Appears that they are non existent. How does anyone explain "Gays for Palestine?"

Virtue signalling idiots?

Wildflowers99 · 01/03/2025 20:14

Netanyahu called them ‘chickens for KFC’ and it’s hard to disagree.

Why left wingers are cheering them on to self govern is anyone’s guess.

CarmelaBrunella · 01/03/2025 20:17

I have absolutely no idea. Why would gay people support a regime that would not tolerate them and have them murdered?
Useful idiots.

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/03/2025 10:53

Because united in the fight against the colonialist cis-heteronormative Islamophobic ruling class. One struggle, one fight, trans rights are human rights. Black trans lives matter. (Other cliches are available.)

Also known as yippee, another excuse to shout and wave flags.

AcquadiP · 02/03/2025 10:54

Chickens for KFC?

Why would a chicken vote for KFC when it is known that KFC cruelly processes milions upon millions of them each year?

I think that’s the point.

Mumsntfan1 · 02/03/2025 11:09

Gays in Gaza don't have the basic right to have their heads attached to the rest of their bodies.

Exactly.

Because chickens aren't famed for their understanding. Perhaps they saw a nice picture of Colonel Sanders with a chicken and thought he was their kind of guy. They didn't bother to look at the next pictures of people tucking into their KFC buckets, and they didn't take any notice of the warnings about what KFC really does because they'd already decided they were in Tribe KFC.

Yes, I know, thougt the poster seemed uncertain of the analogy.

Here's a convoluted argument written by a gay Palestinian who happens to be safely living in the US.

Virtue signalling from a safe distance!

AlphabetBird · 02/03/2025 15:03

I think it’s a bizarre form of xenophobia or racism, not sure which ism actually. It comes from an assumption that all minorities (as perceived from a western stand point) will stick together and support each other, without even one grain of understanding of the beliefs and values held by others.

It’s also pretty safe for them to support these regimens that would throw them in prison, murder or torture, because they never have to live there.

I guess if I were being glib I’d remind them to check their privilege...

SidewaysOtter · 02/03/2025 15:06

So Dr Atshan’s argument seems to be “there are gay people in Palestine fighting for their rights and we stand with them”. Fair enough but would they also be fighting for gay rights in Israel, if Israel didn’t have them?

Extraordinary. That gays and women have equality in Israel must stress these people out. I saw film of a Gay Pride event in Tel Aviv not long ago. Those Gays for Palestine need to wake up.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 02/03/2025 16:14

In fact many gay Palestinians seek asylum in Israel, the only country in the Middle East where gays have rights.

They should take note of what happened to this Italian gay activist.

This!

dykedrama · 02/03/2025 16:32

I'm not involved nor have I ever engaged with the "Gays For Palestine" movement, but I can give my own answer as to why I, a lesbian, support Palestine.

Basically, I don't think people's right to a safe place to live is dependent on whether or not they support gay rights. I would love it if Palestine could move in a more tolerant direction, of course, but they need to be alive to do so. I don't think civilians deserve to be bombed, homophobic or not.

I admit, the argument that gay people shouldn't support Palestine because Palestinians don't support gay rights always annoys me; do people really have such minimal empathy as to assume that I'd throw innocent civilians under the bus and change my mind about their right to safety, food and healthcare just because they are part of a homophobic culture? I, and I imagine many others, are well aware of the lack of gay rights in Palestine already; it isn't a "gotcha" when that is already common knowledge, it just doesn't change my opinion on basic human rights.

But why (and this may not be you unless you are waving a “Gays for Palestine” flag) link your protest with your sexuality? What is the point of identifying oneself as a member of a particular group when protesting an unrelated cause?

I can understand “Jews for Palestine” given the perception that Jews and Palestinians are on alternate sides in this awful conflict, but “gays for Palestine” feels like an irrelevance or an attempt to seek attention.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 02/03/2025 16:38

I saw that on a C4 documentary, it was heartbreaking. Of course they had their identities concealed, but I thought they were brave to speak out.
