Work wanting to sponsor an organisations that find raises for the fishy folk

The person proposing this, I believe, doesn't understand why there is an issue with this particular 'charity'.

I've looked at the events this organisation runs and there are large red flags with regard to content, attendees and structure of the events - and the description reads as if it is very much aimed at young adults, and people with emotional issues ('safe spaces', sensory spaces, special lighting, lots of messages about how inclusive they are and made up words, etc etc etc).

A member of the team made an interesting comment about 'IF this is the type of organisation we want to be associated with').

How do I raise concerns without the inevitable accusations?

Would you consider the charity doesn't have particularly good safeguarding policies in place?

It's difficult to answer really unless you mention which charity it is.

EDIT - nvm, brain fart moment. Have the charity commission released their report yet? Otherwise put charity name in the search bar.

Should any organisation get involved with a child sex change charity that has had so many paedophile and porn scandals? There's a massive reputational risk surely?

Lots of links in this thread OP that could be shared :

You have an ally. Work together.

Charity commission investigation, numerous ocimented safeguarding failures - I'd emphasise the recent withdrawal of a lot of major donors because of the reputational risk, particularly as with a history like that there is a higher probability that there will be future scandals emerging.

Also question why you'd want to donate to an organisation that then passed the funds on elsewhere rather than donating directly - and more efficiently - to a chosen charity.

Could you suggest an alternative organisation to support? What are the aims of the sponsorship? I'd reference the Charity Commission report, sound out your potential ally and propose a couple of alternatives. Does your organisation want to fund a national charity or would a local charity be more appropriate?

Can't really give too many details but it's a healthcare provider. So ideally working with young people who have physical issues - most likely as a result of drugs and surgeries.

Detransitioners would be a target group - but technically they aren't T are they? 🙄

If detransitioners are a target group then that's a strong reason to avoid an activist group like Mermaids. If I recall correctly, even the trans captured NHS has stopped signposting to Mermaids which must say a lot about how damaging they're considered to be .
And if it's children with physical issues, how tone deaf would it be to promote an organisation that tells them that their bodies are flawed but a sex change could be the cure?

HoneyButterPopcorn · 03/12/2024 09:48

Ok so does anyone know any health charities who work with detransitioners? I tried googling it but the fishy folk come up top in search (so I guess someone knows how to manage their website at least).

I think we risk attracting people who are either merrily medicating healthy bodies and suffering the consequences (in which case can we tell them that their problems have been caused by this and that they will only get worse if they continue?), or people with no health issues as a result of their ideology (and for whatever reason are attracted to anything that is specifically set up for this group).

There are a lot of well meaning folks here who don't seem to think...
