I hate it when they name a law after a woman. Domestic abuse specialists in 999 rooms.

You just know when you hear it that there's some horrible MVAWG story behind it. Every time.

'Domestic abuse specialists will be embedded in 999 control rooms in England and Wales as part of the government's pledge to halve violence against women and girls in a decade.
The measure is part of "Raneem's Law" in memory of Raneem Oudeh, 22, and her mother Khaola Saleem who were murdered by Ms Oudeh's estranged husband in 2018.
The government also announced a new domestic abuse protection order pilot that will order more abusers to stay away from victims and impose tougher sanctions if they fail to do so.'

Let's hope this has impact.

And still nobody will talk about the root of the problem.

Why do so many boys grow up to be men who are so ready to abuse and terrorise women.

All of these after the event "solutions" are effectively saying it will always happen, so as we cant stop it, we just need to provide a patchwork of post abuse help.

Her aunt (whose sister was also murdered) said it brought great comfort to the family, that the law was named after her. She actively campaigned for this law.

Apparently reducing VAWG by 50% will be a marvellous achievement. Not much comfort for the other 50%.

I mentioned this in a thread during the run up to the election and was chastised by several posters because "at least Labour are planning to do something about it*, and "we have to be realistic". There's something about it that really bothers me though. Like it's accepted that there will always be VAWG, it's just the way things are.

Yes. As if a certain number of rapes and murders is acceptable. It is horrifying when you realise this.

Yes. It's crass to say the least to put a number on it. Careless, I suppose. But it does smack of managing a problem rather than confronting the utter horror of it.

Imagine a suggestion of halving the murder rate in the next two years.
