Oh FFS 🤦‍♀️

itsbiblical · 26/11/2024 07:16

Jesus...I've seen it all now.

elgreco · 26/11/2024 07:19

Fuck that shit!

Oblomov24 · 26/11/2024 07:25

BB, after failing genre eligibility tests? So Mead , Earps, then BB?

This is a joke right?

puffyisgood · 26/11/2024 07:42

Yeah, the two highest scorers in the US women's league (by far the highest standard of women's football) were both male Semenya types - men are good at football, who knew.

Banda is a really fast runner, would in years gone by quite possibly have been an Olympic sprint medalist... Sebastian Coe's rules have blocked those contenders from women's athletics, but women's football has no such restrictions, it's the new go-to destination for men with DSD's who are looking to make a living from women's sport.

HaroldMeaker · 26/11/2024 07:49

Wtf

I don't even feel enraged anymore, just sick of it

Surf2Live · 26/11/2024 08:00

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c3e8d344vndo

you have to get to the bottom of this article to find out Banda "had undergone a gender verification test and had not met the criteria for the competition".

I'm so bloody sick of this.

HE failed the test because HE is a MAN.

I'm sick of the tests described vaguely with no explanation of the science. If they mention testosterone they NEVER mention that there is a huge gap between normal ranges for women (including upper edge for women with PCOS) and lower range for men. A HUGE gap exists, no man has testosterone in the womens range, and no woman even with elevated levels gets near the lowest level for men.

And if it's a chromosome test they never state that and they never state the results of it.

FFS.

He looks like a man. If I were a black woman I'd be pretty pissed off at this. I'd be wondering why the increasing number of black MEN in women's sport are passed off as women and we're all supposed to look at them and say "oh but they could be women" when they clearly look like men. TRAs are trying to say black women look masculine ffs. I would think that's bloody racist IMO.

Barbra Banda

in fairness to the BBC that is quite a bit of text discussing the issue.

Iwishihadariver · 26/11/2024 08:31

Yes, the BBC article is trying hard to do "but also.." Banda meanwhile wants to "focus on my career and the charity that I do back home in Zambia with a lot of people in the community" and conveniently ignore the past.

Ha ha! Excellent typo. I wonder what genre it is? The phrase 'first as tragedy, second as farce' comes to mind.

QuietlyStorming · 26/11/2024 09:03

Feeling despondent and a bit helpless after hearing this. Knowing it was a public vote makes it even harder to process. Are we really so surrounded by people who lack critical thinking at best or harbour so much misogyny at worst?

I wish there were a way I could fight this sh*t without putting myself or loved ones in harm’s way (because we’ve seen what the TRAs are like) but I don’t really feel smart or brave enough yet.

borntobequiet · 26/11/2024 09:04

Well…sunlight and all that, especially in the light if the fallout from the US election.

Man voted as best woman’s footballer - what a surprise!

Still sunlight…. Always sunlight

Who voted on these things?? I didn't even know it was a public vote. If it was only publicised on the BBC, then the only people using it are genderists and drag queens 😉 so it's not surprising he won a public vote really....

Man win's women's award. Again.

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 26/11/2024 12:24

The testosterone clearly has [had] a huge impact on her. Pity there aren’t enough high testosterone [people] to form their own teams and play their own matches.

(The above comment only lightly adapted from a serious (?) btl comment on the DM.)

I did. Trouble is, an anti-Banda vote was obviously split between the other contenders.

kiterunning · 26/11/2024 15:33

I tried to get a single opposition vote going but a lot of people had different views so I had a feeling this would happen.
We must coordinate better in future.

Harassedevictee · 26/11/2024 18:25

@puffyisgood BBC have removed the background.
