Maggie Chapman has publicly accused the Supreme Court of transphobia. Any lawyers know if this is contempt of court?

This should surely go to the wider Parliament. Its bollocks and it undermines public faith in the government.

woollyhatter · 29/04/2025 10:14

FFS

Datun · 29/04/2025 10:15

Well she can't help herself, she will just keep banging on like this.

Do they get another crack of the whip down the line, if she continues to say the same sort of shit?

Datun · 29/04/2025 10:13

They've suspended the meeting for something, I'm not sure what. To beat each other up behind the bike sheds so they vote correctly?

Proably this:

  1. Decision on taking business in private: The Committee will decide whether to take items 4 and 5 in private.

Well we will hear more of this from Tories, Labour and Reform.

Be a useful way to attack the SNP and the Greens.

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2025 10:15

So the committee has voted to not fire itself. Great stuff.

If you don't think this is a good decision and would like to see the Scot Parl debate it further, do write to your representatives to say so.

So that's it? She's to remain?

If she says anything that dumb again they can vote again.

So Chapman needs to be careful.

If she hangs out with more antiwoman people in public - attacking the legal system threatening violence. So she may need to change her lifestyle.

Right, so it's clipped her wings, at least.

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2025 10:21

We're back in the room.

Taking 4 and 5 in private. Vote. (5 is re FWS judgement)

RedToothBrush · 29/04/2025 10:22

fromorbit · 29/04/2025 10:13

The SNP backed her - motion lost.

Trump style politics wining again sadly.

The SNP are probably terrified at the prospect of their MSPs having a vote on whether Maggie Chapman is batshit and whether their own MSP also understand the rule of law.

It won't happen because they know how embarassing such a vote will be for them...

... they want to avoid sunlight.

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2025 10:22

Taking it in private.

So transparent. Much faith.

Yep. Also Labour are not keen for everyone to bring up their woeful history on the subject - whipping the GRR bill vote, etc.

Glamourreader · 29/04/2025 10:23

So she can not declare a conflict of interest, rant about and undermine the supreme court, refuse to apologise and that's OK?

What standard of acceptable behaviour are they trying to set here?

I've no confidence in them I'm afraid

This sounds like a great book to have.

How long before Maggie Chapman does another Maggie Chapman and opens her gob and says something utterly dumb?

10 - 1 Later today
5 - 1 Within the next month
100 - 1 She manages not to goof up until the next election.

Place your bets here please!

Agreed. While everyone else really wants to see that debate.

Who doesn't want to see hours devoted to arguing whether Chapman is merely a clown, completely crazy, or a calculated psycho.

And thats why Trump and Reform are doing so well.

Lack of trust in politicians is a growing theme I've heard directly for over ten years now. Its only getting worse.

IHeartHalloumi · 29/04/2025 10:41

The Scottish Parliament are becoming more and more of a joke. For all people complain about first past the post and Westminster being a 2 party system, it still seems better than the list system and Scotland's one party (second rate) state

Am I right it was 4-3 and Maggie got to vote. So she essentially had the deciding vote on whether to save herself.

I think this is right - I think mainstream parties are throwing votes away rather than the extreme right winning them. Completely bonkers that Trump and Farage can appear MORE trustworthy than their opponents - but I hear my MIL's generation say exactly that - and they are more likely to vote than the blue haired radicals. When I challenged MIL about something Reform related, she said she didn't agree with them on that, but she thought they wanted to do the best "for the country" 🤷🏼‍♀️.

If I were a Scottish National I'd be furious with the SNP for allowing people like MC to make the lists at all.

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2025 12:06

Well, the Tories are the only ones who've come out of this affair looking like grown ups.

The SNP and Labour have been woefully weak. SNP are complicit with the Green's batshittery, and Labour don't seem to have the conviction to pull them up on it - I can't really work out why.

It's almost like Labour don't want to win Scottish election next year. It should be a slam dunk - the SNP have really make an absolute arse of things.

And the Libdems continue to work furiously towards oblivion. Which is a great shame. They could at least have offered a corrective - instead they've belched out utterly vapid nonsense without pause, since ACH graciously 'did it all for Beth'.
