The Bluestocking - where women are women, and small furry animals are gerbils, quokkas, capybaras, or a red panda called Rosy

Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

I love the pictures! It looks such a warm and wonderful place with beautiful clientele.
id very much like to book a room if that’s ok? It will,be the cozy one at the end with paneling and a crackling log fire with a kettle nestled in the logs, and a toasting fork laden with muffins and butter.
oh and lots of old books about adventures. And maybe a wardrobe with fur coats in it. And gerbils keen to explore. Sigh.

You're very welcome, come on in!
When you said 'book a room' do you mean a room to stay in? Because we have those too, and they all come fully equipped with whatever you want, so log fire, toasting forks, kettle, wood panelling - no problem at allSmile
No furs though - bit of a sore subject with the staff who are small furry animals..

If you just want to enjoy the pub, you don't even have to share the fire, kettle, muffins, books etc . If you don't feel sociable, that's fine, magically the Bluestocking can provide individual log fires and bookshelves for everyone.

Then when you feel like company, amble over to the bar for some conversation.
The current theme seems to be Spring and the flowers we've seen and the birds we've heard, but anything goes😄

The highly-trained, nattily-attired gerbil waiting staff will bring you whatever food and drink you want - remember that all food and drink here has nothing troublesome like gluten or calories or alcohol, but you'd never know, so tuck in!

I'm signing off for tonight, but I'm sure there'll be other Stockingers around later. Nice to meet you AmericanlawSmileSmile

Night all, may the Dream Gerbils bring you sweet ones🌛

Well, there are fur coats but they are all happily still inhabited!

MarchWindsAnd · 01/04/2025 23:43

@ErrolTheDragon , sorry to read about your DH’s uvetitis, and hope you come to enjoy being at home more than you had planned.

I stated an American lawyer but the first attempt gave you a barrister's wig. Then I thought you might enjoy the whimsy of the archaic attire of the English criminal court so I have posted both images.

It's always lovely to welcome new patrons to the Bluestocking women's pub. The gerbils may do a bit of snuffling around but it's just curiosity and working out where best they night snuggle up to you.

It's DH's birthday so we have been tourists in our own location where there has also been day drinking. In more than one hostelry.

Frankly I forgot I wasn't at the Bluestocking so I have ended up a bit pissed. On a Tuesday. We've had a brilliant day though.

We have actually been in the same pub so ignore the white line.

Belated happy birthday to MrWalrus.
must be quite nice to be a walrus, no stigma to being long in the tooth and wrinkly.Grin

Theres a great photo of a walrus hanging out and chilling on Wikipedia (if the mn image filters aren’t confused by it)

I love the pictures of my relatives...thank you! We probably need hats and decent jumpers whilst on the cliffs in this breezy weather. At least it's not sou' westers and yellow waterproofs weather!

Hello @Americanlaw . Thank you for dropping in to the Bluestocking. Pull up a hot chocolate and make yourself at home!

Love to all those having RL stuff going on. May the warmth of the Bluestocking seep out of the Internet and sustain you.

MarieDeGournay · 02/04/2025 10:56

Mixed fortunes for Bluestocking DHs - sorry to hear about your DH's eye trouble, Errol, and your enforced change of plans, hope that works out OK for you.

Belated birthday greetings to Mr Walrus, Myrtle and may I say what a handsome couple you make in those pictures, bathed in golden light, looking poised and elegant... so I guess those are the first two drinks in front of you, before the poise and elegance took a bit of a shellackingGrin

If Americanlaw is actually American [just as I actually am a 16-17th century French feminist philosopher presenting as a punk angel with black wings..🙃] conversation may be a bit disjoined due to the time difference. You may have to do the night shift, and only have real-time conversations with insomniacs and other Stockingers from matching time-zones.

But we're here for you albeit asynchronously Americanlaw .

🎶Gonna be some sweet sounds, coming down on the nightshift🎶

We’ve been out watching a one man show about Sir Walter Raleigh, sky walking back to the car was very clear with that thin moon.

