The Supreme Court is about to tell us whether we are women

How many Judges sat to hear this court case.

As it is about a UK wide law it will have been more than one.

Maybe they cant agree.

Or the Labour Government is lobbying and asking not to imply change is needed to the wording of the EA as they have a pretty full agenda!

A joke of course, would never imply that the Government might so something underhand.

The day that the Govt can interfere with the judicial process is the day that democracy and the rule of law die.

I assumed they just always said that!

I read Lou Reed and was taken aback. Walk on the wild side, indeed.

Here he comes, he's all dressed in black
PR shoes and a big straw hat
He's never early, he's always late
First thing you learn is that you always gotta wait
I'm waiting for my man

I don't think Lord Reed will turn up in trainers and a big straw hat, but you never know😄

Three of the FWS SC judges were involved in the case listed for next week - and that was heard in July 2024 - so quite some time before the FWS case.

Well compared to other court cases for the legal profession that would be quick!

<cough> Scotland <cough>

anyolddinosaur · 13/03/2025 19:44

Who decides how judges are allocated to cases these days?

Democracy doesnt really exist and the law largely exists to protect property rights.

Snowypeaks · 13/03/2025 19:53

Just wondered, was it definitely supposed to be "imminent"? Or was that a hope?

Sweet Lord that is an image I wish I'd had last time he was kicking me around 🤣

MarjorieDanvers · 13/03/2025 20:33

Well let’s hope Lord Reed doesn’t shave his legs and says he’s now a she. …..

Wait, what? Did you just say that a Supreme Court judge has kicked you, or is this a joke I've misunderstood?

Metaphorically 😀 I had a shit case and he did not hesitate to let me know he thought so too.

Ah, you are a barrister and have interacted with him as part of your work.

I'm autistic, I took that literally, and wad horrified that he might be your ex-H or something.

BetsyM00 · 13/03/2025 23:49

I wonder if something serious is going on behind the scenes in response to the parties being given a chance to quickly object to things in the draft?

Where on earth did this come from? The parties to the case don't get to see or comment on any draft. That's just daft, the losing party would always object!

Further up this thread:

WeeBisom · 07/03/2025 10:00For those asking how she knows the decision is imminent, counsel involved in a case get a tip off that a judgment is about to come out. After that, they are sent a draft version of the judgment which is subject to an embargo, and they take a look at it to make sure there are no glaring errors which need to be corrected before it is handed down. They are under very strict rules not to say anything about what the judgment contains (if you leak a judgment before it is handed down you can get in trouble with the Bar regulator and it might possibly be a contempt), but they are allowed to indicate that the judgment is about to come out.

BetsyM00 · 14/03/2025 07:27

Yes, the parties will get the judgment a few days before it is made public (not sure about the interveners). But that's the actual judgment, not a draft version, and it's just nonsense to think anyone gets a say on its wording.

anyolddinosaur · 14/03/2025 09:36

Cant remember which case it was (Mermaids?) but a judgement was said to "imminent" for well over a month, I'm not holding my breath.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/03/2025 09:38

Just place - marking can see that this has been imminent for a few days now but still no outcome.

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/03/2025 13:44

I thought we were expecting it yesterday.

DontTellMeWhat2Do · 14/03/2025 14:28

I can't remember but who said/thought the result would be out in March?

I wonder where
The Judgement Is?

It's still showing as awaiting judgement. About half way down the page.

While looking at a link from another thread I see that Naomi Cunningham was involved in a case about whether tribunal delays made decisions unsafe https://www.outertemple.com/barrister/naomi-cunningham/

Of course this is a more complex and difficult case but ....
