Anneliese Dodds: what has happened to her?

Annelise Dodds was re-elected as MP in a safe seat and I had thought that she would be Minister for Women or similar. I can't find any reference to her as chair of the Labour Party or as Minister and I checked the Labour Party website etc.
I spotted her in a red dress* at the place outside where MPs were waiting to be called to see Starmer, having been summoned, but it was confusing because she was not allowed to go forward for a while when others were (or simply was early and had to wait). She didn't seem very happy about that).

*That's how I noticed her.

He didn't pretend. He wrote it down in the manifesto and ran away from interviews. The ones he couldn't run away from, he stumbled and twaddled and fumbled.

Glad I didn't vote for it. I can safely say I didn't enable this. But maybe the scales will fall from a few eyes now. Probably not though.

One for women and another for “women”?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2024 11:39

Just announced. She has women and equalities plus Development

She's truly dreadful. I can't imagine she will be any better at Development.

Rightsraptor · 08/07/2024 11:45

@HPFA - Dodds might have had a meeting with LGBA but that in itself is next to meaningless. Do you know of any outcomes from that meeting? Anything positive?

(Edited to add pp's name)

What is Bridget Phillipson’s position on single sex spaces?

HermioneWeasley · 08/07/2024 11:48

Fuck Starmer. This couldn’t be a more obvious “fuck you” to us uppity women who think women don’t have a penis. We’re being punished

fuck him

That's a very white Cabinet😏

Donteventhinkofcallingmecis · 08/07/2024 11:55

God - I had a nasty feeling it was going to be Dodds. Right - deep breaths all round and time to roll sleeves up. I just hope the remaining sane, sex realist, gender critical MPs across the house can get stuck into some seriously cross-party working. Deep sigh...

WarriorN · 08/07/2024 13:10

@Tinysoxxx I need to listen again, but yep, sounded like it

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 08/07/2024 13:26

Sadly, this highlights the tokenism of Women, Equalities and Development and the poverty of ambition associated with those responsible roles.

Still plenty of scope for AD and BP to do a lot of damage, of course. (Like the social media interns who can so readily bring an institution or company into a row that the senior personnel knew nothing about.)

feellikeanalien · 08/07/2024 13:49

Sorry don't think that link works.

Tinysoxxx · 08/07/2024 14:13

Dodds may come into conflict with herself.

It is well known that single sex toilets have increased the number of girls going to school in developing countries. Many charities (Plan,WaterAid) have created single sex facilities and paid special attention to where they are situated etc so that girls and women are safe. It enables women to go out into the community and increases economic opportunities for them.

Rightsraptor · 08/07/2024 15:11

It's a conundrum all right. Why do girls and women in the developing world have such a pressing need for single sex, safe toilets but women and girls in the west don't?

I can't think of an answer, unless it's that Jonny Foreigner is such an utter cad that he'll stop at nothing to get his evil way with the ladies, whereas your fine upstanding British chap would never dream of such behaviour.

UtopiaPlanitia · 08/07/2024 17:40

When you really think about it, that’s quite a racist and classist view these politicians hold: non-white, economically disadvantaged men in the developing world can’t be trusted to treat women with respect whereas white, less economically disadvantaged men can be inherently trusted around women to the point that we will actively lessen legal and societal safeguards to make them feel happy and make them, and ourselves, feel virtuous.

Calling · 08/07/2024 18:30

@UtopiaPlanitia So long as it makes the men (all sorts...) happy in the West, it seems that is what matters.
