Gaining more traction than the original nomination.

Man wins woman of the year, and none of us are surprised.
What times we live in.

I know, it's a complete travesty and a farce. They've rendered the award utterly meaningless.

Peregrina · 26/11/2024 15:13

is this another person with a DSD, like the two boxers and Caster Semenya?

How is the person chosen? Do viewers vote for the person?

YellowAsteroid · 26/11/2024 15:15

Um, do they allow testosterone-fuelled players in women's international football now?

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/11/2024 15:16

Has a transman, or a woman with a DSD, ever won Sportsman of the Year? I'm not sure I have to check, do I?

viques · 26/11/2024 15:26

There are some interesting pictures on line of this man tackling female players . Let’s say he doesn’t hold back. I’m not surprised he scores so many goals, it must be easy to keep possession of the ball when most of your opponents are lying on the pitch having had the shit knocked out of them!

Try getting odds for it down at the bookies Mrs P! I think that will tell you the answer.

Daleksatemyshed · 26/11/2024 18:07

I knew before looking at the photo what I would see. This person doesn't look remotely like a woman. Why do they keep doing this? There are loads of good sportswomen, why not pick a role model for the girls of today? All this does is say don't ever think you'll win because we won't judge on merit, we'll "be kind" .

ChateauMargaux · 26/11/2024 18:38

Is anyone in the US talking about this..

Bandas team, Orlando Pride has just won the National Womens' Soccer League and Banda is the second highest goal scorer.. the highest goal scorer is Temwa Chawinga... also rumoured to be XY with DSD.

It is beyond sad, beyond infuriating, beyond belief... but here we are!!

DOES NO ONE CARE???

Snowypeaks · 26/11/2024 18:40

Football - fans, players, governing body - all captured. So mostly they don't care and are on the side of the males (who they think are females, unfairly stigmatised for looking too masculine).

Feckedupbundle · 26/11/2024 19:17

Every time I see something like this,it reinforces to me, that my decision to refuse to pay for a TV licence was the right one.
I knew that this man would win,the moment that I saw the nomination.
I bet the BBC are besides themselves with virtuosity.

duc748 · 26/11/2024 19:21

It'd be great to hear some of the Lionesses speak up on this.

Snowypeaks · 26/11/2024 19:21

Football fans? The same fans regularly accused of racism, homophobia and transphobia are captured?

Players? The same players who covered up affairs with trans women out of fear of embarrassment and others like the Argentine team criticised for their transphobic songs?

Snowypeaks · 26/11/2024 19:25

Women's football. Totally different kettle of fish.

Fans especially are very protective of gnc women (which is what they think BB is) and lesbians, and think LGBT is or should be one big happy family.

Players haven't covered up affairs to my knowledge. Women footballers in Europe are mostly, and openly, lesbian. More straight women coming in now, so it may be more like 50:50 gay:straight. Some have documented their struggles with accepting their homosexuality.

Casting my mind back, isn’t the new head of bbc sport TWAW?

AgnesVanRhijn · 26/11/2024 19:41

Any chance Lineker and his smug mates on The Rest is Football might cover this??? 🤔

duc748 · 26/11/2024 19:41

Be all that as it may, surely every team-mate and every opponent in that US league know perfectly well that they are playing with a man. And yet, nobody says anything.

Alex Jay Kelski.
I looked him up..Gay man doesn't care about women's sports non shocker.

Slartibartslow · 26/11/2024 19:49

Fuck off.
That is 100% a man.
if he played against my women’s team I’d kick him in the balls.

puffyisgood · 26/11/2024 21:53

Quite a few of the elite players in the NWSL are said to be DSD athlete, including Banda, the Chawingwa 'sisters', and Rachael Kundananji.

I don't think it's a coincidence that these current big hitters are in their early-mid 20s, they're in the right age category to have seen the writing on the wall in athletics following the Semenya rule and to have switched to soccer and I guess US women's soccer was one of the other potential careers open to them. I daresay Semenya might have been able to make the switch if she'd tried it 5-10 years ago.

I wonder if Banda [apparently a former pro boxer]'s switch to soccer had something to do with concerns that she in the future wouldn't be allowed to compete in boxing [if only she knew how 'inclusive' that sport would become down the line].

An older NWSL and also Zambia player Racheal Nachula [who missed an African Nations' football tournament following a reported gender test failure] ran the 400 metres in the 2008 Olympics and much later did 2020 Olympic soccer.

I'm not sure how many of the world's best best men's soccer players are converts from being professionals in another sport? - e.g. maybe Messi switched from trampolining or Ronaldo from bobsleigh...

Has twins by a surrogate mother apparently, so turns out he does know what a woman is when it suits him.
As JKR says on twitter:
"Yep, femaleness is just post-modern performance art until they need an incubator."

Good. This is a man. Absolutely disgraceful, BBC. What example are you trying to set girls who are keen football players?
