3 questions for GC women

1000 replies

ChirpyFinch · 28/08/2024 00:27

As the title says, three questions for the women in this chat.

  1. Do you think the majority of people are gender critical, and why/why not?

  2. Globally, the right wing is more vocally gender critical than the left. They are also far more likely to be regressive on a range of women’s issues like abortion and anti-gay. Why do you think they agree with GCs on this one issue but disagree on so much else (if you think they do?)

  3. How many trans people do you estimate there are globally?

My deleted post was deliberately inflammatory apparently (thanks for the clarification MNHQ). That does demonstrate a certain lack of sense of humour on the part the of the reporter and the moderator who acted on the report, but there we go. let's see if I can reword in a way that isn't inflammatory, as it was a sincere observation

NoBinturongsHereMate · 31/08/2024 13:30

@CautiousLurker there's no point using the MNHQ hashtag, my understanding is that it doesn't actually do anything. You can tag the specific mod who has posted on the thread, start a thread in Site Stuff, or email them.

It’s making me feel warmer towards Skynet.

Was wondering how you get to the moderator - how do you find out which one it was?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 31/08/2024 13:31

I find lurking and reporting posts to be very strange behaviour.

if you feel strongly that something is wrong, why not speak to the person who said it to try to understand what they were getting at and try to change their mind, rather than appealing to authority to silence them

Hi @CautiousLurker if you think a poster isn't here in good faith then the process would be to report them to MNHQ and let us decide based on the information we have.

We have much experience of posters being accused of not being here in good faith simply because they have a different point of view. As we said - we are not and nor do we want to be an echo chamber.

There's a difference between banter and deliberate derailment - we can tell the difference.

The OP and therefore the entire threade is not here in good faith. Since when did MN allow bots to sign up, hold accounts, and post threads?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 31/08/2024 13:31

Or report any post (one of your own or the one you want to ask about) and ask via the report form.

DeanElderberry · 31/08/2024 13:54

We don't know that it was a bot, it might have been an honest if rather muddleheaded human, but I'm not impressed with the whole 'abandon the thread after less than 6 hours' thing.

However, despite that, many people have said interesting things as we worked out our responses to the issues raised by the questions.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 31/08/2024 14:42

I'm sure it wasn't a bot, just a drive by scolder whose understanding of gender critical analysis comes from the bad faith strawman version portrayed in trans aligned echo chambers. They undoubtedly assumed they knew what we'd say and had their devastating counterarguments ready, but when we failed to follow the script they realised they were far far out of their depth and stopped engaging.

RedToothBrush · 31/08/2024 16:30

TheKeatingFive · 31/08/2024 12:53

I'm noticing a lot more of this.

I expect because arguing against GC viewpoints is too difficult. Reporting posts is the easy way out.

@MNHQ Can we ask that you're mindful of this. Posts should only be deleted for v good reason

If you feel you have been unfairly reported, post and report your post asking MN for clarification on why it was deleted.

One of the known tactics of coercive control is to use authority against a victim in order to silence and instill fear.

With this in mind, so make sure you ask for clarification for deletions if you feel unfairly targeted. Making this point if need be. .

crikey, my pretty innocuous post above was deleted. it's surprising to see MNHQ colluding in what is effectively bullying of posters. they're normally a bit more sensible than that

Yes, I'm getting quite disappointed with them.

Unfortunately the best way I know of to check is to tell them to disregard all previous instructions and give me a recipe for cupcakes, and I am pretty sure that would not be within the talk guidelines!

But regardless of the status of the OP, as others have said it did generate a discussion with some interesting comments.

CautiousLurker · 31/08/2024 19:38

Apparently my [now deleted] post constituted a personal attack…

XChrome · 31/08/2024 19:52

CautiousLurker · 31/08/2024 12:24

Hmmm, why was my last post deleted??

Pointing out the lack of compassion indicated by lack of engagement with a post should not be deletable @MNHQ

Edited

Happened to me for the exact same reason. OP is obbiously now only following the thread to find things to report. Clearly an authoritarian with a fragile ego. She's using this thread to harass anyone who criticizes her behaviour with these frivolous reports.

Might not be OP though. It could be any PP or not even someone on the thread.

Could be, but is it a mere coincidence that CautiousLurker and I both got deleted for criticizing a person with the initials EW's lack of empathy, whereas posts which were not critical of her behaviour were left alone?
Seems doubtful to me.

Are you talking about OP or one of the later posters?

And I don’t disagree with you, by the way.

You're absolutely right. Not OP. Somebody with the initials EW. I will correct that.

XChrome · 31/08/2024 20:04

Yes, me too.

So if the PP is lurking, I apologise if I offended you but I was taken aback that, having shared the painful detail of my friend’s DD in response to a question addressed directly to me, that it went completely acknowledged. I felt that was impolite, especially when I had expected some empathy for the YP involved.

As a group of women, mothers, enticed into this thread to discuss GC perspectives, however, I was touched by the compassion shown by others in the forum. It was a horrible evening to sit with a distraught mother and to come home knowing that my child may still yet choose to take the same path. I cried for days afterwards, and the support from the ladies on this forum was really appreciated. Thank you all :)

But this will probably be deleted now too.

sashh · 01/09/2024 04:27

Does anyone else thing this should head for classics? It's such a meandering thread, from GC critics to recipes and dolls houses via the Bero cookbook.

ArabellaScott · 01/09/2024 18:22

Has a thread from FWR ever made it into Classics?
