Surely this has to be the point at which something is done to safeguard the female athletes and women’s sports?

Wishful thinking? I’m sure it will be swept aside - as science, biology and XX people are bigoted and irrelevant.

‘Ban them now’: XY boxers have 162 per cent more power

International Boxing Association has sensationally accused the IOC of corruption, confirming XY athletes Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting have male biology and should be banned from the Paris Games.

The Courier striking to the heart of the issue again. Thanks Spinach.

Thanks op.

Khelif and Yu-Ting were disqualified by the IBA from last year’s world championships for failing sex tests. Despite that ruling, the IOC has allowed the duo to fight at these Olympics because they are listed as women on their passports.

I think that might be the best two-sentence summary I've seen of this whole shameful debacle.

Thank you Spinach !

The News Ltd has the best paywalls in the world I reckon.

Why are other papers not reporting this?

MarieDeGournay · 06/08/2024 09:25

IF there's any truth in the BBC website's reporting of the IBA news conference, and yes that's 'IF' in capitals, but some of the reporting is checkable - the IBA weren't exactly convincing, with one of them saying the tests were for testosterone and the other saying no they weren't they were for chromosomes.. Not very convincing or useful, especially as the dodginess of the IBA is a well-established fact, not a 'slur'.

WADA are saying they didn't do the tests as they only test for drugs, so who did the tests on Khelif and Lin? what tests? how verifiable?

I think the best we can take from all this is that the IBA, for all their faults, cast so much doubt on the eligibility of these boxers that the IOC should have taken action before they were allowed to participate in the women's competition.
It's hard for anyone to argue with that, and it makes the pro-Russian/corrupt/whatever accusations against the IBA irrelevant, and puts the heat back where it belongs: on the IOC.

Snowypeaks · 06/08/2024 09:26

Thanks for the article , @StealthSpinach

I hope they follow through on the threat to open a prosecution against Bach. If this goes to court, it will all be public.

The photo is very telling though. An obviously male person.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2024 13:06

I guess they know full well, but it's more "how terrible that people are talking about it, the IOC should have thought about that possibility"

Glamourreader · 06/08/2024 13:13

Funny how they're not volunteering to take another test to prove themselves female if the first tests were so unreliable

Why are other papers not reporting this?

Because a lot of those reporting are the sports commentators and they are already of the opinion that there isn't an issue and just the IBA with a chip on its shoulder.

But far worse ( Grin ) the press conference was "chaotic", sound systems didn't work, and somehow this confirmed in the reporters minds that the IBA are just a bunch of uninportant people presuming to think they are important! And are Russian stooges Confused

As usual Reduxx have attempted to cover the issue:

REDUXX

Yesterday, the International Boxing Association held a press conference addressing the concerns surrounding Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-Ting. 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘹𝘹 has created a supercut of relevant sections.

TIMESTAMPS:

𝟬𝟬:𝟮𝟯 - Both boxers had the ability to appeal their disqualification at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with IBA covering the majority of their legal costs.

𝟬𝟮:𝟰𝟵 - The International Olympic Committee knew that Lin and Khelif were male, but did nothing.

𝟬𝟯:𝟮𝟬 - Both the Algerian and Taiwanese Olympic Committees have refused to allow IBA to release the results of the tests.

𝟬𝟯:𝟱𝟬 - "Read between the lines."

𝟬𝟳:𝟬𝟮 - Dr. Filippatos: "The biological world does not change."

𝟭𝟬:𝟰𝟬 - A ringside examination of Lin and Khelif in 2022 prompted a blood examination to seek answers about their karyotype.

𝟭𝟭:𝟮𝟬 - "Women's category must be only women."

𝟭𝟯:𝟰𝟬 - Question from a journalist regarding why the IBA waited until 2023 to disqualify Lin and Khelif.

𝟭𝟱:𝟱𝟬 - "The safety of the boxers comes as the first and most important rule."

𝟭𝟵:𝟰𝟬 - "It's not discrimination, it's just the rules."

𝟮𝟮:𝟮𝟬 - Lin and Khelif are biologically male.

𝟮𝟯:𝟯𝟬 - The women's category must be defined by those who have a female karyotype (XX).

𝟮𝟯:𝟰𝟬 - Question from a journalist on "Russian disinformation campaigns."

𝟮𝟱:𝟬𝟱 - Lin and Khelif were reported by other boxers and coaches. They were subjected to two tests in two different countries for certainty.

𝟮𝟱:𝟮𝟬 - "There is no conspiracy theory." Again reiterating that Algeria and Taiwan will not allow the IBA to release the results of the tests.

𝟮𝟱:𝟰𝟲 - Question from a journalist asking why Lin and Khelif were only disqualified after their failed chromosomal tests rather than suspended.

𝟮𝟲:𝟯𝟮 - Question from a journalist on the "timing" of the press conference.

𝟮𝟴:𝟮𝟬 -"If the athletes want to prove they were born women, they have to do it themselves. They didn't do that."

They also have a video but all of this is only on twitter/X https://x.com/ReduxxMag/status/1820820467231690838

And yet the Algerian boxer still lost...

And your point is?

You do know that simply being male does not mean that you will beat all women? A mediocre male is quite likely to lose to an excellent woman.

The issues are:

  1. These two males took two females places in the olympics.
  2. Average male strength is much higher than average female strength, giving these males an unfair advantage and putting the females they are fighting at risk.
  3. It's a female category. That means males should not be competing in it, regardless of talent or lack thereof.
NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 06/08/2024 18:04

Except they're women

Floisme · 06/08/2024 18:22

It's so, so difficult isn't it - the sex tests say male, passports say female. How on earth do you decide? If only there was a way of settling it....

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 06/08/2024 18:25

I thought being a woman was defined by the sexual organs you have and the ability to menstruate and have children?

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 06/08/2024 18:04

Except they're women

Really? What evidence do you have to support that thesis? The IBA, who admittedly are not a bastion of virtue, banned them on the basis of tests that apparently indicated they are male. Neither athlete appealed the ban (well, one did initially but then withdrew the appeal). If they were, in fact, women, surely they would have been keen to overturn the ban?

No, it isn't. Female is the sex which produces large gametes.for sexual reproduction - throughout nature, not just in humans.

People with DSDs may have ambiguous genitalia that make determining the sex visually at birth a difficult task. In some cases it it only when the expected puberty doesn't happen that the issues become clear.

And no, the ability to menstruate and have children is not a prerequisite for being a woman.

And a woman is an adult human female.
