More violent tactics used in an attempt to silence women

https://x.com/NancyMace/status/1866659978108617037

"I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-trans man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your trans violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO"

Meghan Murphy interviewed Nancy for her podcast. This is a teaser for the longer interview which at the moment is subscriber only. In it Nancy talks about her experience of fleeing her abusive male partner and how that's influenced her, particularly on issues of women's safety.

"The fact men are often so violent really makes me want to share changing rooms with them," said no woman ever.

Yep.

Newsweek is as captured as any other mainstream publication. They probably have it in their style guide to include boilerplate about how all trans people are innocent, etc.

Was looking to see if there was a thread on this, Helen Joyce tweeted it on Tuesday. The Guardian ran an opinion piece by Jay Saper, one of the bathroom 'protesters'. It is a vile, race-baiting, misogynistic rant that veers so far away from any kind of accurate reporting or fair comment I'd call it defamation. Even for the Graun I can't believe they saw fit to print it.

Another example of the inability of some to understand the word NO.

"..To her, our bodies are to be dismembered and placed as a present under the Christmas tree of cis salvation..". 😂

Yet another emotionally incontinent display - not surprised the Guardian published it - it fits well with their bias.

I notice there's a new thread about a hidden camera that was found in the mixed sex toilets of a Scottish school.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/12/2024 12:04

The US version of the Guardian is batshit.

SinnerBoy · 20/12/2024 12:59

That Saper fellow seems like a man to avoid reading in future. What a ridiculous load of hyperbole; aside from anything else, I simply don't believe that Mace shouted slurs through a megaphone, whilst they were locked up.

BabaYagasHouse · 20/12/2024 13:02

Seems a good place to put this for those who fancy a listen.

Yes I also thought that was too serious an accusation to throw around without receipts. The whole thing is an immature, dangerous piece meant to dehumanise the woman telling him no.

That he thinks not being allowed in women's toilets is an injustice akin to racist lynchings is not just completely abhorrent but scary.

SigourneyHoward · 20/12/2024 15:03

That quote from Saper sounds very like another poster on here who is in thrall to an overworked, hyperbolic sentence... (with a hideous tendency to draw upon holocaust analogies)

nauticant · 20/12/2024 16:09

Jay Saper, Author at Autostraddle ... is a trans anti-Zionist Jewish artist, translator, and organizer who lives in Brooklyn, New York.

In the days following the US election, I was drunk posting on MN and got banned (for good reasons ... I was really drunk and really mad about Trump and went overboard) But they just graciously let me return.

Since that time, I've been dying to learn if any witches across the pond knew the grand way Nancy Mace has been standing up for women's rights and I'm so happy to see this thread! Despite be still being a Democrat (healthcare, guns, workers rights and climate keep me just barely loyal) I keep sending her office happy messages of support and thanks. She's got a warrior vibe about her and I love it!!

Gosh, that sounds like a rather familiar style of writing.

I wondered where you were!

What would you say is the general view among Democrat supporters towards Nancy Mace? Is there any sign yet of a rethink on this issue or are they mostly doubling down like their party (at least from where I'm sitting) appears to be doing?

She's brilliant! I'm in awe of her for how she's not giving an inch.

Delphinium20 · 22/12/2024 01:34

good to hear from you, Flo!

Mace has a reasonable view on abortion - she was livid some abortion ban state bills didn't cover instances like rape or incest and wants to have abortion up until 18 weeks unless recommended by doctor for medical reasons or danger to mother (don't quote me on 18 number, but it's close to that).

However, why she thinks Trump is a good idea? OMG...I don't know, so I don't agree with her there at all. I don't like how she mocks 'woke' as it just puts people on edge as opposed to pulling people in. At the same time, I LOVE her strength of character.

I haven't yet heard from many Dems about Mace, but a few of us on the left (in my rad fem circles) have talked about the thrill of having a prominent woman in Congress defending women's rights! She also cares about changing laws to make it easier to get out of paying back rent if you're fleeing domestic abuse. Those are traditionally Democrat policies, so her interest in these issues would indicate she's making a move to the middle as a moderate Republican.

A lot of Dems are heads down and not ready to think critically. Some are in full denial, like a good friend of mine. She can't even have a conversation about it and was angry when I said whoever came up with the they/them ad deserved a raise as it looks like it gave Trump the presidency and why didn't the Dems hire someone smart like that? Yes, some of us have talked openly about mistakes Dems made and some are really angry that we have to have a Republican standing up for women...even my TWAW friend thinks the Dems made mistakes, she cited ignoring health care and focusing on some elusive 'joy' when people can't pay for groceries. But she's got a son who thinks he's a woman, so she's going to be one of those women who you just can't talk about anything GC or she falls apart. I imagine women like this friend, who can rationally see other mistakes of the Dems, won't like Mace because she threatens her son's access to do what he wants.

Mace is unapologetically for women's rights. And that is a breath of fresh air. I'm not seeing traditional Democrat women's groups giving her any time at all, which makes me think they are scared to, because she makes sense.

Thanks for the link, I enjoyed listening to that and I got more of a sense of Mace as a person and as a politician.

It also made me angry at how much the Democratic Party has let down women by being unreasonable and unrealistic over the last decade or so. Moderate Republicans, like Mace appears to be, seem to be more in line with what a large portion of the American population feels regarding social issues and the Dems have just left those votes on the table by refusing to listen to what voters were telling them pre-election.
