This programme is irritating beyond belief, trans propaganda on steroids!

Is that what it was? I was channel-hopping to a news programme, and saw a few minutes of some insufferably po-faced child lecturing her father that she was not actually NB, she had actually always been a man, while tearful Mum begged him to listen to 'him'..
I didn't linger for any more. I must say that the trans character was very unlikeable, I don't know if many viewers would have thought 'Aww what a sweet child, and so literally oppressed!'
But as I say, I just saw a few minutes of it...
I don't want to know how it finished, I doubt if ended up with the teen singing 'I am woman hear me roar' with Mum, and Dad accompanying them on the ukulele..🙄

Sounds ghastly. Is this programme part of a secret government initiative to discourage people from working from home?

CautiousLurker · 09/10/2024 15:34

No wonder it’s been axed… that will be a result of falling viewing figures, I reckon. The PR says that figures remain steady, but the BBC acknowledges that its daytime viewing figures have dropped by as much to 15% in recent years. Understand they were 2.04m in May this year, but now average at 1.6m. Clearly too woke for its target audience who have had enough of the daily lectures disguised as entertainment (with poor scripts, sub-par acting, and tedious plot-lines).

Bring back Father Brown - at least that had beautiful cars and costumes!

As part of the retired population, I sometimes end up watching this if I have a late lunch. Some of their "campaigns " have been not bad, if a little simplistic, but their take on "trans" and those who have not drunk the coolaid is woeful. The equating of not believing in people being able to change sex with homophobia, really wound me up today!

Am not quite retired - fifties with 2 teens at home (yep and one who trans IDd at 12) - but used to like watching when finishing up housework before the school runs. Am fed up with being force-fed this stuff - I’m happy to chose to watch HeartStopper or Bridgerton (neither BBC) if I feel like it, as their ‘message’ is clearly advertised and I know what I’m buying into, but fed up with so-called ‘woke’ narratives being slipped covertly into everything I watch.

God, I sound so old…

I've had to be very restrained on the Doctors thread as we try to stay non political on it.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 09/10/2024 16:20

This is the second episode I've switched off this week. It's outrageous propaganda. All the younger staff are the cool ones who "get" pronouns. It's quite literally unbelievable. Doctors was always my guilty pleasure when I got home after a half-day. Now I'm thanking the stars above that they are pulling the plug.

MissEsmeWatson · 09/10/2024 16:22

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one! The last one I watched seemed to think that a young woman sexually abused by her stepfather needs - guess what - a hug from a man in a dress to make her feel better 😱 I'm hoping that they're just taking the piss because they've been cancelled.

DanaBarrett · 09/10/2024 16:23

It was painful watching. Ironically, I found Graham quite sensible. Its the whole rolling it up with LGB that really winds me up!

AyrshireTryer · 09/10/2024 16:28

Great to see Emma back.

MonCoeur · 09/10/2024 16:36

It used to be my guilty pleasure as someone who works from home but they've really ramped up the telling-you-what to-think storylines lately and more often than not they'll be about trans issued. They even had a poor grandad being berated for not being onboard with his grandson's furry lifestyle a while ago!

Credit where credit is due though. Fair play to the actor playing Jane/Jay. Said "I'm a man" with a straight face.

😄Well in fairness, her facial expressions throughout 'ran the whole gamut of the emotions, from A to B..' [Dorothy Parker, if I remember rightly]

AlexandraLeaving · 09/10/2024 18:40

Doctors is one of my guilty pleasure. Or was until I became aware of quite how acutely misogynist it was, and how middle aged women were invariably the villains of each episode. As with so many things, once you see it you can’t unsee it, The absurdity of the recent wokery really confirms why it should be shelved.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/10/2024 18:57

Doctors has been socially engineering about gender identity for a very long time. The linked storyline was just before the introduction of the GRA in 2004 (episode was in 2003). Apparently the female actress is now in Emmerdale, with another trans storyline.

Scutterbug · 09/10/2024 19:04

Well, going against the grain, I think trans storylines are necessary given all the transphobia around.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/10/2024 19:20

How about Furry storylines? They've had those too.

Freda69 · 09/10/2024 19:27

Doctors is my guilty post lunch pleasure for the retired here, but this transgender storyline is the pits. ‘Stepping outside the gender stereotypes’ - girls should be able to do anything they like these days from swimming the channel to train driving to nuclear physics. Graham is an obnoxious dinosaur and the ‘daughter’ came out with every bit of gender garbage the scriptwriters could think of.
To be fair, in the past Doctors has covered much more sensible storylines from rape to bereavement to fostering to Alzheimer’s and also fun stuff like Christmas pantomimes to Jane Austen weeks to the Commonwealth Games. It’s also provided starting employment for actors, lighting technicians, camera people and writers etc, so it’s quite a shame it’s stopping.
I believe it has the highest daytime viewers for any programme except the news.

I tried to watch Doctors (way back decades ago) but I'm a Diagnosis Murder woman meself because Dr Mark & Co aren't quite so preachy.

tobee · 09/10/2024 23:49

Is Doctors using trainee young writers on a BBC scheme? Sort of thing they used to do I believe.

Loved that show, even if I was always half expecting Dr Mark to leap into a tap dance and start singing in a really bad cockney accent. In every episode! 🤣

Yeah, there’s always that worry with Dick Van Dyke 😂😂

I love Doctors. I'm sorry it's been cancelled.Sad
