Where TF is the Charity Commission report into Mermaids?

I know they are not renowned for being fast, but we must be coming up to two years now.

If, as we suspect, they are actively damaging children, this is two more years they have been allowed to do this.

If they see nothing wrong in handing out binders, pointing kids to Reddit, having nonce apologists on the Board and having staff members make incredibly graphic pornographic art, then that is two year of a shadow hanging over them unfairly, making fundraising really difficult.

Wha go'an?

Yep.

2 year investigation and the outcome is to amend info on puberty blockers and include parents on breast binders (even though giving them out isn't illegal either way, as mentioend by the Times article). There was mismanagement too as the charity grew rapidly but that's it. Mermaids are vindicated on all other accusations and the people who were claiming they were "giving surgical advice to children or encouraging them to have it" etc can now finally be quiet.

They aren’t “vindicated” as the process isn’t designed to do that. No complaints process ever is, in my experience.

What’s happened is that the Charity Commission has either somehow, or for some reason, ignored egregious and repeated safeguarding failures at Mermaids.

That does indeed make it a good news day for Mermaids but it signals the absolute worst outcome possible for children who have the misfortune to come into contact with them, the people they’ve trained, or their policies.

This outcome must not be the end of it. There must be a no-holds-barred inquiry or investigation into what happened such that we arrived here.

I'll include SSA’s response again in this post as they include a link to their site which sets out all the things that need to be properly examined: x.com/safeschools_uk/status/1849506565851693443?s=48&t=WHoOZ_3Kv5G6-FyQuvE0LQ

Yeah, 'mismanagement' resulting in employing a paedophile apologist as a trustee and having a volunteer who plasters porn pictures of his genitals all over the Internet.

As euphemisms go, 'mismanagement' is a corker.

I just can't wait for the undercover investigative journalism to start.

This is an excellent point. There'll be interviews with CC staff in future documentaries where we get to understand why nobody dared go past the euphemism of "mismanagement".
The investigative journalism will unfold in layers over the months and years.

I suppose one could say that Darren chap mismanaged his penis all over the internet.

😂😂😂
Perhaps the trustee mismanaged his timing when attending a conference for those of a minor-attracted persuasion? It does sound like woeful mismanagement to do that before leaving the organisation TBH. Surely better to wait until after you've resigned.

haha!

given what I remember of the optics, misanagement is a bloody understatement 😂

Not to mention posting confidential emails and, case overviews and general correspondence of the kids all over unsecured sites so trustees could read it.... For whatever purpose they might like to.

I think this too. Their days are numbered. They're considered a deeply controversial "charity" which is steeped in scandals. When we're asked for advice re a gender confused child, our public health based organisation never recommends parents talk with mermaids. Anyone but.

And yet CAMHS are still recommending Mermaids. A friend was recently signposted to them re their child. They had no idea about the investigation, scandals, and their testing to shut down LGBA. They, quite reasonably (unless you've been following this issue closely), believed that if CAMHS recommended it, they must be OK...

CAMHS don't care. If they can offload a kid it's one more off their books.
