Kirstie Higgs v. Farmors School appeal

Amusingly, I only heard about this in the outrage on r/transgenderUK reddit 🤭. I must thank them for bringing this victory to my attention.

Basically it seems a school, based on one complaint re a FB comment by one employee, dismissed the employee for 'gross misconduct' for holding 'homophobic/transphobic' views. The Employment Tribunal found against her, but the appeal found in her favour, and appear to have told the school to cultivate a sense of proportion.

Worth a read.

Needs to be pinned somewhere for future use by people who need to push back.

Thank you OP. That's very useful.
So many women having to fight for basic rights that we once used to have 🙄

Is it @arabellascott who is keeping a thread on these cases not sure but it does need adding.

Excelling news, and the article in Schools Week is full of useful advice and information. Thanks for posting, Fordian.

I particularly liked this bit:

"As the court said “there are understandable reasons why in some cases an employee may not be willing to admit that [their] conduct was wrong, or seriously wrong, particularly if it was a manifestation of a deeply-held belief”."

I don't. It's basically saying that holding gender critical beliefs - ie having an actual grip on reality and a genuine concern for safeguarding - is wrong.

Try applying it to fake-bossomed Canadian teacher.

Cases like this are why I do not put my place of work anywhere on SM.

It's already on there, and there is an existing thread about this where I've linked all the earlier mumsnet threads.

The case is most notable for not one but 2 TRA judges having to recuse themselves from hearings.
