Women kicking off at Wembley - protest at England vs Ireland Men's Match this Sunday

The FA's suspension of a girl for the "crime" of knowing what a man looks like and wondering why he is in her football team is being protested this Sunday. Details:

On Sunday we will be outside Wembley Stadium from 1.30 pm onwards. Please come down and enjoy an afternoon of telling FA that women will not tolerate men in women’s football. Not at grassroots level, not at elite level. Defiance and laughter guaranteed.

Keep an eye on the 12o5 account on twitter for where the protestors are meeting up. Women's Football is coming home folks.

Protest planned at England vs Ireland over female teenager’s transgender comment ban
Action group hoping to convince Martina Navratilova to help promote their cause

Hundreds of women are planning a protest at England’s Nations League game against the Republic of Ireland over the banning of a teenage female footballer who asked a “bearded” transgender opponent: “Are you a man?”
A group calling itself Twelve O Five is behind the proposed Wembley demonstration amid growing outrage over a six-match suspension imposed last month by a national serious case panel on a 17-year-old with suspected autism, who wept upon being grilled about her comments last month.
The action has been called for 1.30pm, before Sunday’s 5pm kick-off, with organisers expecting hundreds to attend in protest against the teenager’s ban, which began on Monday, and the Football Association’s policy of allowing those born male to play in women’s football.
Hundreds of women attended a demonstration organised by the same group at the German Embassy in London on November 1 in opposition to the country’s recent law change criminalising the misgendering of transgender people. Similar action took place on the same day outside the nation’s embassies worldwide.
The group behind the London protest adopted the name Twelve O Five, meaning five past midnight, in reference to what they say is a German maxim about something already being too late to prevent.
One of its leaders, Jean Hatchet, told Telegraph Sport: “It’s blatantly unfair to put so much pressure on a girl so young and expect her to defend herself.
“So, as women, as stronger women in better positions to oppose this unfairness, we feel that we have to do something. We’re hoping to pull big figures in. Martina Navratilova has agreed to help promote. We’re hoping that kind of attention will get quite a lot of people down there.
“We’ll have a big banner, we’re going to have a megaphone, we’re going to have leaflets. So we’re just going to hit as many fans as possible and get them to pay attention. Because I think that’s the only way we can get the FA to look closely at how they’ve been manipulated.
“Our aim overall is to reverse the policy that the FA has in place.”
The girl whose plight has triggered Sunday’s protest will miss her club’s next two matches, with the remaining four games of her ban suspended for a year.
Her identity has been concealed by Telegraph Sport as she is a child and on the assessment pathway for autism.

If you can't make it then do your bit by writing to your MP and the Sports Minister and asking them why the FA is allowing unfair matches across the UK. If you wanted to played mixed sex football teams are available.

Always worth a reminder that Bobbi Gibb was the first woman to actually run the Boston Marathon:

That's fascinating! I knew about Kathrine Switzer but hadn't heard of Bobbi Gibb.

What a wonderful story!

Itdoesntendwellatall · 18/11/2024 22:59

I saw a woman wearing a t-shirt saying "Are you a man" in a hospital waiting room today.

I did wonder if it was linked to this. Then I wondered where I could get one.

Yay JKR. i saw the John Oliver clip earlier but didn't pay much attention, I thought it was from a while ago. Iirc, he finished his ill informed piece by telling his audience that female athletes should be worried about sexual predators instead 🤢😡. I could be wrong, I hope I am. If I am remembering correctly, that is what JKR is referencing.

“But if you’ve just told girls they don’t deserve fair sport, maybe rethink using all too real and common sexual predation against young women as a punchline for your ‘edgy’ closing joke.”

@NotBadConsidering The episode of Cautionary Tales that I mentioned talks about Bobby Gibb. It's a great listen.

@NotBadConsidering Thank you for the link to the bbc sport article. Really interesting.

BonfireLady · 19/11/2024 07:06

Yes, thank you from me too.

It's amazing how "facts" settle in the public consciousness. And quite apt for the topic in hand really, where if we repeat TWAW enough times that's apparently true too.

Great article in telegraph.

Why we must fight against FA’s and Gary Lineker’s silence over transgender scandal
Football has become the focus for the fight for fairness in women’s sport, so why are some of game’s biggest names refusing to speak out?

This scandal is only going to get bigger. If you haven't already please write to your MP demand action . Millions of government funding goes into local sport that means women's sport has to exist too.

Plus if you can check what is going on with your local women/girl's teams. The FA is engaging in a massive cover up. We only know the cases where the coverup failed there is a lot more going on for sure, possibly worse cases.

I used to really enjoy John Oliver when he was on The Daily Show, found his podcast with Andy Zaltsman funny, and I even enjoyed early series of his own late night show but I gave up watching years ago because I got tired of the lecturing tone he developed. I wanted actual facts with comedy but he gave the audience high speed SJW-approved lectures instead and wasn’t as balanced as he’d attempted to be in the past.

Maybe this case should be kicked back to Kick it Out? They do list sexism as one of the forms of discrimination they want to tackle...

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 20/11/2024 15:23

Just watched back that TalkSport interview. Jean is obviously a force of nature but the unequivocal support from the presenters was great to see too.

stickygotstuck · 20/11/2024 15:53

Thanks for the link OP, and to everyone else for the links & videos.

I was fuming when I heard about this girl's case and it's great to know that something is being done to throw let some more sunlight in.

Just watched back that TalkSport interview. Jean is obviously a force of nature but the unequivocal support from the presenters was great to see too.

The recent interview Jean did with two female presenters was less successful because both presenters kept bringing the discussion back to kindness rather than sporting ability.

Although, one of the female presenters said she used to play football with boys and she was fine (and didn’t get badly hurt) so she couldn’t understand why other girls wouldn’t feel the same way as her in the situation of mixed-sex sport.

Link to the interview is in the tweet below:

Wasn't it Kick It Out who reported the girl?

duc748 · 20/11/2024 20:29

Yes.

venuscat · 20/11/2024 21:55

I' am a middle age bloke who has been following this topic with interest.

I've heard both the interviews with Jean Hatchet and the Talk Sport male presenters (Danny.Murphy, Simon Jordan) and the interview this week with the two female presenters.

The male presenters were on the whole supportive of No males in female sports but the female presenters were IMO of the 'Be Kind Brigade'

My male perspective on this issue is that the majority of the male population are in support of Jean's position of No males in female sports.

However my perception is that the biggest barrier for Jean is winning over women to her position. There seems to be a larger percentage of women than men who are in the 'Be Kind group' or dont have an opinion on the issue.

And I say the above as a father of a daughter at University who thinks their father is a bit of a bigot.

Yes, I was suggesting her case could be passed back to them.
