"I wish I knew whether the high profile GCs who have a political and policy background and a level of legal knowledge, and yet repeatedly use mantras such as ‘sex based rights’ and ‘GC beliefs as protected’ are wilfully engaging in disinformation practices or are wildly ignorant.

The first is shocking and the latter pitiful. I’m not thinking about the shock jocks and grifters such as KJM, but GCs with a policy, research and/or academic role. Do they make things up knowingly or get things very wrong?

I’m not talking about theoretical or political understandings or perspectives which are to be invested and believed in - or not. But substantive factors. For eg, whether or not there should be ‘sex based rights’ is an opinion, a normative question.

Stating that these rights exist though is wrong. And this is why there is so little GC research published in academic journals. It’s not silencing, it’s incoherence and falsehoods. The ideal public arena for GC thought is the shock, and tease, tabloid opinion pieces.

But if one wants to be active in research, policy…

You really can’t go around just making things up and get a reputable publication. You can fool the Tories and you can be used by the far right, but you can’t get past Reviewer 2"

Is she fucking stupid?

What would be a short hand term for the enforceable right not to be discriminated against on the basis of one's sex?

Yeah right Lisa, a wonderful, magical animal right, hahaha!

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 20/09/2024 18:08

she's such fun

I tend to run on the working assumption that she's using the internet while pissed

DworkinWasRight · 20/09/2024 18:12

spannasaurus · 20/09/2024 17:07

I think I've seen it argued that the Equality Act doesn't give you rights only protection from discrimination hence there are no sex based rights. The usual linguistic slight of hand.

In that case, what do these people mean when they bang on about “trans rights”?

She might want to read Jo Phoenix's thread.

"Is she fucking stupid?"

I have yet to see any evidence to the contrary.

FranticFrankie · 21/09/2024 10:48

I read this woman’s words in complete disbelief. I just can’t believe she’s serious.
One of her replies to a poster asking if she has qualifications- ‘Er, I’m a Professor’ !!!
Professing carp I guess

quantumbutterfly · 21/09/2024 11:30

I read her little diatribes...

if someone is a trans exclusionary feminist they will almost certainly have anti-sex work and anti-porn politics - and vice versa. The constant is a denial of body autonomy and a feminism that insists it knows what is best for other women (even when told otherwise).

Gender Critical’ people are renaming themselves. They are now ‘Gender Free’. This is the equivalent of white people who don’t see race or the middle class who think we live in a classless society. Funny how people in positions of privilege never want to name power dynamics.

I think it broke my irony meter.

It was only a matter of time before the trans ideologues defined belief in sex as a luxury belief.

nauticant · 21/09/2024 20:07

Listening to the radio just now, I learned that Barry Hines wrote the astonishing and horrifying Threads:

i have never worked out how me being anti sex-work in most cases isn't supporting the bodily autonomy of women trafficked into that who don't want to do it.

I'd forgotten Barry Hines wrote Threads. Maybe that's why he nuked Sheffield.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 21/09/2024 21:24

SinnerBoy · 20/09/2024 14:49

I was very kind and helpful, I posted this link:

https://www.lewissilkin.com/en/insights/gender-critical-beliefs-in-the-workplace

... and advised Sally to read it, so's not to make such a fool of herself in future.

Most thoughtful of you.

It's almost as if Sally is too privileged to appreciate the power dynamic.....

Igmum · 25/09/2024 08:18

Maybe it's a typo? She typed GC when what she meant to say was everyone who is sane lawyers?

uncutdiamonds · 25/09/2024 09:23

DialSquare · 20/09/2024 17:32

It appears the biscuit taker from earlier has been usurped!

This is actually what scares me. The replies/comments are pretty much the same as replies you would expect in THIS forum. But arguing for the complete opposite. It's the same on the transgender forum on Reddit. It makes you think people on both sides are the same, except they have somehow received slightly different information. Or are they just being completely obnoxious on purpose by being blind to actual facts like sex is real?

holiverterwist · 25/09/2024 09:36

No, they copy our arguments because they copy everything about us (but without the brains to back it up).

And yes, Sally is as thick as mince.

😂Which means that they're convinced by the arguments but don't like the answer??

I would get a headache from doing that much mental gymnastics. (assuming there is any)

holiverterwist · 25/09/2024 10:05

Think of them as parrots. There is no mental gymnastics.

I think the EA2010 enacts human rights to privacy, dignity and safety, and also (for women) the rights conferred by CEDAW.
IANAL, though.

Edited for typo in date.

It's a tactic to make it harder for the general public to understand what is going on.

and I think because Sal is so well cushioned she essentially lives in a consequence free world. she can say mad shit, and to her it doesn't really matter what happens next, either to her or to other people.

so if you've got a certain sort of personality, why not think 'do you know what, I'm going to see what I can get away with here?'

I genuinely think, whether she realises it or not, that lies behind a lot of her frankly bizarre utterances

StainlessSteelMouse · 20/09/2024 16:59

I can never quite believe that Sally Hines is real, and not a Titania McGrath type character invented to make online wokelords look stupid.

Agreed! Especially after seeing JKR's takedown! I hate to say it but I've met some incredibly dipshit academics. They get dazzled by all the egos, the poor lambs. Specialising is not a protection from being a bit fucking thick at times.

FranticFrankie · 30/11/2024 19:22

Wtaf Amnesty International??
Blah blah ’acquired gender’ therefore that person becomes the SEX ??????
Dear Lord give me strength
