US passes bill to protect women's and girls' sport

Good news: the Republican-dominated house of representatives has passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports bill, which will stop trans-identified boys and men competing in girls' sports in school.

A typically biased report from the Guardian:

God the Grun can't ever centre women in matters relating to women, can they? Even the URL says "trans bill" not "womens bill". 🤢

“ the bill does not explain how schools would verify sex”

Heres a thought, ask the girls who are sharing changing rooms with tall adolescent people with a penis/ no breasts/ a deep voice and male muscle development , and -HUGE CLUE - have failed to get a place on the male sports teams in time for college applications.

Helleofabore · 15/01/2025 08:50

I read this last night as it happened on twitter. Apparently, only 2 of the Democratic Party members supported the bill. Still, it is through. That is school sports protected. Yay!

nauticant · 15/01/2025 08:50

This has happened before Trump is (re-)inaugurated as president. Things have certainly changed there, at least at the level of the administration.

NecessaryScene · 15/01/2025 09:01

Good point from the Guardian. There is a big problem of falsified sex in ID and records. Easy implementation will require that to be dealt with.

Nice that they've highlighted it.

Great piece. It's a shame that the bill might yet fall at the Senate, because this is an important chance to correct the terrible wrong of males competing in female sports. I don't know enough about US politics to know if Trump, once in office, will be able to push through a change like this without Senate support - probably not.

I gather that in a number of states children have to go through some sort of physical health check before starting sports which I guess would go some way in identifying sex. I’ve no idea about privacy regarding medical records and the implications of falsifying records, although it doesn’t show TP in a good light if the assumption is that they purposefully lie in order to get onto a sports team. As for the ‘genital checks’ I’ve seen clips on X which are all quite over the top - one bloke was talking about strange adult men checking 4 year old girls pants!!

lcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2025 09:27

That headline is wrong, I very much doubt that anyone is banned from competing in the sport of their natal sex.

Now there’s an idea!

lifeturnsonadime · 15/01/2025 09:29

The reactions on social media are shocking.
Back to the idea of genital inspections and very little concern about the impact on girls of the destruction of their sport.

I think the USA is in a position where the legislation is protecting girls women but I'm not 100% the public is fully behind it after years of Democrat 'be kind' messaging.

I remember when the Guardian used to campaign on women’s issues. God, that makes me feel old.

But if sex wasn't immediately obvious which it is then cheek swabs are non-invasive and determine XY or XX and only need to be done once. So people going on about genital inspections are either perverts or idiots.

AOC went off on one about 'genital inspections' of children, like she's never heard of birth certificates, antenatal, perinatal and neonatal medical records, or cheek swabs. Or indeed DNA.

Indeed. Nobody ever mentioned "genital checks" until men with a fetish started demanding access to unclothed girls and women in changing rooms etc. Their choice of language is deliberate.

themostspecialelfintheworkshop · 15/01/2025 10:50

I bet those trying to gaslight people about the obvious idiocy of genital inspections are on left wing social media. Trump's re-election shows most people think boys in girls sports is insane and backwards, and also shows that social media does absolutely not represent the majority of voters.

As with everything with the trans movement there's an obvious underlying porn influence. It's so grim, especially when the language is applied to children.

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 15/01/2025 10:57

I no longer read the Guardian. But it’s still sad to see the paper I once respected printing straight-out lies. Its headline: House Republicans pass bill to ban trans women and girls from school sports.

Utterly shameless. No one has been banned from school sports, only from competing in girls’ sports if they’re male.

Do Guardian writers not even know the difference between truth and lies any more?

I’m noticing the porn aspect more and more. I suppose it’s inevitable, given the proportion of male sex fetishists rushing into this new playground. That makes me even more concerned about the teenage girls wandering innocently into it.

I was going to say the same thing, if any adult in the schools really, really can't tell the difference between the sexes, they can do a cheek swab, science is a lot smart than they are.

@Username65 - just in case you don't know and aren't comfortable with it, when I clicked on that share link I was given a message on the substack "Jane Smith* shared this with you".

That's the lie trans activists try to push isn't it?

lcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2025 11:47

Yes, the headline isn't just wrong, it's deliberately deceptive. Oh, the poor trans children stopped from playing sports by the mean Republicans. An outright lie to garner sympathy. The 'genital inspection' is another one. It elicits a kneejerk reaction of disgust to make the Republicans look like perverts. No sane person would countenance such checks. I think it was in the early draft of one bill (Florida?), but was swiftly removed. Cheek swabs, but only where birth certificates and other documentation can't be trusted, would be sufficient.

The cynical disingenuousness of it! She's not a fool; she knows perfectly well that there's no need for that.
