Temporary ban on private clinics prescribing puberty blockers runs out on 3 September 2024

Temporary legislation to stop private clinics prescribing puberty blockers runs out on 3 September.

We’ve written to the Heath Secretary, Wes Streeting, to urge him to extend this ban.

This is a health emergency affecting mostly LGB young people.

LGB Alliance
.

I cant find what they have written, but thought I would post this reminder.

Partly because in a short while House of Commons goes into Summer Recess, and then doesn't return until September.

If anyone has more information, or can clarify please do add!

If there was a decent, investigative documentary on this on one of the main channels, would that open people's eyes?

NoWordForFluffy · 12/07/2024 13:52

The tweet is daft really though. Where does he suggest people go, given the difficulty in actually getting a visa to live elsewhere?

He's being a hyperbolic fool.

Nope. Not the true believers in gender woo.

Can we just remember that one of the Directors of the Good Law Project is also a Director of Mumsnet.

Talk about conflict of interest!

Not the true believers, but perhaps some of the general public who are trying to 'be kind' and progressive, but are totally ignorant of the harm that is being done?

NoWordForFluffy · 12/07/2024 13:56

Jeez. I'd missed that nugget of info!

I tend to think of those types as being rather dim (rightly or wrongly). I'm not sure they'd get it.

I do wonder if Jolyon will at some point be jettisoned from GLP, he is incredibly damaging to their image

The people who have been accusing Hillary Cass, JK Rowling, Kishwer Falkner and all of the rest of us of being hate groups with "blood on our hands" are now turning on Wes Streeting.

This is really cheeky, but I just dont have time to read the tweets.

Do you know if anyone is going to do a summary?

Or I suppose I can book mark for the weekend ...

How can they still be so naive, or is there income involved?

To be honest, I would't bother, as it was very dry. Basically lots of refering back to previous cases across Europe that they deemed relevant for one reason or another, or pointing to bits in the skeleton argument which we don't have access to. Probably best to wait until the judgment comes out.

Thanks - and looks like some papers are covering it, so could always skim them.

Off topic - I wonder how much money the legal profession has made out of the transing of society. Not underestimating the amount of money that has come via donations, that would in a more sane world gone into something pro-active and useful, rather than needing to stop certain levels of madness.

Just because some might enjoyo reading this, here is the Good Law Project's very own summary of the hearing.

https://goodlawproject.org/update/labour-defends-tory-trans-healthcare-ban-that-will-have-a-grave-impact-on-young-lives/

What I take away from this is that the GLP is outraged that the wrote to Wes Streeting pointing out everything that was wrong about how the ban had been brought him - and he ignored them!

I think this is why they are doing all this leaking about Labour will do this that and the other, when all that has been said is the temporary ban could be extended whilst further investigations are done.

Really in years to come whatever is the equivilent of tv dramas, there will be endless source material focusing on the everyday hysterics of people who existence seems to depend on them being able to have at least one hissy fit a day.

So now that the Tories have gone, they are without a cardboard cutout tyrant so they are hastily remodeling the old version to be more Wes Streeting!

Labour defends Tory trans healthcare ban that will have a “grave impact” on young lives - Good Law Project

The new health secretary has defended a Tory ban on puberty blockers for young trans people being heard in the High Court. He added he’d like to make it permanent, despite repeated warnings of the risk to young people’s lives

Do you know what Peter Kyles role and stance in all this is?
He is very pro banning "conversion therapy"

Sarah Sultana MP has just posted this. I despair.

https://twitter.com/zarahsultana/status/1812159140258611284?t=X1-OyyQk0GKD4OEkuF44tA&s=19
Labour's manifesto promised to "remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition & acceptance".

That entails ending the Tories' ban on puberty blockers.

Young people – cis & trans – must have access to healthcare they need. I'll always stand with the trans community.

This is very concerning. Even if she isn't a Minister it shows that some (the majority?) of Labour MPs are fully on board with the trans agenda.

Bad enough that we had to rely on Kemi Badenock to take a stand amonst the Tories, but who have we got amongst the Labour cabinet?

It will be very interesting to see how KS handles this -culture wars haven't ended yet. Wonder if /when he'll support Wes Streeting.

I’ve met young people who’ve been prescribed puberty blockers. Some told me they’d helped lift them from depression & probably saved their life.
A blanket ban is wrong & not what Cass recommended. Careful, clinical provision is the way forward, not this politicisation.

https://twitter.com/NadiaWhittomeMP/status/1812213557397750218?t=TmNQWBeR4ODBjnDNdazOSg&s=19

Only a small number of young people are prescribed puberty blockers. Those who are often describe them as life-saving.

I know the distress the puberty blockers ban is causing them.

No matter what happens in court, I will continue fighting for the government to scrap it.

https://twitter.com/IanSollom/status/1812235953337184671?t=RZZyXUKkh3spOxssCzQpdA&s=19

I’m deeply concerned at news that Wes Streeting is considering making the ban on puberty blockers permanent.

Sensitive healthcare decisions are profoundly personal and are best taken on an individual basis with appropriate professional support - not by the health secretary.

https://twitter.com/stellacreasy/status/1812188020587585905?t=RZZyXUKkh3spOxssCzQpdA&s=19

Cass review recommended caution, not exclusion, for any treatment and drew attention to shortcomings of previous GIDs service.
To those asking will always be MP who listens to demand for better research & evidence base for help for those with gender dysphoria, not abandons them.
