Ivor Caplin, 66, was apparently arrested in Brighton yesterday and his flat searched after a sting operation by paedophile hunters. It is alleged that he thought he was on his way to have sex with a 15yo boy. His X/Twitter feed, maintained in his own name and followed by many senior Labour figures, was reportedly littered with explicit sexual images from which it would seem he has a strong sexual attraction to very young men. Odd behaviour for an ex-MP running a consultancy of some sort now.

This news story from some months ago was from around the time he was either suspended or chucked out from the Labour Party after undisclosed serious allegations. It may of course be a coincidence. No charges appear to have followed this incident, according to people digging around and reporting back on X. https://www.brightonandhovenews.org/2024/06/20/hove-man-arrested-over-alleged-sex-attack-on-homeless-person/

He was on GB News a few days ago objecting to Elon Musk's wild rants against Jess Phillips and Keir Starmer. This is being portrayed on X as Caplin not wanting too much scrutiny of paedophile activity. I'm sure this couldn't possibly be the case.

It's always fucking Brighton.

Yes. Always fucking men too. Safeguarding the vulnerable vs what men want: always 0-1.

Awful, when he was MP I used to walk past his house as I lived nearby, he lived with his wife and family.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 12/01/2025 10:21

I wonder if it will be found that he was a supporter/advocate of PIE when he was involved in the Labour Party.

Sortumn · 12/01/2025 10:27

I'm shocked and sickened that his account was followed by so many high profile people and not one raised the alarm.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/01/2025 10:31

I don't know that there was anything illegal on what was visible to the public. Eyewateringly explicit, yes, illegal, probably not. If this had been a man in his 60s posting images of very young women, I wonder if more notice might have been taken. It just seems a staggeringly unprofessional thing to do from the point of view of reputation management. It does also make me wonder if that's what he was choosing to share publicly, how much franker was he in private communications?

OP posts:
Sortumn · 12/01/2025 10:35

Nothing illegal but surely it must have raised red flags.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/01/2025 10:40

Well yes, to most MN regulars (this board anyway) it would, but how often do we see these red flags totally ignored? Dispiriting.

His X feed is shocking for an ex MP still engaged in politics/the media. Don't understand why his high profile followers/their staff didn't unfollow. No mention of this on the Sunday political programmes but suspect there will be scrutiny this week.

Unfortunately not, these paedophile hunter groups are catching hundreds of men each month.

PronounssheRa · 12/01/2025 11:04

Has anyone checked out the followers of his X account 🤯

Ugh, his social media posts were grim...

As one of the replies says “if this is what he says in public…”

RoyalCorgi · 12/01/2025 11:07

I know moderation has been lax since Musk took over but I'm shocked at the explicit nature of the pictures on Caplin's X feed. I also find it difficult to understand why he thought it was acceptable to post pornographic images on a public-facing social media site.

FranticFrankie · 12/01/2025 11:08

That’s vile- those tweets are shocking; so brazen!!
Presumably his hard drive will be checked?
Disgusting individual

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 12/01/2025 11:10

He was on tv this week complaining about Elon Musk exposing child rape gangs. Figures.

Filth.

The high profile Labour politicians following him would know what kind of stuff he was posting, so the question is wtf didn’t they unfollow him?

Yes, you're right. I remember seeing porn under the old regime even at a time they were banning women for saying things like "men can't be women". I don't know whether that's because they had a deliberate policy of allowing porn, or whether they were just failing to pick it up.

The porn/TRA Venn Diagram is often a circle

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 12/01/2025 15:24

The CPS was among his followers.

Problematic for this administration though, as they can hardly point to all the cock on an MP's account as some kind of gotcha about How Simply Awful X Is Now Musk Is At The Helm.

Given the party to which said MP belongs...that's politics, I guess.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/01/2025 15:30

Deliberate policy, I'd say, both before and after Musk. I have sometimes come across very explicit images, i.e. involving genitalia and sexual activity, and reported them, to no effect. This surprised me back in the days when I was naive enough to think that they would care, given that the minimum age to have a Twitter account was 13. It doesn't surprise me now. I assume they were somehow making money out of having people post stuff like this. I've never quite understood the economics of X/Twitter.

Until yesterday and possibly still today but I haven't checked, Rachel still followed him and loads of other MPs. Did they not notice anything amiss in his posts.

They must have, he’s retweeting stuff all the time and that would show up on their timeline.
