'A man who abused vulnerable women in an underground chamber at his Highland home has been given the first worldwide travel ban to be imposed by a Scottish court.
Kevin Booth, who is in his 60s, carried out "punishment beatings" using whips, canes and riding crops at his Lochdhu Lodge in Altnabreac, a small community in Caithness.
A court ruling said he had carried out "a systematic course of conduct of acts of human trafficking and exploitation" over many years.'

Can anyone tell me why this man is not in jail? Why is he free to live in his giant castle with the fucking dungeon in it but not allowed to go on holiday?

He's been convicted (twice) and served time in prison. The latest criminal trial collapsed so the police launched a civil action resulting in this travel ban.

And whilst I was reading that article on the BBC I found another piece of news today that Andrew Tate has been freed in Romania and flown back to the U.K. presumably without facing any convictions or consequences for his appalling treatment of women in a similar vein

No, he's flown to the US. If he flew to the UK he would be arrested as there are outstanding warrants against him here. The US has pressured the Romanian government to release him and his brother and the Romanians have finally capitulated with the proviso that he can be recalled at any time (which obviously they will just ignore).

I don't know what goes on in the Scottish criminal justice system but in England and Wales you could have charged him for this conduct and his previous convictions could have meant a life sentence in prison was available.

I am not familiar with how Scotland deals with cases like these.

He was charged. The case collapsed. The same could have happened in England (and does).

HollyBerryz · 27/02/2025 10:14

I didn't realise the police could bring civil cases. Interesting. Perhaps they should do it more often, as the level of burden of proof is different perhaps we could see more punishments rather than people getting off if a criminal conviction is likely to fail.

Google has been wiped but here's a 30 year old article describing how his 'racing tips' company operated.

We need to change the law so that "right to be forgotten" doesn't apply to sex offenders.

"It has been said that clients include one member of the Royal family and several members of Parliament."

I think we all know which Royal. And that explains why the criminal case collapsed.

Flown to the US, (both brothers) they are friends of Musk, Trump Junior and possibly the orange man himself.

Edited

What on earth do these rich men get from being friends with lowlife wannabes like the Tates?

The Press and Journal (Inverness, Highlands, and Islands)
12 Jan 2018

A college lecturer told a court of her concern about another driver on a lonely stretch of road in Caithness.
Emma Sime said that he repeatedly came so close to the rear of her car that she thought there would be a collision on the Westerdale to Halkirk unclassified single carriageway road on May 30.
The 34-year-old said that Kevin Booth, 57, flashed his lights and sounded his horn and she told Wick Sheriff Court: “I found it aggressive and intimidating.” Booth, a former millionaire racing tipster, denies careless driving and threatening or abusive conduct.
Solicitor William Mackay for Booth, whose address was given as Lochdhu Lodge, suggested to Miss Sime that the accused was simply letting her know that he was wanting to overtake her and accused her of being “inconsiderate”, which she denied.
The Crown has closed its case and Sheriff Andrew Berry will hear from the defence on February 6.

A lifetime of cosy relationships and ill motivated prosecution efforts possibly? They could nail him for far worse but don't. The inference of all that evidence is that there is systemic problem. Usually cases like these don't go forward owing to the lack of evidence.

The sentences given are pathetic.

illinivich · 27/02/2025 12:59

I think this is probably close to whats going on. He's obviously a danger, and the best thing to do is stopping him having access to more victims. This has probably given him more restrictions than he would have had otherwise given a long prison sentence wasnt certain.

Criminal law seems to think that public shaming of these men or the threat of short sharpe prison sentence is adequate punishment or enough to prevent anyone offending.

Edit: this was a reply to reds post on the previous page. I managed to lose the link.

thenightsky · 27/02/2025 16:01

My God. I'm amazed no one has died at his hands. Vile, evil creature. Those poor, poor women and girls. Sad

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 27/02/2025 16:13

On the radio it said he had got them to sign contracts saying they agreed to be beaten.

Presumably not in front of independent witnesses. Trapped in his torture chamber, you’d need a lot of courage to refuse to sign. I can’t see such a ‘contract’ standing up in court.

Justasmallgless · 27/02/2025 16:13

Many times victims can't face putting themselves through the ordeal or criminal court only for the perpetrator to either be found NG or receive a paltry punitive sentence.

Although they give a statement, they decide not to and from
What I've read on this case, it seems likely to be the case.
Although many videos showing the abuse unless a victim provides evidence he can say it's consensual.

Sexual Risk orders and other similar civil orders exist in England and wales .

Well done police Scotland on this one. Although it's on chief constable's name, it will be a team who don't want him to get away with it and this is next best thing

These contracts are illegal. The issue is the juries and social attitudes that think it's possible for a woman to sign them freely.

I don't blame the police. But let's face it, it's the prosecutors in Scotland who won't take it forward.

So this guy was a pimp of 16 year olds, servicing royals, then got a castle and tortured more underage girls and trafficked vulnerable women from abroad to do the same. And he gets out of jail free. Royal connections. Disgusting utterly disgusting. Justice and equality is an illusion in UK today.

CountFucula · 10/04/2025 10:46

Women’s hour on now is examining the case

Carezzamia · 10/04/2025 21:23

This is nuts. Honestly. How is this man allowed to be outside jail?!!! Because he is rich? Wtf justice system

I suspect he’s got some expensive lawyers, blokes do seem to get off with but she wanted it at the time defence, rough sex gone wrong. Etc It seems his later victims were all quite vulnerable too who’d be scared to speak up.

endofthelinefinally · 11/04/2025 09:02

If he was a single mother who hadn't paid her Tv licence he would be locked up.

dontcryformeargentina · 11/04/2025 11:15

100% well connected and got good lawyers.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/02/2025 17:13

The victims don't have to be involved to bring a criminal case. It is the police who take it to the CPS, and the CPS that decides whether to press charges - not the victims.

But if there is a lack of evidence of the victims don't want to be involved then the CPS will not proceed with a trial.

SomethingFun · 12/04/2025 08:17

So this guy is a child abuser, a pimp and a torturer of vulnerable women with video evidence of crimes but he can’t be convicted because the victims might not want to be put on the stand and they signed a ‘contract’. You can’t rationalise this shit. He’s got dirt on someone and even the police are disgusted enough to go for a civil case rather than drop it like they usually do for cases against women and children. He’s been a sick fuck but connected to people in high places for at least 30 years according to the article posted earlier - no justice if they’re rich and you’re poor.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/04/2025 09:09

Jc2001 · 12/04/2025 08:02

But if there is a lack of evidence of the victims don't want to be involved then the CPS will not proceed with a trial.

If there is a lack of other evidence, meaning that a conviction is unrealistic without victim testimony, they usually won't proceed if the victim doesn't want to be involved. But there does seem to be other evidence in this case.
