I shouldn't listen to Chappel Roan??

I haven't heard of her previous to this experience over the last few days.

I don't follow the Grammy or anything but happened to see her performance of Pink Pony Club on Facebook. I thought it was brilliant. The pageantry, her voice, makeup etc.

So I've listened to it on Spotify alot over the last few days.

I posted on FB saying it's been stuck in my head, love the song etc and a friend commented saying 'Surprised you like her considering she stands up for the LGBTQ+ Community and this song is about a gay bar for drag queens'

Yes, I am gender critical. No I don't dislike trans people, I just think everyone needs to stay in their own spaces. No I don't like drag queen's, I think they're offensive. HOWEVER this person knows full well that ad a female I've had FOUR lesbian partners and was engaged to a woman at one point.

So I'm hardly some anti rainbow phobic person!

And it's a song! Do you have to align your views completely with an artist to be able to listen to them?

I don't like strip clubs either bit it's just a bloody catchy song and the singer looks so cool!

I still love Morrissey!

ChappRo · 06/02/2025 18:46

What did Morrisey do?

I can't stand him, he's so whiney 😅

I still love Morrissey!

And me

Another Trans bashing thread.

HermioneWeasley · 06/02/2025 19:13

I am GC and I love Chappell. I don’t have to agree on every issue with every artist whose work I enjoy.

DevilWitch · 06/02/2025 19:14

I like this song too, also gender critical and I’m gay. I have no time for the rainbow community but still appreciate all things LGB and visit gay bars!

ChannelFiveDrama · 06/02/2025 19:19

She's fantastic and should have won the Grammy. I'm also GC.

Huh?

Where's the trans bashing?

She isn't trans?

I love Good Luck, Babe. It's a brilliant song.

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 06/02/2025 19:36

I’m GC and think the whole album is fantastic.

PatatiPatatras · 06/02/2025 19:39

Pink pony club 😍!

What did Morrisey do?

He's an unpleasant racist, a member of Britain First, tried to rob his band mates and lost, big time.

whirlyhead · 06/02/2025 19:43

I tried listening to chapel roan and was just… bored.

Sinkintotheswamp · 06/02/2025 19:43

CR is great.
I don't agree that people can change sex, or that anyone should be on puberty blockers hormones.
Doesn't mean I'm not going to sing my lungs out to Hot to go and annoy my teens.

I didn't even know that was her! I'm always singing that too.

Will have to check the full album out.

I like her music too. I don't at all agree with her views on many topics but her songs are cat

Brexiteer. Even though he hasn't lived here for decades.

Just love the Smiths and lots of his solo stuff too.

Ah well!

My littlest is into CR, I quite like some of her stuff.

Another Trans bashing thread.

Eden is that you?

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 06/02/2025 20:30

I'm 65, GC and really like Ms Roan. She's a little misguided in some matters but that's today's yoof for you. Still very talented.

Lovelyview · 06/02/2025 20:33

I don't think someone's beliefs should stop you listening to music you love - that would be weird. If an artist was actually convicted of a horrible crime it might be different - although having said that I do listen to Phil Spector's Christmas album every year and he was convicted of murder.

Lovelyview · 06/02/2025 20:35

Oh, and I love Morrisey's music too.

wildthingsinthenight · 06/02/2025 20:40

CR is brilliant.
Red Wine Supernova is my current fave song.
Also GC
Previously had long term gay relationship

IwantToRetire · 06/02/2025 20:45

Well its not unknown to like music made by someone whose politics you dont like.

Fancy confessing to this!

It was so much easier before social media. Who knew what any of these singers thought or said.

Just a few well placed stories in news papers and magazines could easily make you think your favourite singer must share your view of the world.

Glastonbury 2010: I love Snoop Dogg the artist – but despise him as a man

Many of his songs are appallingly sexist. So why is feminist Julie Bindel such a fan of Snoop Dogg's music – and what did she make of his set?

Good for you! We all like different things, which is great. I always disliked his music and voice, then I learned that he was a real hole and the more I learned...

I like UK Subs and Janis Joplin. My wife can't stand Janis, I agree that her voice isn't... the best, but she put her heart and soul into it. And Charlie Harper has a voice like a JCB on gravel.

user04 · 06/02/2025 21:04

Have you seen the interview programme with her? There is no way she genuinely aligns herself with the gay and/or trans communities. She is so just doing it to create a fan base. DS is gay and had a “wtf” expression on his face a few times as she was speaking. She “othered” gay people frequently and was really patronising
