Well well well Kath Viner...
This is extraordinary the Guardian is turning, slowly, but turning. Its not the Observer either people, but the G, the paper that has actively promoted lies for 6 years on this topic, done no reporting and suppressed reporters who try.
Hadley Freeman and Suzanne Moore hats off to you, OJ must be delighted ...😂https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/aug/02/boxing-olympics-lisa-nandy-imane-khelif-lin-yu-ting

They'll walk it back.

We may as well set a timer.

miri1985 · 02/08/2024 17:52

"Adams cast doubt on the testing carried out by the IBA. “We don’t know if the test was accurate. We don’t know whether we should believe the test,” he said, adding that there was “a difference between the test taking place and whether we accept the accuracy or even the protocol of the test”.

Addressing the issue of sex testing, Adams said “it’s impossible to have a sex test that is comprehensive and works and it’s not discriminatory.” He added: “I don’t think anyone wants to see a return to some of the scenes. I know some of those athletes who underwent sex tests in their teens. It was pretty disgraceful. And luckily, that is behind us.”"

Of course sex testing is going to be discriminatory, thats the whole point. I hate that his whole attitude is we don't know what the tests say but we'd prefer not to carry out any of our own.

Why can't the IOC explain why there are sex/testosterone rules for some of the athletics but not the combat sports, surely one is potentially much more detrimental to another persons health if competitions are unfair

FuzzyPuffling · 02/08/2024 17:55

@miri1985 . Exactly my thoughts.

Surely a sex test should be discriminatory, in that it is there for the sole purpose of sorting two groups with different characteristics.

murasaki · 02/08/2024 17:55

It has to be discriminatory, that's the whole point of of having different classes, weight, sex, whatever, in sport.

The space betwee articles and walking it back is getting larger.
Ive been following this crap since 2017, this is the first headline of its kind.

I don’t understand why the IOC’s spokesperson said they will not return to the bad days of sex testing. Surely sex testing would resolve this issue. What would be wrong with that?

They'll be proved wrong. Aw diddums.

Helleofabore · 02/08/2024 17:57

Thanks Omlette. And gosh you are right. It is not the Observer

IkaBaar · 02/08/2024 17:58

Sex testing via a cheek swab would be fine, I don’t think anyone is proposing we return to genital examinations!

DiamondGoldandSilver · 02/08/2024 17:58

The IOC’s spokesperson even said that no one would want to return to the days of sex testing. Err… I think that’s exactly what women want. Talk about gaslighting!

The IOC is one of the most chaotic corrupt institutions there is.
Their name is a byword in corruption and has been for decades.
What I'm interested in is the money trail behind all this. You know there is a large one.

Thanks for the link. I feel exasperated that whoever conducted that interview didn't have the gumption to ask, ' But why was it so uncomfortable for you, Lisa Nandy?'

But still good to see The Guardian covering it. When I think back to their Wi Spa reporting a few years ago, this does feel very different. And I know a lot of people who don't believe anything until they've read about it in the Graun.

Those emails to G HQ help

Agree. Not the most incisive of articles but sooooo much better than WiiSpa. Not tempted to renew my subscription yet mind you

This.

I'm sick of hearing about inclusion in the context of elite sport - by it's very nature it's not inclusive otherwise it would just be every rando of whatever sex, weight, age etc rocking up and take part rendering the whole thing meaningless.

No, me neither, I'd rather take out a subscription to the Times.
The G has done incalculable harm.
God knows how many kids were/are 'transitioned' because of them.
Not quite as bad as the BBC however which should be raised to the ground starting with that friggin statue!
Could it be more of a grostesque slap in the face?

The wonderful Janice Turner has a column in the Times. I know the Times & Janice have been at the forefront of exposing this for years unlike the sad old captured Guardian - but it's well worth reading:

Tbf the headline is a quote. I'd be more convinced if it was The Guardian's free choice of headline.

1apenny2apenny · 02/08/2024 18:49

What we need is a few female and male athletes to come forward and take the swab test. We then need to appeal to the general public for individuals with DSDs to come forward (I know this is a massive ask) to also take the test.

This will show the world, and specifically sports bodies and the IOC, that it really isn't complicated at all. That there are indeed only 2 sexes.

PermanentTemporary · 02/08/2024 18:51

Don't forget the Grauniad is frequently accused of being transphobic.

I hope eventually this will focus attention where it should be - on the question of whether category verification for IOC events is adequate. I've no doubt that a major part of this is political manipulation by a highly corrupt IBA, but the also corrupt in a different way IOC left themselves wide open. They started this, almost literally, in 2003, then have been total wet lettuces whenever the oppressive effects of their past action becomes clear. They need to stop hanging athletes out to dry and take a bit of responsibility.

RadicalisedPastThePointOfSalvation · 02/08/2024 19:06

Really Lisa? Maybe you’ve got an idea now about women having been banging on about the past few years. Even though you’re still saying it’s “complex”, FFS.
