Man aggressively interrupts interview about more safe spaces for women

Couldn't make it up. Man refused to leave so they had to go elsewhere. He's sitting down where the women being interviewed were sitting.

Thankyou ITV for including it and making the point for us.

Man aggressively interrupts interview about more safe spaces for women

Tweet says

"Sadly you couldn’t make this up:

Man aggressively interrupts women filming a report about creating safe spaces for women.

A mother and daughter sharing their story on feeling unsafe had to stop as he became verbally aggressive, perfectly proving why such spaces are needed."

Oh FFS that's awful. I'm glad they kept it in to demonstrate how much of a dick he was

WarriorN · 04/12/2024 20:42

Yes, very glad they have.

Gill Jones was speaking about a family night out which ended in a violent brawl after a stranger tried to sexually assault her daughter Beth Fletcher.
But, just moments after they began, a man - who ITV has chosen to anonymise - appeared and sat in the middle of the park bench, between the women and the journalist.
When it was explained they were filming an ITV News story about a charity event and the man was politely asked if he could wait a few minutes to finish filming, he refused, despite there being other empty benches nearby.
The man then became verbally aggressive and threatening and, for the safety of everyone involved, the group were left with no option but to leave the area.
Ironically, the story they were trying to film was about a campaign by the charity Tomorrow's Womenn* to create more safe spaces for women.

Thus proving exactly why safe spaces are needed: to get away from absolute cunts like him.

Shame they anonymised him, he should be named and shamed. Only if there’s consequences will there be any change.

WTAF?

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 04/12/2024 22:26

That's weird

But there is good chance he did not know the interview was about safe spaces for women and just wanted to stop an interview being done (as in was not protesting about the subject)

It's bizarre though as they were sitting on the bench first and were clearly doing an interview

I don’t understand the logic of trying to defend him? Obviously he doesn’t know what the interview is about but that’s not the point - the point is he was being rude and aggressive to three women just because he could and they had to move because of him. There needs to be a male curfew.

Why see you making excuses for him? They told him what they were doing, he refused to leave and became ‘verbally aggressive and threatening’. They could have been doing an interview on crochet patterns for all he knew, yet he still knowingly chose to make them women. It’s the behaviour that matters.

But it doesn’t matter if he knew what they were talking about. He still went and invaded their space and wouldn’t move. Then became aggressive (according to the video and tweets by the poster). Sheesh.

It’s not ‘bizarre’ it’s intrusive, threatening and proves the point of the whole interview.

ManhattanPopcorn · 04/12/2024 22:41

I wish they didn't blur his face. He deliberately placed himself in front of the camera so he chose to be filmed.

Jux · 04/12/2024 22:46

And apparently there were other benches free. I'd have moved to one of them rather than leave altogether, just to see what he did then. If he followed to my new bench, then no nice male anonymising.

This! Maybe if they get replies, they might unblur! Wtf did he think he was doing. He's seen a camera, shoved himself into the space...he can be identified.

Apillthatmakesyousayalltherightstuff · 04/12/2024 22:57

Ffs, what an absolute pain. I wonder if he overheard what they were discussing and intruded to stop the subject being discussed. So annoying. Hope the Tomorrow's Women project get plenty of publicity and support through this, every cloud etc.

Thunderpants88 · 04/12/2024 23:02

I did t see him becoming remotely verbally agressive he just said no and sat

VegTrug · 04/12/2024 23:23

Did you actually watch the video?! All the bloke did was sit down. He wasn’t aggressive at all! 🙄

That's the part they showed us, yes

pity they didn't film the whole exchange

the link explains more

No he did more than that.

It's irrelevant whether he knew what they were talking about or not. Either way it was deliberately abusive and domineering

ZeldaFighter · 05/12/2024 08:38

I'm surprised that itv haven't shown his face and reported him to the police for antisocial behaviour. They've got the film. It's appalling that they as an organisation haven't demonstrated their commitment to protecting their journalist.

I wonder if you could get the footage as an FOI request?

If you watch the clip it’s apparent that they edited what happened. They showed him plonking himself down on the bench (who the F would do that anyway?) but not whatever exchange preceded that. It was clear from the conversation when the women regrouped to another location that he’d been aggressive. We can’t tell how long he was being a twat for or how much they tried to reason with him before giving up and leaving him to his self-entitled idiocy.

I suspect he'd be more than happy to be shown and identified.

Shoving himself between two women who were just talking would have been an act of aggression.

anythinginapinch · 05/12/2024 10:35

"All the bloke did was..." is an excuse trotted out time and again to minimise and sanitise men's actions. "All he did was smack her bum", "all he did was have a few beers with his mates"

Realityisreal · 05/12/2024 11:17

@VegTrug Do you honestly believe he would have done the same if it was men sitting on the bench chatting?
Just another bloke imposing his presence on women, because he can.
