Great article, but oh so depressing and frustrating, in that when it’s all laid out like that, I just can’t see how anyone could claim they don’t see the problem with trans ideology.

They must have their eyes screwed shut and their hands clamped over their ears.

I agree with you. Ed to say, I know they do as I've tried to have the conversation with people who do exactly that. And they then end the conversation, sometimes quite dramatically, if you offer arguments that they can't counter.

Then there's dozens of other high profile GCs like Jo Cherry, Doc Stock, Helen Joyce, Julie Bindel etc.

To be fair, I'd say that vast majority of the British public would never have heard of any of them. JKR is different, obviously.

I’d agree that they are not well known names. But they have got this issue into the mainstream media.

And I also think that this is a great article. Think it’s about time I wrote to my new MP and will share this.

duc748 · 13/07/2024 12:34

Oh, absolutely, @Forester1 , I said so upthread. And it is slowly spreading across the media. But some way to go before we see such a piece in the Guardian, I think.

That's what I meant, thanks.

Jenni has a good history:

See CFW post with link to her 2019 article.

There was a Mumsnet thread at the time but I haven't managed to find it yet.

Doesn't KS have a child who identifies as trans? I fear he completely believes people should be able to identify however they like....& he'll respect that.

Floisme · 13/07/2024 14:11

Thanks for the link. It's great to see this discussed out in the open in the mainstream media. Real progress.

However once the GRA 'simplifications' are presented to the House of Commons then JKR, Jo Cherry, Doc Stock, Helen Joyce, Julie Bindel etc will have no say.

Labour have a massive majority and, even if large numbers of their own MPs were to defy the party whip (which seems unlikely) then I imagine the Lib Dems, SNP and Greens would still see it over the line.

Sorry for my negativity but I do think we need to be clear about what we're up against now..

Jenni Russell is a really good writer. This article sets out the issues plainly and simply. I'm also glad to see her give real-life examples of the impact of having trans-identifying men in women's spaces. People always accuse women who mention toilets as being pearl-clutchers - hers is the first article I've seen in the mainstream media to mention trans-identifying men posting videos of themselves masturbating in women's toilets. I hope that has an impact.

I take your point, but I'm absolutely all for people identifying any way they like. Man , woman, cat, bird, alien, elf, hobbit, you do you in whatever way that makes you happy and I'll cheer you on.

The limits of your freedom of self expression are when your actions affect other people's rights, equality, access and freedoms of self expression.

The issue is not identification: it's men demanding to control and use women and to own all spaces. That has nothing to do with identification and everything to do with male dominance and sex based inequality, and just bloody awful behaviour. It is absolutely possible to add more and new resources to meet the wishes of self identified elves, hobbits, cats, yada yada while at the same time protecting and insisting on the respect of facilities and provisions for other groups. Answers must work for all: not separate into the givers and the takers, the powerful and the service humans.

I don't care if Starmer has twelve trans kids at home: the issue isn't trans. The issue is not enabling the control and subordination and exclusion of women in law. He ought to be able to get his head around that. Any basically rational person should.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/07/2024 14:28

What a great article clearly laying out so many of the dreadful things happening.
I keep waiting for an expose by the press of the nature of some of the individuals pushing this destructive ideology at society. Has nobody made the links between a transwoman with a history of supporting the most extreme porn involving representations of real women artists being mutilated and murdered, alongside openly campaigning to reduce the age of certain safeguarding protections for children. And now in court demanding that the ban on puberty blockers for children is removed?

Come on society - wake up! This is happening in plain sight.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 13/07/2024 14:41

That is a well written precise article. Thank you for posting.

Edited

Yes, by saying something like ‘educate yourself.’

So fucking frustrating.

Yes I was going to post about the masturbating. Not enough people know about these aspects.

Self-identifixation causes all of the issues you identify. We have historically had spaces and resources exclusively for women. But if "woman£ becomes an identity that anyone can adopt, then men can use them too. The only way to avoid this this is to places limits on self-identidication; to insist on the material reality of sex and other characteristics. They are not identities than can be opted into, but immutable biological facts.

Adam Boulton has just been discussing Jenni Russell's column with Jenni and Libby Purvis on Times Radio. It was a very frank discussion. Both Jenni and Libby made the point that many male transitioners do so for fetishistic reasons. AGP was specifically mentioned. I think this is the first time I've heard this being said (at all) on MSM.
