And there will be tension. Liberal Voice for Women have a stall, but there are several motions proposed that push gender ideology, including one to promote self ID. How very 2018.

Liberal voice for women are admirable in their approach and determination. It's a long tough slog, but they keep on going 👏

Shortshriftandlethal · 22/03/2025 09:14

The Lib Dems are a lost cause.......they really are a strange bunch. I came to realise that over the last few years. They have neither the heart of Labour nor the pragmatism of Tories. They seem to exist in a quite detached, liminal space - quite far removed from reality and human feeling. A bit cyborg'y.....Layla Moran, for example......a sort of startled look in the eyes.

They are brave, some of the most unhinged TRAs are Lib Dems.

Igmum · 22/03/2025 18:16

Well done LVW. I love the way the LibDem LGBTQ+++ spokesperson said the survey questions were no good, that (even if they were any good) transphobia was rising and that, finally, LibDems have progressive feminist, inclusive, democratic ideals (presumably therefore they can ignore the survey - which democratically shows the views of their members - and instead take orders from the most marginalised men in dresses). Do these people not hear themselves?

JazzyJelly · 22/03/2025 19:12

If the Lib Dems want to continue to be utterly unelectable, that's on them!

Brave of the women standing up to the madness, but some people won't be helped.

CrazyOldMe · 22/03/2025 19:14

Is Amy Challenor still a member?

DuesToTheDirt · 22/03/2025 20:24

I do like the way they've stuck the Ed Davey "a woman can have a penis" video in the middle of the Daily Mail article!

I vaguely recall he moved to the US to form a throuple and work at Reddit but I may have that wrong.

Alas, they have passed a policy.

The policy supports self ID and fails to support the Cass Review. Also suggests removal of the spousal exit clause and proposes banning 'conversion therapy'.

At this point in time, it's an utterly bizarre stance to take.

I'd like to see how many votes there were. I saw a post somewhere (X possibly) with a speaker in favour and about 15 people in the room).

fromorbit · 23/03/2025 13:54

Zoe points out the passed motion includes:
- Self-ID
- Removal of spousal exit clause
- Fails to accept Cass
- Calls for ‘gender affirming care’ I.e puberty blockers, hormones, surgery 1/4

There is no age limit stipulated for these irreversible medical interventions. These policies are unpopular with the general public, with LibDems
voters and with the broader LibDems
membership as our polling shows.
A debate was allowed - clips will follow - some progress.

The contrast in the hall with the response on our stand and our fringe has been extraordinary. As I sat down after my speech one LGBT+ ally shouted ‘down with the terfs’ Nat_
was heckled during her speech and extraordinary claims were made by members of LGBT+ LDs
Having been saddled with poor policy since the 2015 motion called for puberty blockers for children this was our opportunity to put that right. Instead it’s like the Cass Review never happened. Will we be burdened with this policy for another 10 years? https://dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14516529/Lib-Dem-trans-row-easier-legally-change-gender-puberty-blocker-ban.html

Apparently the Lib Voice for women fringe event was very popular.

Remember folks if you are in a council area with elections don't forget to question any Lib dem candidates about this.

If the Lib Dems want to continue to be utterly unelectable, that's on them!

They got 72 seats at the GE last year, with 63 new wins.

The general public doesn't realise how batshit they are on gender ideology, because the MSM won't ever mention it. The "anyone but the Tories" voters who couldn't bring themselves to put their cross by the Labour candidate chose the Lib Dems instead.

SinnerBoy · 24/03/2025 10:41

I mean, quite apart from everything else they want, why on Earth do they want to force women to remain married to someone they no longer want to be married to? Are they getting advice from the Taliban?

withthegreatestrespect · 24/03/2025 10:55

From the policy document:
3.5 Equality Act ........The Liberal Democrats have long called on the government to publish clear and comprehensive guidance on the use of any single-sex and separate-sex exceptions under the Act, using worked examples and case studies from organisations providing these services. The aim of that guidance should be to ensure everyone who needs single-sex services – such as survivors of sexual violence or domestic abuse – can access them safely, and feels comfortable and secure. But we also have to ensure that nobody faces discrimination on the basis of being trans, as the Equality Act makes clear. To do that it is vital to provide clarity and certainty to service providers and the public.

Waffle and buck-passing. LibDems cannot square the circle. TW are either women or they are not. Which is it???

The EHRC has plenty of guidance, with worked examples, if not case studies.

If they want case studies, the growing number of ET decisions showing that women with 'gc' views are protected from discrimination should be illuminating, including the Lib Dems' own case with Natalie Bird.

'we also have to ensure that nobody faces discrimination on the basis of being trans, as the Equality Act makes clear.'

The SSEs spell out very clearly that one can discriminate on the basis of either sex and/or gender reassignment when there is a conflict of rights. There are plenty of examples of this in the EHRC guidance.

It's called a privileged middle class bubble with no contact and no wish to engage with anyone outside that bubble.

They don't understand why not everyone wants to be just like them.

Their values are the correct values.

It's really very depressing. And that's why they don't like dissent. "Why can't we all get on".

They are the managers and the educators. They are the civil service. They all have professional jobs and look like geography teachers.

withthegreatestrespect · 24/03/2025 12:29

Like the SNP and Greens, LibDems will do or say anything for the youth vote. They are begging Labour to make the grown up decisions so that they can then simultaneously breathe a sigh of relief that the decision is out of their hands and performatively berate Labour for making decisions
