This programme is irritating beyond belief, trans propaganda on steroids!

Love Scarlett.

Could be worse - my eyes nearly rolled right out of my head at this week's Law and Order: SVU, which was beating you over the head with "PARENTS! ACCEPT YOUR TRANS CHILDREN!" thing again.

Well in fairness, her facial expressions throughout 'ran the whole gamut of the emotions, from A to B..' [Dorothy Parker, if I remember rightly]

I'd have cherished a put down from her!

When she was offended by the amount of money a producer offered her to write a script: “You can’t take it with you, and even if you did, it would probably melt.”

Well, going against the grain, I think trans storylines are necessary given all the transphobia around.

Can you define what you mean by transphobia? Sometimes people seem to think it includes pointing out that as mammals we are very good at knowing which of the two sexes an individual belongs to, and using the appropriate pronouns for that sex.

Around where?

Scutterbug · 10/10/2024 19:22

Around in general. I follow my local Pride page for example. Whenever they post there are awful transphobic and homophobic posts on their posts. I have a family member who is trans and a good friend who is trans and both have received some awful comments, fortunately both have families who are very supportive. I think Doctors are challenging the “everyone who is trans has a MHissue” belief. FWIW, both the trans people I know are so much happier now, being unable to express themselves prior to transitioning caused them significant MH issues at the time.

Dumbo12 · 10/10/2024 19:29

In my opinion and experience, the idea that one is the opposite sex to the sex of your body, it's a mental health issue, in and of itself.

It's not the support of trans people that gets me annoyed. It's the conflation of trans phobia with homophobia. And in the case of the Doctors scriptwriters, the lumping of gender critical in with trans phobia AND homophobia. And in Graham's case the treatment of Kirsty and being an all round misogynistic tool. When you slip a reasonable gender critical or women's safety comment into that toxic lot, it takes on the taint. At least I assume that's the intention.
Oh and please don't make the lazy assumption that those of us who are GC don't know and love any trans, non binary or gay people.

eleanorwish · 10/10/2024 22:57

I was watching an old episode of Modern Family and the gay couple were falling over themselves to be inclusive when finding out the playmate of their 7 year old daughter was a transgirl

Grammarnut · 17/10/2024 12:24

My DD won't watch Bridgerton - she says it's stupid. Afaik it's also sexist and racist but there you go. DD is mixed-heritage.

It was painful watching. Ironically, I found Graham quite sensible. Its the whole rolling it up with LGB that really winds me up!

I found Graham utterly sensible. He knew exactly what he was saying. Is there a secret terf writing the script?

What transphobia? No-one is against people living as they wish. Pointing out biological reality (as did Graham in relevant episode) is not transphobic - it's life saving.

Love Emma, glad she is back.

Me too.

Great 2-parter with her and Al.

MissEsmeWatson · 18/10/2024 23:36

And just when you think all is lost... The two parter "An Inspector Calls" style story about depression was brilliant, I thought.

AyrshireTryer · 19/10/2024 07:24

Just caught up on that.
Very good.
