex. It does now, it always did, and anyone who said otherwise was just plain wrong. Mistaken. Incorrect.

Outside, you can remain business-like and restrained; inside you can be totally immature, going ha ha ha ha, loserrrrrzzz, wiggling your outstretched fingers beside your head, and sticking your tongue out at them. 😆

Alternatively, you could bring a drink and a cigar to the meeting 😎

Wishing all the workplace warriors well tomorrow!✊

”You didn't exist in law before this and you still don't? Mozeltoff!).”

My quote of the day!

Sex matters have published some advice on this, including advising companies not to "make statements that the organisation disagrees with the Equality Act or the Supreme Court judgment, or that favour or prioritise particular groups".

I'm also fully expecting to find a front page intranet article supporting our LGBTQIA+ colleagues - with not a mention of women or the protections this gives to lesbians and trans men - so am trying to get my thoughts organised in advance.

Sex matters: putting the Supreme Court ruling into practice - Sex Matters

Take it from a lesbian, gay women are the ones baying for blood & dying to please the men the most. I do not recognise the lesbian community!

I wonder whether it is helpful to encourage people to focus on what was actually IN the judgment, rather than the media hype around it. I keep being surprised that so many people are ardently agin it without having actually read it. I know I'm a nerd but seriously it's a fairly easy read.

Thank you for this. I'm in a civil service department and we've already had some pandering messages from a specific staff network sent out to the entire agency. Mild enough that they've probably just erred on the side of avoiding conflict with actual women, but I doubt he's done) because of course the sender is a middle aged white biological man in a managerial role and pronouns in his name on Teams and email...).

I'll stick this in my armoury for anything that pisses me off.

AlexandraLeaving · 21/04/2025 19:40

But yes, as others have said, good luck to all those who are expecting an onslaught of this tomorrow. I'm lucky that my work 'colleagues' are a bunch of youngsters who will be more interested in how many easter eggs I got and what I think about Eastenders.

Kindersurprising · 21/04/2025 19:41

Yes. We have a transwomen equality head as well. What now?

Young people still watch Eastenders??

It surprised me too. And may not be widespread.

It will be interesting to see what our NB member of staff wears tomorrow.

Very helpful thank you. I have been unhappy with the NHS use of the pride flag on official documents for some time and am planning on raising this. Firstly I'm going to ask them to review their staff changing room guidance as it's not legally compliant.

Felinnefine · 21/04/2025 20:40

Wear an eg. Enamel Suffragette badge.

Anyone GC would notice it and you’d immediately have people you can now openly discuss this with- and if hassled by others, quote the SC ruling.

You can tell them they have to represent the law.

storminabuttercup · 21/04/2025 20:45

Our women’s network became more ‘inclusive’ years ago and we see more trans stuff on there than ever this last few years I mainly ignore it now it’s clearly not aimed at me any more

union stances interest me as I saw a fair few flags at these protests this weekend, I’m a staunch Union supporter and never had any reason to doubt mine (never seen any posts about twaw for example) but if they start any nonsense I’ll be voting with my feet

Felinnefine · 21/04/2025 20:45

transwomen equality head

🙈🙈 he’ll be fighting tooth and fake nails to keep his job.. won’t have much to do surely.

I love point 20. That's going to put some noses out of joint.

BezMills · 21/04/2025 20:55

We have our monthlyish UK all hands tomorrow, but I don't expect it to be mentioned. There is a bit of he/himming in the email sigs, mainly grads/youngers but the occasional surprising senior ish type. We are quite earnest about DEI generally, which I am all in favour of, genuinely. I am in multinational big tech and the main topics are sexism and cultural sensitivity rather than gender expression.

SidewaysOtter · 21/04/2025 21:10

I’ve already checked all the work “socials”, email, intranet etc and nothing. Thankfully.
