why are we even discussing this? Ive had microwave meals smarter than Himdia.

I regard IW as someone who is permanently stupid and I regard LOJ as someone who is permanently pointless but if LOJ is suffering from chronic heartburn and Gaviscon isn't the answer then maybe he should seek the advice of his GP and be prescribed lansalprosole or however it spelled.

puffyisgood · 07/12/2024 23:38

I suppose I'm generally sympathetic to India's criticism of Israel. I suspect that India might come across as a fairly decent bloke in small doses, if it were possible to avoid certain subjects. Completely bonkers, though, obviously, and this suggestion to LOJ is very much in keeping with that.

Or maybe he should stop spewing bile for a living. That would work too.

That's his USP, isn't it? What else has he to offer?

Ok, whilst I agree IW is a TRA of the highest order, it's still not antisemitic to criticise genocide... So pleased don't use the feminism board to mix up your arguments.

I would actually stand side by side with India in criticism of Israel. I'd stand side by side with flipping Rachel McKinnon and Lia Thomas in criticism of Israel. This is a situation where we're talking about literal genocide and not "literal (trans) genocide"

It's not antisemitic to criticise Israel.

It is antisemitic to suggest that if a journalist who has criticised Israel has a stomach ache, he has been deliberately poisoned for his views on Israel.

Shortshriftandlethal · 08/12/2024 11:38

Can't wait for india and OJ's analysis of the situation in Syria.....they must be elated, what... with their deep and abiding engagement and concern for middle eastern politics...... for the fate of the yazidis and the Kurds.

The IDF has killed many journalists in Gaza. It is not as though they don’t kill journalists, even if it is absurd to think they’d bother with OJ. The IDF kills those who can give first hand accounts from Gaza.

That's because the journalists are either Hamas operatives themselves or Hamas-adjacent.

What about Russian assassinations? It would not be anti-all Russians for a paranoid person to suspect a poisoning of a U.K. journalist who criticised Putin. It would just be unlikely and silly.

Echobelly · 08/12/2024 13:56

It's very stupid but as Jew I don't see it as antisemitic. The Israeli government, which is not the same thing as 'all Jews everywhere', has a track record for assassinating enemies, but that's more in terms of taking out military targets; I hardly think they'd bother with Owen Jones!

I am surmising though that IW’s remark to IJ was not anti -Semitic in that it was not against Jewish people in general, but against the IDF/the Israeli government in particular in their war in Gaza, with IW wildly extrapolating that as a result of OJ’s inflammatory articles about the war, like this

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/oct/17/northern-gaza-israel-depraved-campaign,

the IDF might want him gone.

If IW is always going on about Jews in general being responsible for everything wrong, it would be different - is IW generally like this ?
If not, this seems possibly to be more about IW jumping to the wrong conclusion re the violent IDF.

Edited

If you make a negative comment about Nigeria that relates to negative stereotypes about black people generally (for example, something about drug use), it could be a legitimate criticism of Nigeria, or it could in fact be racist. It’s not always clear where people have got their ideas from or what their motivations are, but I’d be open to the idea that these comments have an anti-Semitic lineage.

I can't comment on what India supposedly said this time, I haven't looked, but people say stupid things all day every day. Is it only of interest when it's been said by a trans person?

India positions Indiaself as some kind of self-righteous moral authority. A quick skim of some of India's previous Tweets reveals a level of crass stupidity that explains why India is unemployed and seemingly unemployable.

There's a screenshot right at the beginning of the thread, it really only takes 10 seconds to read it.

You like to post whenever a woman says something you disagree with. As you like to pretend that India is a woman, surely you welcome a post on India saying something bad? Is it only of interest when it's been said by a real woman?

Why are anti-Israelis incapable of criticising Israel without being anti-Semitic? You conflate anything and everything with expressing legitimate opinions.

India Willoughby suggested that Israel would poison a laughingstock of a foreign journalist for criticising them. That is unfounded and absurd, and shows paranoia against Israel. Finally, it is not remotely expressing a valid concern about Israel's actions. It's just anti-Semitic lunacy.
