Morning Star; a wake-up call for the trade union movement (Sandie Peggie case)

This article is a breath of fresh air; see how correctly sexing those involved in the case makes it so easy to understand?

If only all journalists would do the same.
(Morning Start have published numerous GC articles)

"Sandie Peggie’s claim against NHS Fife is for sexual harassment, belief discrimination and victimisation. A nurse with 30 years’ service, she objected to sharing a female changing room at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with a male doctor who identifies as a woman. Her employer’s policy meant her single-sex changing room was now mixed sex."

Please God let the unions wake up and support women. Hadn't realised RCN had refused to support Ms Peggie.

Thank you for this article. Clear and a damning exposé of the institutional misogyny in the trade union movement.

Arran2024 · 09/03/2025 13:07

Thank you. This is an excellent article. I'm going to share it on other threads, hope that's OK.

Fordian · 09/03/2025 15:55

Perhaps unkindly, but I did smile at the OUTRAGE about that article on trans Reddit!

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/03/2025 18:05

Great article. Clear, concise and straight to the point. Thanks @IDareSay.Thanks

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 10/03/2025 09:13

The communists and SDP are the only parties that have consistently defended women’s rights throughout these years of transgenderist madness.

The trades unions have been a complete disgrace.

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 10/03/2025 09:26

So many TRAs espouse ‘luxury communism’ (remember the photo of Jess Bailey and LOJ on the train ?) that it must be hard to read this excellent, full throated piece in this news source.

Abhannmor · 10/03/2025 09:33

Magdalen Berns' mother Deborah Lavin was general secretary of the Communist Party iirc? I suppose real communists tend to believe in biology and physics after all. I might subscribe to Morning Star - though I'm not a tankie at heart.

I noticed they were particularly annoyed at a left wing publication noticing the class power dynamic.

Heaven forfend that anyone* should try to take their victimhood off the privileged.

*especially anyone you can't really tar with the label "right-wing".

Yes. Outrageous.

BuntyBeaufort · 10/03/2025 12:44

Excuse my ignorance, but is the RCN supporting the Darlington nurses?

Nick Wallis comments on parallels of the indifference of Postmasters Union.

The ignorance and indifference of the Postmasters union was a significant factor in perpetuating the Post Office scandal. It is happening in plain sight with gender. Unite, Unison etc are being wilfully blind to the truth. It’s facile, moronic and unfair.

No.

Actually this is interesting:

'DNU has also written to Professor Nicola Ranger, the General Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), which is the biggest nursing trade union in the UK, asking for affiliation with RCN and for its support.'

October last year. I wonder if they got a response?

Darlington nurses launch first-of-its-kind trade union protecting women - Christian Concern

NHS nurses have launched the Darlington Nursing Union (DNU) after a hospital forced them to undress in front of a man who ‘identifies’ as a woman but openly says he is sexually active with his girlfriend. The story is front page news today.    NHS poli...

Gosh, the RCN is captured.

'This is an important decision, but it does not mean that trans people are not protected under the Equality Act 2010. The EAT pointed out that it does not mean those with gender critical views can misgender trans people with impunity and it does not mean that employers will not be able to provide a safe environment for trans people. It does, however, demonstrate the extremity of beliefs that will be excluded from amounting to a belief with reference to the Equality Act. '

Here's an interesting snippet from the RCN 'fair care for trans and non binary people':

'Children

Gender-variant children and young people should be accorded the same respect for their self-defined (or true) gender as trans and non-binary adults are, regardless of their internal or external sex characteristics, including genitals.

Where there is no segregation in respect of issues like accomodation, as is often the case with children, there may be no requirement to treat a young gender-variant person any differently from other children and young people.

Where segregation is needed, then this should be in accordance with the dress, preferred name/and or stated gender identity of the child or young person'

I am not remotely a reader of The Morning Star but that article is breathtaking in its clarity.

The RCN has its own deep-rooted issues: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/oct/10/bullying-misogyny-and-sexual-culture-at-royal-college-of-nursing-inquiry-finds

Apparently so much sexual activity went on at the annual congress that investigators were brought in and the RCN was compelled to hold it online instead.

Holy moly!

I'm just having a look at some of the people they're celebrating. Colourful, to say the least.

Teencentral · 11/03/2025 11:48

Very clear article, as an RCN member I don't know which union to go to, and I know with my colleagues that I am not alone with this )

Please God let the unions wake up and support women. Hadn't realised RCN had refused to support Ms Peggie.

I haven't read the article yet but I don't understand why - if somebody's union refuses to help that person because of their gender critical beliefs - the union can't be sued for discrimination on the grounds of protected belief.

You pay union subs on the basis that they will assist you in employment matters. I don't see how they can get away with refusing to help you because you hold a protected belief under the Equality Act.

Claimants need to start including their "refusnik" unions as defendants/respondents

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2025 12:21

If I was an RCN member, I'd be asking them if they'll affiliate with the Darlington Nursing Union, and if not, why not.
