My terfing energy has been focussed elsewhere in recent months and I haven't been here or on TwiX or social media much. Now I've taken responsibility for tweeting/ comms on behalf of a small but potentially significant LGB group and I discover that there seems to be something going on — another schism — in GC world. Jane Clare Jones's name seems to be coming up a lot. Something seems to have gone on but I can't work out what.

If it was my own account I'd just ignore, but the followers of this account are bringing it up and seem to expect an opinion to be expressed or a side to be taken. Also I'm seeing a lot about 'ultras' and 'lites', which is new to me. Can anyone enlighten me? I need to tread carefully.

She might mean kjk, but there are shades of opinion on this board about how to deal with the Malaga Airport problem. Mostly libertarian/pragmatic (how could it be policed?), but lots in favour of formal dress codes at work etc. So a GC person could be in favour of enforced gender norms, for a specific purpose (protecting the vulnerable from being co-opted into the public practice of a fetish).

KJK getting wound up by men with AGP, or, more likely deciding to wind up men with AGP, isn't really representative of gender critical women. It still surprises me how many women are infuriated by it.

CJC seems to think that all women who support KJK's activism regard her as a messiah whose every word must be taken as gospel.

I have met the odd woman like that (she was pretty odd) but most women I've met who support KJK think she's broadly right but not in every statement.

Maybe that's what riles JCJ so much, she wants everything she says to be pored over as the final word?

It's in reference to a tweet from KJK saying men (and she is specific that she means any men, not just transwomen) shouldn't sell makeup (tweet from yesterday at 22.04) and makeup counters should only be staffed by women.

Of course we don't have to agree with KJK in all things but I personally can't cede any ground that what makes men men is their biology- not what they wear, hair, makeup etc.

I think there is something to that statement. I would find it uncomfortable to have a male person giving me a facial or putting on make up for me. However, male people need advice for make up too, so selling it is a different issue.

I also think there is a lot more to the term ‘womanface’ than just superficial make up though. And that to dismiss the term as only referring to that is somewhat disingenuous.

What is it in response to? I really can't get worked up about either whether men work on make up counters or whether KJK wants them there. I think men can be good make up artists, but I can see how some women might be uncomfortable with it, it is quite intimate. I can also see how MTFs might do it for validation etc, and I'd find that unappealing, personally.

She must know that KJK goes out of her way to avoid any label which could be construed as representating a group that she doesn't conform to.

I have no idea. I mean she’s been told a gazillion times that KJK does not regard herself as a feminist, there isn’t a GC ‘movement’ just lots of people who think biological sex is real & sometimes that reality really matters and that KJK is not the leader of the mythical GC movement
