Surely this has to be the point at which something is done to safeguard the female athletes and women’s sports?

Wishful thinking? I’m sure it will be swept aside - as science, biology and XX people are bigoted and irrelevant.

‘Ban them now’: XY boxers have 162 per cent more power

International Boxing Association has sensationally accused the IOC of corruption, confirming XY athletes Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting have male biology and should be banned from the Paris Games.

I don't know why we're arguing about the definition of 'woman' when the IOC have made it perfectly clear that, as far as they're concerned, it means having an 'F' on your passport.

Except they're women

Oh has this been confirmed then? Did they agree to do a test and share the results? I missed the breaking news

That is true. That means the lovely Barbie Kardashian could compete in female categories as BK has a GRC and so is legally female.

I think that's the most shocking part of this whole thing.

Leaving these two athletes aside - I had no idea the only criteria was being female on passports. This isn't the case in other sports (Semenya for example has to take medication to lower testosterone levels in order to compete in middle distance running). But in the Olympics there's less regulation around a sport like boxing? Where it's not just fairness, but safety as well that's the issue?

It would appear so. There's an IOC statement, that I think they released on Saturday, confirming that was all they used.

Edited for typo

Here's the statement I was talking about. I think the most salient part is this:
'As with previous Olympic boxing competitions, the gender and age of the athletes are based on their passport.'