Doing stuff indoors when the sun is shining is irksome - I was feeling it a bit today because this was supposed to be the first day of my retirement. Long story short, I was all set to hand in my notice at the end of February, had told my management I intended to - but then at the end of the previous week DH started with what was initially thought to be an eye infection but turned out to be uveitis which can be pretty serious. Full diagnosis of the cause and therefore ongoing treatment takes time and so scuppered our travel plans, makes insurance impossible and there’s a possibility of flare ups. So seemed more sensible to carry on working for now - it’s part time, from home and stops my brain rotting. Heigh ho.

I love the image of you and your husband walking along in the sky with the moon and stars above you. So sorry about the uveitis scuppering your plans. I hope it settles down and you can retire happily later on this year!

Beautiful picture, then I noticed all the furs ... I think they are special furs made out of Recycled plastic bags aren't they?

..either that, or those gerbils are suddenly going to think - mmmm this material is sooooo soft and cuddly it reminds me of... of.... MUMEEEEEEEEE!😨

Poor capybara! Naughty pelican.

MarieDeGournay · 02/04/2025 12:57

That's so funny! some of the capybaras seem to think it's a kind of back massage - oooh yes lovely, just down a bit to the right... but they mostly just look, as you say Deano, mildly irritated.

I've seen pelicans in real life but never that close-up and never so persistent, and I think they're quite scary when they come at you with those beaks😨so
I admire the capybaras' sang-froid!

Like being given an unwanted massage by gigantic blunt scissors ... I admire the capybara and their non-violent response to those pecking pests!

Here you all are! I am such a numpty I hadn’t realised we had a new fred. I’ve been sitting in the dark, pining for a Tunnock’s teacake.

What have I missed?

Oh sorry Woley, what a sad image of you sitting in the old Bluestocking, cobwebs forming between you and the comfy chair beside what used to be a roaring log fire but had turned into a pile of cold cold ashes..😢

So glad you're back with us! I couldn't do a proper summary, but I think it's fair to say that unlike other threads which featured lots of AI-generated chimeras and phantasmagoria, Stockingers seem to be captivated at the moment by the arrival of Spring, and there have been lots of reports about flowers and birds and poems about Spring and that kind of thing.
Some Real Life, sadly, but a lot of lovely Spring stuffSmile

then there's the pelican problem

TW capybaras are mildly irritated in this video

Blimey. We recently did some comfort viewing of some of The Durrells series, Gerry’s pelicans were presumably well enough fed not to scoop up his other many and various creatures.

So I asked the AI to imagine some of the regulars out for a spring walk, &... oh dear. Time for a new AI? This one seems to be broken.

And btw, I will be absenting myself when it's time to take Spartacus's new girlfriend to the vet.

Another beautiful spring day, we’ve been up to the country park (wooded hill) - so much birdsong and 3 roe deer bounding gracefully through. The upside of not being able to travel outside the U.K. right now is that where on earth is lovelier than spring here? And we’re massively fortunate that we’ve lots of nice places in range for a couple of hours walk, even more day trip range and a huge variety within a couple of hours drive for weekend trips - Peak District last weekend, just into Scotland this one coming - we’ve decided to spend some of the travel budget on nice hotels for this purpose.
And to hell with the housework but not sure when I’ll get enough gardening done.

Magpiecomplex · 02/04/2025 17:47

I spent most of the day in a sports hall, so not much opportunity to observe flora or fauna. It's another beautiful day though!

FuzzyPuffling · 02/04/2025 17:49

Errol, I do agree. I love Spring.
Some friends of ours have just gone to Spain for the next few weeks. Why miss the best season of the year here?

Bannedontherun · 02/04/2025 17:51

Back on my gardening job where life is beautiful, looking at first spring plants and listening to the buzz of bees and the chirping of birds.

MyrtleLion · 02/04/2025 17:52

I have emerged!

It was a lot of day drinking yesterday. I fell asleep in front of a cosy crime episode only to wake up as the next episode started. I was alert for less than five minutes and woke again as the second episode ended.

The walrus then fell asleep and was snoring in front of the TV. However he has very excitedly rewired the internet today so we are all connected by ethernet cable rather than WiFi.

It made him very happy.

I did an hour booknooking and then some AI testing which was very frustrating but I got there in the end. As the walrus is off all week we are venturing out to some nature spots nearby tomorrow. I had planned to do some interview prep for Friday, but I realised I was fully prepared for the previous role so I've already done it.
