Been thinking of the responses to Southport in respect of this line in particular

in the mind of patriarchal nationalists, the border marks the difference between women who belong to the men of the nation – ‘our women’ – and the women who belong to the foreigner – ‘their women.’

I think part of the issue this week has been the outrage from the far right about "our children". Last night there were reported chants of "save our children" alongside "stop the boats".

To me this resonates with the increasingly hyperbolic online discourse around safeguarding and "groomers" and highlights the need for a balanced view.

I fully agree that feminism needs male allies but imo the important work for them to be doing is speaking to other men, not debating with women on whether their fear or concerns of right wing male violence is justified.

Well that wasn't my intention, I was trying to debate to what extent the GC movement is influenced/ infiltrated by the far right. But you probably have a point that I'm too stealthily male here. I know announcing it every post is also frowned on. If I post here again I'll pick a more obvious male UN. But I should probably just take this opportunity to get over my intense aversion to reddit and go and start losing arguments there instead

funny how none of them seem to have saying fuck all about a rapist at the olympics? almost like this is just an excuse to get drunk, fight the police and intimidate anyone they perceive to be muslim.

As a GC feminist myself I find it disgusting these rioters are being portrayed as having "reasonable concerns" similar to women. Not in my name, thanks.

I joined MN for FWR and recently those gems are few and far between - FWR imo has been "ahead of the curve" in becoming intolerant of other views and hostile to people asking questions.

Yeah. But it would be nice if some of the loud voices on here had the good grace to apologise to posters they gave a good kicking to for raising concerns. (I'm not talking about myself but the anonymous posters repeatedly hounded off the board for asking questions, that encouraged me to start paying more attention to KJK and speaking out).

I read the rest of the thread after making my post Cassie, and it was ramping up in a way I'm not wanting to be part of.
I'm big picture thinker and can get pulled in when the big themes I'm interested in seem to be at play and strike a chord with me. But seeing my very personal thoughts embedded in, and pulled into something that feels like its going in the unhealthy and scary direction I was trying articulate made me very uncomfortable.
I'll save my input for less heated debates I think!
