No live footage of Lin Yu-ting vs Sitora Turdibekova??

AmandaHoldensLips · 02/08/2024 20:05

Am I missing something or is there no live coverage or footage to be seen anywhere of the Lin Yu-ting vs Sitora Turdibekova boxing fiasco today?

Lin Yu-ting won (unsurprisingly) and it's almost like some kind of clean-up operation going on. Not been able to see the fight anywhere.

Did anybody manage to see it or have a link?

I think Sitora's face says it all.

Yes Ive been looking for it.
Youtube will surely turn up some at some point.

Poor woman its so grossly ludicrously batshitly unfair!

corlan · 02/08/2024 20:11

I watched it live on the BBC iplayer - might be there somewhere?

titchy · 02/08/2024 20:11

It was on iplayer - I watched it.

I watched the first round and the last (had to tune out and gather my breath, because it was grim). I didn't know which colour they'd be in, but it was immediately obvious who the man was. He totally overmatched her, not least because his arms were so much longer. She was holding back tears at the end.

And the BBC's fawning commentary was bloody awful. Where has honest journalism gone?

Keepingcosy · 02/08/2024 21:25

I watched it live. The commentary was like something out of 1984. The contrast in physique, it's obvious just how male Lin is, and then to have fawning male BBC commentators going 'she's commanding the ring wonderfully'.

Having my kids with me, I threw a baby wipe at the TV in disgust & at least educated my elder child that men shouldn't box women.

If you do see it, watch Sitora's face. I think it spoke of the injustice. She has the same look Carini did yesterday.

OuterSpaceCadet · 02/08/2024 22:31

This whole thing is like an episode of Black Mirror (although I expect Charlie Brooker is incongruent on this subject as are most entertainment industry).

OvaHere · 02/08/2024 23:07

The collusion repulses me.

The BBC in particular are not fit for purpose.

He's never commented on it to my knowledge and his wife Konnie Huq got like policed on Twitter for liking GC posts. I think that says everything.

Lilyann60 · 03/08/2024 00:12

Lin Yu-Tings body was to me just like a post adolescent young male .
I wonder did He/She (?) go through male puberty. I have two sons and I remember that post adolescent masculinity in my lads. So obviously a male in my experience. I’m 🤬🤬🤬 and just want to hug those two women robbed of their right to compete fairly with other women in the true spirit of what this competition once was . I’ll be watching closely the rest of this event.

Its utterly shameful.

I'm struggling to feel anything but rage about this whole thing. They seem to be keeping this match on the down low, presumably to avoid the same response that people had to Carini's fight.

This is so unfair. They're going to let two men cheat the Olympics and get on the podium for medals that belong to women.

Meanwhile, men on social media are having a field day slagging off JKR and writing long posts about DSDs and telling women how complicated it is. It's not fucking complicated. It's men hitting women for sport.

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 03/08/2024 09:00

To be fair, it's not unusual for men to assume that their 24hr awareness of a topic trumps any research and writing that women may have been doing and discussing for decades. It's women's fault for having high, squeaky voices and possibly (less sure about this) typing in hidden away areas like Mumsnet and in high, squeaky ways.

It's not just men. Depressingly, I have seen so many long posts from women, angry that these two are being called men. Telling people they are hateful and these two 'women' just have high testosterone. We should all be kind 🙄

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 03/08/2024 09:58

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one enraged by this bullshit. I sort of hope that this wakes some people up to what has been going on, but another part of me thinks some people just don't want to see, so they will ignore it and hope it goes away.

The IOC have been getting away with this for years, and have made it clear they don't care about the effect on female athletes.

I'm not sure what it would take to get this changed, maybe a mass boycott or something.

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 10:26

If you look at comments here, or on articles in the mainstream press (not the left wing press) then most people see it for what it is - males cheating and using women's sports to get medals.

But there's such a huge campaign of misinformation. Even otherwise sensible people are saying, 'well she doesn't have a penis,' 'she was born a girl,' etc.

It's clear that these are males with XY chromosomes who have previously been disqualified from women's boxing on account of not being women. Whatever DSDs or identities or feelings they may have about it - and I'm willing to agree that they may be very distressed and traumatised - are completely irrelevant to their position in terms of sports. They are MALES, they need to compete with other MALES, and if that's not possible, then let's start looking at a third category for trans and DSD athletes.

The pressure to have compassion and empathy for these poor "women" is so shallow. Where's the compassion and empathy for actual women? Why don't they matter?

My location being the UK 😡

It works for me, Bosky, and I'm in England.

Runor · 03/08/2024 15:33

I think the only option available would be for the women to enter the ring, then immediately leave. The IOC’s main focus is a ‘good’ games without too much controversy. The best way to make them take notice is to create that controversy. I know how hard that would be, given the lifetime training it has taken to get there though :-(

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 16:38

I'm scared a woman is going to be killed. Carini surrendered her match fearing for her life.

Yes exactly - the Irish media is going all out with numerous articles about how unfair and terrible this is.

https://www.breakingnews.ie/olympics-2024/father-of-boxer-imane-khelif-defends-his-daughter-and-says-attacks-against-her-are-immoral-1657781.html

They only vaguely mention 'athletes with XY chromosomes'....so male athletes then! FFS. And loads of guff about how 'she' just wants to compete - nobody is stopping these male athletes from competing in the male competition. They just shouldn't be in the female competition.

The media is so far down the rabbit hole with this shit it's nauseating.

duc748 · 03/08/2024 23:14

Earlier tonight I looked at at a few threads on FB, many of them initiated by The Independent paper. Who often limit who can post on their threads. But anyway, the chorus of bigots, #bekind, etc, was pretty disappointing. These poor non-white women, bullied by privileged first-worlders who are tied to Western stereotypes of female appearance, etc etc.

CorruptedCauldron · 03/08/2024 23:52

Let’s say we got this all horribly wrong and the two boxers are actually biological females with no male-advantage DSD.

The fact remains that we effectively have self-ID at the Olympics, in a sport where you win by punching someone repeatedly in the face. The only sex test that the IOC conducts is to look at the sex marker on an athlete’s passport.

That is unforgivable batshit bonkers. That is not safeguarding women, it is throwing them under the bus and making a mockery of their sport. It is also degrading for any butch-looking female boxers who are perfectly eligible to fight but have people speculating about their sex if their punching power looks suspiciously strong.

Everyone should have to prove their sex, with a simple and non-invasive cheek swab. There must be no ambiguity. Lives may depend on it.

I have been so saddened and disappointed by all the people on social media rabidly insulting those who dare to question the eligibility of these boxers. The fact remains that we don’t know the full truth because the IOC seems desperate to muddy the waters. Time for transparency. What are they so afraid of?
