Very quietly and with no fanfare...

Green Party disaffiliate from stonewall

I'm not not sure, I can't find third party confirmation of this happening, plus I found this which suggests Ali is acting out of malice? www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy4dyl2n1m8o

WarriorN · 03/02/2025 09:01

So apparently, it hasn't.

I haven't a clue what's going on

Chersfrozenface · 03/02/2025 09:13

Until regular posters who are members of the GP hear one way or the other, or it becomes obvious from the accounts, I suppose we won't know.

Cailleach1 · 03/02/2025 09:17

So they seem to be on board with an ideological belief that in many cases is used to deny the rights of, and damage same sex attracted people by ‘transing away the gay’. They seem to be fanatical celebrants of an ideological belief that is also deeply misogynistic and is being used to try to relegate women as second class citizens (with no right to object) to men cheating them out of their own sports and organisations. Even torpedoing women’s healthcare as language which promotes gender identity is promoted over their actual function as a service for women. Making women little more than background figures/also ran humans in breastfeeding organisations which were only designed to help women. They believe in crippling any intellectual or rational debate by censoring discussion and eliminating any dissenters. No respect for freedom of speech or expression.

Why are we pretending they have any equality or socially good real aims, functions or effects? They seem little more than rabid, regressive tyrants. You get the feeling they’d love a little gulag somewhere to lock up the heretics and blasphemers who don’t toe their ideology.

There seems to be a vacancy for the a party with environmental protection as their goal. The Green Party seems to now just mean ‘Green’ as in gullible.

Helleofabore · 02/02/2025 09:28

Considering some of the changes that Stonewall have been discovered making to their website and their definitions, is it because stonewall have now removed mentioning cross dressers and tweaked some of their other definitions? Have Stonewall, under a new executive, become too moderate for the Greens?

This was also my line of thought Helleofabore.

The activists in the Green Party won't be happy that the definition of transphobia has changed.

Hope I'm wrong and I'm being too cynical.

Just to clarify a few things:
👉 screenshot above obv not an official statement, which didn't happen, but from a past motion to conference
👉 disaffiliation effected last Spring 2024, upon expiry of GPEW subscription to Stonewall, which was not renewed by authority of a relevant party/parties (common tactic of orgs not to draw attention but just let it lapse)
👉 Some party members now very upset about this (think toys outwith prams/shooting messenger), because they weren't involved in decision-making or were kept in dark & very don't like it
👉 In reality this is a popular decision by all right-thinking Greens & voters. A straw poll at conference workshop 2022 revealed a narrow majority in favour of disaffiliation, despite all the intimidation & misrepresentations of woke mob 👇

So it lapsed ( training for staff) but doesn't mean policy has changed

Well, I don’t think Ali is acting out of ‘malice’. The malicious thing that happened was that fanatics/ideological fundamentalists in the Greens illegally discriminate against people. Thankfully Ali got justice and they were fined for their discriminatory practices.

Sheer resilience and the idea of hope really springing eternal is my first thought as Ali refers to all “all right-thinking Greens & voters”. Can we get the google address for that single family residence?

Having given (wasted) a vote or two in the past on the Greens, I resent having voted for a regressive, homophobic, misogynistic shower of fundies.

Cailleach1 · 03/02/2025 10:13

As same sex attracted girls are put on this pathway, which can lead to sterility, I also need to add that I personally thing they are also inherently being proponents of eugenics.

Acting out of malice, you say? <strokes chin>

Interesting that the straw poll (52% for disaffiliation vs 48% against) was in 2022. I imagine the numbers 'for' would be even greater now, given all the intervening sunlight

Why does this suggest he would be acting "out of malice"? He WON a discrimination case against them. So it'd be the other way round if anything.. They have treated him (their former deputy leader) and others, mainly women, appallingly and with a great deal of malice due to the obsession of the it must be said more well-to-do elements in the party and their utterly misguided obsession with pushing gender woo at the expense of, well, any of their former and certainly any actual green or scientific principles.

Sharah Ali won a discrimination case (incidentally, other cases against the Green Party are in the pipeline).

Why on earth would that mean that he's acting out of malice?

Litterpicking · 03/02/2025 19:43

Just had a message from a Green Party member to say that the Green Party has circulated a message denying that the Green Party has left Stonewall and doubling down on their support for them. I tried to post the message from What's App but couldn't do so.

cariadlet · 03/02/2025 20:14

The Green Party hasn't denied it; the LGBTQ+ group put out a statement denying that it's happened.

cariadlet · 03/02/2025 20:15

I tried attaching a screenshot of the LGBTQ+ tweet but it wouldn't post. I'll try again.

cariadlet · 03/02/2025 20:17

I'll do a link instead.

I see 'social justice' comes before 'environmental justice' now. Pretending you can change sex is more important than saving the planet apparently

ellenback21 · 03/02/2025 20:37

"It has come to our attention that a post on Twitter/X has been circulating, claiming that the Green Party has disaffiliated from Stonewall. This is false.

There has been no change in policy regarding the party’s affiliation with Stonewall, this has been confirmed to us by the party’s leadership, CEO, executive committee and regional council.

The post also contains a screenshot of a proposed motion to conference which has never been debated by the party. The Green Party has a consistent history of voting in the interests of the LGBTIQA+ community.

We - the LGBTIQA+ Greens and the Green Party of England and Wales - remain committed to Stonewall Diversity Champions. We will continue to fight against the anti-trans narratives by the media, government and other organisations.

Spreading misinformation maliciously or negligently is incredibly dangerous, particularly from those with large platforms. Misinformation is a tool used by the far-right which has allowed them to gain power and relevance across the UK and rest of the world; which recently has resulted in the election of Trump.

Please don't fall for words from untrustworthy or unreliable sources. We will carry on fighting for social, environmental and economic justice."

Chersfrozenface · 03/02/2025 20:48

"social, environmental and economic justice" AKA the Omnicause.

TWETMIRF · 03/02/2025 20:53

Untrustworthy sources such as the LGBTIQA+ Greens and other people that say men can be women?

northwestgirl · 03/02/2025 21:26

yes, I had that message from GP NW, copied from the alphabet soup green statement 'as we endorse it wholeheartedly'
unclear who 'we' are

cariadlet · 03/02/2025 22:31

The Alphabets were always going to get themselves worked up about Shahrar Ali's disafiliation tweet.

I think that it's more interesting to go on Twitter and see who is keeping quiet, neither confirming or denying it:
Green Party official account
Carla Denyer - co-leader, MP, TRA
Sian Berry - MP, TRA
Zack Polanski - deputy leader, TRA

Green Party tweeted for alphabet history month (which was quote tweeted by some of the others) but silent about Stonewall.

Same with Sian and Carla who made a show of themselves in Parliament when Wes Streeting supported Cass and a ban on puberty blockers.

Same with Zack who likes to flaunt his TRA credentials and is a shameless self-promoter.

allstarsuperstar · 03/02/2025 23:41

It's arse-covering. The Green name is tarnished - not just in the UK with E&W and the especially horrendous Scottish Greens, but all Green parties around the world, who have not just championed but prioritised this depravity from the word go.

As an ex-Green voter, I would never in a million years give them my vote. Shame on them, and I hope the party crashes frankly.

musicalfrog · 03/02/2025 23:44

I still don't trust them.
