The original thread has been deleted for “breaking Mumsnet guidelines”. Not sure why but possibly “misgendering” or possibly making it too easy to find the crowdfund @mumsnet it would be good if you could let us know so this thread can stay up. Do we have to pretend that the Claimant is female?

He appears to be saying that having huge male muscly arms is a disadvantage because they have to move them about which is hard. How can he claim any professional competence?

What exactly are the qualifications of this footballer and self-confessed geolist to give 'expert' evidence in this matter?

CriticalCondition · 10/04/2025 11:39

BH trying to say longer arms might be a disadvantage now.

Snowypeaks · 10/04/2025 11:40

BH's basically arguing that men are disadvantaged at pool compared to women!
Whether BH realises it or not.

I find all this arguing about whether or not men have sufficiently weakened themselves in order to compete in the female category is offensive. Why should weakened men be considered to be acceptable competition for elite females?

it's incredibly stupid and offensive.

eg the women's world record for the 100m dash is 10.49 seconds.

the men's record is 9.58.

but then the men's masters records for older men get progressively slower.

eg for men over 40 years old the record is 9.93.

for men over 45 years old the record is 10.72.

so should men aged 45+ be allowed in women's races, no questions asked?

<Visions of poor exhausted-yet-buff menfolk barely able to drag themselves around the place due to their dreadfully heavy bones>

Just what the actual fuck are these people on?

I remember that scene in Conan. Poor Arnie could barely move...

Kucinghitam · 10/04/2025 11:43

Won't somebody think of the poor menz and their exhausted heavy-boned over-muscled long dangly arms? 🤪

BH trying to say longer arms might be a disadvantage now.

And that the need to use a rest is a big bonus because they can develop 'technique'.

Snowypeaks · 10/04/2025 11:45

And there are no facts, just opinions or points of view. Apparently.

CriticalCondition · 10/04/2025 11:46

BH now drawing on thems own experience playing pool. Counsel points out that the witness has been called to give expert evidence as a scientist not their personal experience.

CriticalCondition · 10/04/2025 11:49

BH now saying longer fingers are a disadvantage. Difficult to play subtle shots because of the angles 'and all that sort of stuff'.

thirdfiddle · 10/04/2025 11:49

Catching up on this morning's happenings. Judge unimpressed by BH's patronising cake analogy. 'Leaving cake out of it' then paraphrases what BH said in much clearer terms. This judge appears to have some scientific knowledge. They (he/she?) also appeared to know something about Elo chess ratings and gaussian distributions yesterday. Bodes well for following the dubiousness of BH's research protocols I think.

Snowypeaks · 10/04/2025 11:51

Deleted.

tigertactics · 10/04/2025 11:54

How did RW think this guy was going to help? Their entire case seems to rest on male entitlement and what they think should be true.

CriticalCondition · 10/04/2025 11:55

BH- length of fingers, blah, blah, if that makes sense
Counsel - no it doesn't. <Moves on>

thirdfiddle · 10/04/2025 11:55

SC 'so only one cyclist' 😂😂
Is EH going to appear? She'll make mincemeat of this clown and the judge appears to have the competence to recognise this.

the one cyclist is dear old Emily Bridges, is that right?

thirdfiddle · 10/04/2025 11:57

Believe so.

Cailleach1 · 10/04/2025 11:58

Grip strength will be another area where men suffer from a disadvantage. Along with height, bigger muscles on their larger skeleton, long reach and longer fingers, absolute strength from their upper body, not needing to use mechanical aids. I presume more stable hips and a male puberty will be the final nail in the coffin.

Why is a geologist appearing as the expert scientific witness on human bodies?

On strength and speed BH has just said 'I'm a geologist, not a physicist. So I won't go into all that stuff, it's not my line.'

Gosh.

away from the witness stand, they'd probably find that accusation flattering, that they've become a silly girly girl.

I googled Blair.

Per Manchester Met: "Dr Hamilton is at the forefront of research exploring the impact of gender-affirmative endocrine care on the athletic performance of transgender athletes."

Per Uni of Brighton: "Introducing Blair Hamilton, a trailblazer in the world of sports research at the University of Brighton's School of Sport and Health Sciences."

Presumably there aren't too many people researching this stuff (who would be acceptable to RMW)?

It's a very odd bio for a university researcher on an official university website. The exclamation marks!
