Mermaids charity paedophile & porn photos scandal in the press

The Times have covered the Mermaid's employee and his pornographic photos as well as the trustee over interested in paedophilia. I didn't think the press would cover this as it's so extreme but am relieved they have as schools who promote Mermaids really need to know what children are being exposed to. Share token:

Jesus fucking h Christ.

Yeah all i the name of diversity though eh ? Or - could this be some pervert ? Using the fact people are scared to call bullshit on this madness ? There will be a massive massive backlash at some point similar to the CSE scandals . Mark my words .

GretaGip · 11/10/2022 01:37

That's horrendous.

That article doesn't pull any punches does it?

The tide is turning.

CaptainBarbosa · 11/10/2022 01:40

I mean let's be honest, is anyone genuinely shocked to find such people on Mermaids employment roster? 🙄

It's all just bizzare and criminal if you ask me. Like Sodom and Gomorrah on steroids.

Cheekymaw · 11/10/2022 01:42

Well, so many of us women here said it. And so many women not here said . All that was learned from Saville, Rotherham, PIE, Lambeth etc has all been forgotten and dismissed ! Makes me sick ! And those in power like Sturgeon etc will not be removed for this ! Children will not be any safer ! 😭

GrinitchSpinach · 11/10/2022 02:40

This piece pulls no punches. Is this the first mainstream article to use sex-specific pronouns for someone who claims special pronouns?

MangyInseam · 11/10/2022 02:41

Apart from the rest, and I know this is missing the point, these people are just so lame.

Most people get a vibe about lame weirdos, but it really seems like there is a whole group where they have shut that instinct down.

PriOn1 · 11/10/2022 05:04

I’m beginning to think Mermaids might actually be taken down. The Times seems to have finally got its teeth into this scandal and it’s bearking in waves.

And judging by something said in another thread, the potential replacements seem to be mostly led by unsavoury men who dress in women’s clothes, but have some demonstrably male traits if you dig at all.

Mermaids has always been the “innocent and untouchable” face of trans ideology, alongside Stonewall, of course.

BenCooperSuperTrouper · 11/10/2022 05:18

All of this shit, soaking through the public and not for profit sector, will lead back to queer theory being treated seriously by academia.

Helleofabore · 11/10/2022 05:45

When will this organisation learn they have to have the highest level of safeguarding otherwise they really are treating the children and young people they are supposed to support as deserving less?

They have taken the word inclusive In an organisational sense to mean ‘no boundaries’. And as a children’s organisation this is incredibly harmful.

I wonder if the very least they are going to do is to throw the CEO as a sacrifice. I cannot see how Green can stay in that organisation as a bare minimum. She has allowed this safeguarding fiasco to happen.

However, it all needs to come down.

Was there some significance though in this person wearing socks in the porn collage? An attempt to normalise porn? Was it meant to funny in some way?

It is possible though that Mews was on their way out of Mermaids or already out unofficially (on garden leave) so Mermaids could not contractually remove Mews from the website. They were advertising for a new Digital Officer.

Has anyone at Mermaids made a statement about this latest expose?

StandUpStraight · 11/10/2022 06:01

Whisper it, but I think that Mermaids really are toast this time. The journalists smell blood now, and there will surely be more revelations. I would just love to understand why it has taken them so long, when the writing has been on the wall forever. There’s been a palpable shift in the media - can it all have been precipitated by their attacks on the LGB Alliance? I find that hard to believe - what else has changed to suddenly make it acceptable to do some proper journalism into this organisation?

WarriorN · 11/10/2022 06:05

His role as digital engagement officer is very chilling given online harms

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 11/10/2022 06:07

I'm glad the press is showing the truth about Mermaids. Hopefully it does show the tide turning. As it should.

Clymene · 11/10/2022 06:13

Those photos, in combination with Mew's bylines on much of their web content and the review of a residential weekend by another mermaids digital engagement officer really show that they don't care about safeguarding.

I really hope they're toast now. They're cavalier with their data, their advice and the people they employ to talk to vulnerable children.

Their safeguarding policies are worthless

Helleofabore · 11/10/2022 06:17

Considering that Mermaids has been used as a blunt stick by other more powerful organisations, such as Stonewall, to attack competition like LGB Alliance, it must be galling that they have no public protection other than token from those organisations who seemed to be benefitting from Mermaids existence.

The public are not going to remember the ‘we suspended our help line because’ articles. They will remember the we had a porn star digital engagement officer and a newly appointed trustee who were both all about breaking down boundaries around sex. As a children’s organisation.

I have my doubts as to where that abuse aimed at the help line came from. If it happened, then that is most concerning. However; it doesn’t distract from this massive failings. And those who all posted their support last week, I wonder if it will sink in after this incident with Mews.

Helleofabore · 11/10/2022 06:21

And what are Mews pronouns? I thought they were they / she.

The Times may have to print a correction there.

However, I hope that now more mainstream media will pick this up. As usual, I suspect BBC will be late to the game and only after seeing how the other service’s articles have been received.

Shakenotslurred · 11/10/2022 06:30

I would love to see if Mr Mew had the balls to go to the Times and demand a correction.

Rightsraptor · 11/10/2022 06:31

I expect Mermaids will take the view that whatever they does in theys own time is up to they and is private. Despite posting it all publicly.

Mermaids clearly have no idea of what safeguarding means, they surely cannot survive now.

As to the use of the correct pronouns for Darren Mew (I'd have expected him to be catgenger with a name like that), I really hope this media outlet has grown some balls and that they no longer play any stupid games for the benefit of such people, to the confusion and fury of the rest of us.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 11/10/2022 06:33

You know how some people say “I’m not one to say ‘I told you so but..’” ?

Well, I’m not one of those people. I did tell you so.

And so did almost every regular on the FWR board told you so.

People should have been listening a long time ago.

I’m glad that the media is (finally) reporting this.

Rightsraptor · 11/10/2022 06:34

@Clymene - do you have a link to the review of the residential weekend by the other 'digital engagement officer'?

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/10/2022 06:51

When " entry requirements" seem only to be " do you hate terfs/women enough " one is not surprised you get some dodgy fuckers..

Safguarding is offensive remember.

Helleofabore · 11/10/2022 07:05

Yes Scully. Safeguarding is offensive.

Kink shaming is too. Let’s not forget the extremes that leads to as well.

How on earth can safeguarding be done when ‘kink shaming’ is considered an act of violence and can then be extrapolated to not ‘shame’ child sexual abusers. The inconsistencies are mind blowing.

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/10/2022 07:14

Kink shaming is too. Let’s not forget the extremes that leads to as well

Didnt take long to figure out if you attach a label or flag to inappropriate behaviour then no one will say anything. In fact police will even pose holding your leash..

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/10/2022 07:18

I am shocked that anyone thinks someone with this content online is an appropriate candidate for a role working with children. What checks exactly did this dubious organisation carry out before employing this person?

NecessaryScene · 11/10/2022 07:18

Yes Scully. Safeguarding is offensive.

As JKR tweeted the other day:

I say this as someone who's been on the liberal left all her adult life: own goals don't come any more spectacular than 'if you care about child safeguarding you must be right wing.'

Shakenotslurred · 11/10/2022 07:20

They checked their views on whether women were deserving of rights and that they had pronouns in their bio….
