We should just rename this part of MN Cassandra corner!

i mean what did we fucking say??

KerryBlues · 12/09/2024 17:05

Who didn’t see that coming? 🤦‍♀️

KerryBlues · 12/09/2024 17:05

Encouraging that it has, though

murasaki · 12/09/2024 17:07

Haha. Good. It won't stop idiots using them though and fudging the boundaries between official and accredited official.

My mum used to call me that, I could see every disaster coming a mile off.
Did it make her listen to me? Did it heck.

Chersfrozenface · 12/09/2024 17:21

To quote Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory "I so informed you thusly."

334bu · 12/09/2024 17:27

They were all telt!

Helleofabore · 12/09/2024 17:32

Oh what a surprise!!!

My boss used to call me the office Cassandra. After about year 2 he started listening as it all came true....

Helleofabore · 12/09/2024 17:39

So, thanks to their very own campaigning and their reaction to the census, the UK population who identify as transgender is still unknown and may be so minuscule that all this attention and support they receive is completely disproportionate to other more vulnerable population groups.

ditalini · 12/09/2024 17:41

But..but.. they had "good intentions" 🤔

No you didn't. You were virtue signalling, got caught out, and damaged your professional reputation by pandering to a very loud special interest group.

Grrrr, while pleased for your eventual recognition, I am still hopping mad
she never did. I cannot tell you how much unnessecary pain could have been avoided.😡

Kucinghitam · 12/09/2024 17:45

And yet again, MNers have to <facepalm> and shout "We fucking told you so!"

Tbf a large proportion of Twitter did too.
Stiff emails were also sent...lol

MarieDeGournay · 12/09/2024 17:50

Nobody every called me Cassandra, but I've often been called Pollyanna, and guilty as charged cos this news makes me feel a bit like this is happening:

@ONS census figures lose status as official statistics.
duc748 · 12/09/2024 17:51

It's like critical thinking just goes right out the window. But that's what happens when your starting-point is a nonsense. As @ditalini points out, they are not the innocent victims here.

CatChant · 12/09/2024 17:52

No shit Sherlock.

DayOfWreckoning · 12/09/2024 21:52

The Guardian story on this quotes Michael Biggs. And Kathleen Stock. Well I never.

Nancy Kelly. Adding 2 + 2 and coming up with 5.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 22:14

Michael Biggs, a professor of sociology at Oxford University, said the admission of error was “long overdue” and called for the question to be rewritten where it is used in other official data gathering.

“The same question is used in the GP patient survey, and has been used to claim that trans people are more likely to suffer from dementia. This result could easily be an artefact of the bad question– older immigrants with poorer English are more likely to misunderstand the question and more likely to have dementia,” he said. “So there are very real consequences of this flawed question.”

'Trans people are more likely to suffer dementia' is a quote that could easily be misattributed and misused I feel.

Absolutely!

Chersfrozenface · 13/09/2024 10:05

I don't doubt that "trans population may be smaller than first thought" will be either excused as "many trans people too terrified to come out" or utilised for the "most marginalised minority" line.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/09/2024 10:20

So what is the new figure we are supposed to use if 262k is incorrect?
