Agree re Operation Let Them Speak. I just kept imagining ordinary lefty Canadians who have been indoctrinated watching this great big man telling a woman what she must believe, and having a sudden, jolting realisation that they might in fact be on the wrong side of history.

My issue is not so much that I feel a burning need to say trans women are men, and more that I feel a burning need to not accept for myself a definition of Woman as a mental state that includes both male people and me.

It might seem like splitting hairs but I think it's really important. I'm not motivated by mean urge to deny someone something trivial, I'm motivated by the existential need not to give away my own self definition.

I'm OK with kind white lies like "no your bum looks fine in that dress" that are only lies about the person's reality. If TWAW was that sort of a lie I'd have no issue being kind.

The issue with TWAW is that it is a lie not just about trans women but about every single woman (female person)'s reality.

It is the lie that the thing that makes men and women different is how they think not the bodies they have.

It is the lie that our minds just happen to come out different and it's nothing to do with how society treats us due to our sex.

It is the lie that our body sex has no impact on our lives but whether we think as a man or a woman does.

It is abhorrent than anyone would believe a man's need to hear he is a woman is more worthy of respect than a woman's need for her own reality.

It's a deliberate absurdity.

It's a deliberate lie.

It's the attempt to coerce someone to recite the catechism when we all know it's not true that is the problem.

The issue isn't the erstwhile belief/fact/statement, the issue is the forcing someone to mouth a known lie.

It's pure power play. It only works because it's a lie.

And in this video, the power play is laid out very, very clearly.

The man tries to force the woman to state her submission.

She refuses.

The man denounces her, and details how he will punish her.

Again, 'gender' or 'TWAW' or whatever are the maguffins.

The key is the person with power forcing the person without power to submit.

That's why the hackles of virtually every person who recognises coercion go straight up when they watch that clip.

It's a perfect example of 'Let them speak'.

I so badly wish that were so. Sadly I know Canadians who started out as sex realists but have gradually succumbed to the Borg. Really upsetting to realise how easily intelligent people can be persuaded to buy into the unthinkable.
