Temporary legislation to stop private clinics prescribing puberty blockers runs out on 3 September.

We’ve written to the Heath Secretary, Wes Streeting, to urge him to extend this ban.

This is a health emergency affecting mostly LGB young people.

LGB Alliance
.

I cant find what they have written, but thought I would post this reminder.

Partly because in a short while House of Commons goes into Summer Recess, and then doesn't return until September.

If anyone has more information, or can clarify please do add!

Wes Streeting has put up a thread explaining his position.

Cass Review found there is not enough evidence about the long-term impact of puberty blockers for gender incongruence to know whether they are safe or not, nor which children might benefit from them.

The evidence should have been established before they were ever prescribed. 2/9

If anyone's on twitter they might want to give him a positive response!

My respect for him is going up.

Do you have a link please?

Many thanks for the link.
Respect to Wes Streeting.

Wes is coming across as very measured. I'm impressed. I do wonder what he's really thinking about the 'both sides are toxic' rhetoric which keeps being spouted?

SmudgeHughes · 14/07/2024 19:28

Of course we’ve also seen the usual nonsense from Alastair Campbell and Rory Stuart this week on gender issues, as emerged in their interview the former PM of Denmark.

The lads can’t understand why women/feminists/JK Rowling are so angry about gender identity issues. As Hadley Freeman tweets, if only there was a way for them to understand, if only they could read the Cass report, for example, or speak to Helen Joyce, Maya Forstater, JK Rowling, Prof Stock.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 15/07/2024 18:58

So now they are saying the kind speech will include ‘ban on conversion therapy’ bit?

ffs. Labour suck.

Pleased to see the sensible position continues (at least for now).

Why not make it permanent?

I suppose there is some process to be gone through. ie to come up with an "alternative" treatment.

But am glad they aren't giving way.

Just worry that we will turn round in 3 or 6 months time and found they haven't re-newed it.

think the days of trying to sneak this stuff through under the radar are well and truly over-they are under the microscope and they know it.
