what has changed regarding women's rights and trans rights?

I was just sat thinking how much progress has been made for women over the last decade or so, with regards to this. I know there is still a long way to go and some serious issues. I thought it would be nice to have a thread of what has actually changed to our benefit.

so a couple of things that I think have helped tremendously are;

  1. Maya Forstater wining her case and enshrining Gender Critical as a legitimate belief. this has given me the legal safety net to speak up at work to protect our changing rooms and toilets and about the use of pronouns. have found many people agreeing with me

  2. The Cass Report, which has put a stop to the Tavistock and I think it helped Suzy Green on her way out of Mermaids (that may be inaccurate though)

what things do you think have made a real material difference?

no no no! @poppyzbrite4 you did not understand the assignment! 😁 I want to collate the change that have happened, that have materially made a difference. things definitely ARE different from 10 years ago and I'm interested to see how those changes have been made

not another depressing thread of everything that we haven't changed 😭

I know but I'm really pissed off. Excuse my rant.

ok, so the international Boxing Association have definitely recognised the issue and don't allow men to box women. THE IOC, don't. do you know other sports orgs who have now prevented men competing against women. did the cycling move to protect women, I forget? and swimming??🤔

Cycling, swimming, rowing, athletics, rugby, boxing ... there's been an avalanche of them in the past year or so.

The rules aren't perfect - still too many based on testosterone suppression rather than no male puberty, and often the world body has seen sense but not all national ones have followed suit. But it is a huge improvement on the previous free for all.

Many grassroots groups & organisations set up including Sex Matters, Transgender Trend, Genspect, LGBA, WRN, ForWomen Scotland, sadly not KPSS anymore, groups to support parents, Let Women Speak, Party of Women, Women's Place UK, Detransitioners Network, Transwidows' Voices, Free Speech Union, etc.

I love seeing all the groups setting up and I've been to some interesting meetings/talks BUT have they materially changed anything? I mean they have spread awareness and so indirectly affected change but do you know if/how they have changed something

I think Fair Play for Women produced some really good research and fact sheets on Prisons for example and the biological differences between sexes. I have definitely used them as evidence in the workplace. what has been the focus of the other groups, if beyond spreading awareness?

The beginnings of greater public awareness, with images/lunacy to hook stories on. For which, among others, we should thank our fellow sex-binary mammals: support dogs and (not, actually) gender-fluid dachshunds.

Another vote for the SEEN networks. I had to raise something with someone I do contact work with and, while he’s a decent spud, was a bit apprehensive about it in case he was in the woke camp. Such a relief seeing him wearing a SEEN lanyard and knowing we could have a frank discussion that did not dance around the issues.

I also think there is increasing awareness that we are no longer talking about being accommodating and compassionate to a tiny number of very vulnerable (& arguably mentally ill) gender dysphoric transsexuals or people with DSDs but are now expected to participate in others’ kink and adopt quasi-religious beliefs without question. And that “transitioning” is not a physical act involving any body modification necessarily - I think Isla Bryson helped with that.

Contract not contact!

They've done loads between them yes. Support groups, networking, and awareness is not nothing!

Outwith policy and law there is the rather enormous and somewhat hard to quantify matter of social attitudes and preference and belief.

Some might say the latter precedes the former. It certainly has huge impact.

I didn't notice mean to undermine what they were doing at all, I think it's been brilliant. but I was talking about quantifiable stuff....or at least a direct link, like a lobbying/targeted campaign to get a specific change enacted. does that make sense?

Nicola sturgeon getting her arse handed to her on a plate by ordinary women who organised and refused to wheesht.

She went from hero to zero in the flash of a merkin and a penis poking out a pair of leggings because of all the work that had already been done by For Women Scotland, MBM and Scottish Feminists, to name a few.

I think that had an impact on some political people far beyond Scotland, some of them, the smart ones, realised women are not going to give up rights without a fight.
