Do we know who the new Minister for Women will be, or if we will even have one? Maybe Minister for How I Identify.

Vallance had us locked down for months and months, destroying children's education. And the "science" on the masks? Check the US committee investigating Fauci for how well that will go.

God it would be awesome if he suddenly appointed Rosie, though pigs might fly.

Hoping Patrick Valance can be a voice of reason as far as science and biology are concerned. (No idea of his stance on these matters though).

Doctor Lockdown.

Just trying to find a list of Labour women MPs. Found this - from the Fawcett Society.!
Our trustee, Naushabah Khan, has won her seat as the Labour MP for Gillingham and Rainham.
Maybe not Minister for women and equalities, but maybe Minister for Women?

crumpet · 07/07/2024 10:02

The card in front of Annelise Dodds in the cabinet meeting said Minister for Development. The job description is below. Gender, not women, is mentioned

Dodds isn’t Chair of the Labour Party any more, apparently.

Um, you know that the Fawsett Society has been captured?

Fawcett Society confirms that men can be women | Mumsnet

Yes I know. I'm trying to think of candidates and I can't think of any potentials from the old guard. Surely they'd have said if it stayed with Dodds. So it's not going to be with a Cabinet Member.

IwantToRetire · 07/07/2024 22:01

If it was to be the second job for one of these listed here, which of these Cabinet Ministers would you pick?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starmer_ministry

Of course, it is more than possible that Starmer may demote the position, and not be covered by a Cabinet Member.

Morre chance for Rosie Duffield?

Shabana Mahmood based on her previous statements but it's unlikely to be a brief given to the Lord Chancellor.

Quite a lot of them we have no idea of their views.

I'm really loathe to say this because I still don't have a lot of trust in him but Wes Streeting might not be too terrible based on recent statements. Better than Rayner or Nandy anyway.

I think the delay could be due to one or two things. Either nobody wants to take it as it's seen as a poisoned chalice or they're going to change, rebrand or even drop the role.

I think they want to drop it because they know if is still an issue and dont want any attention placed on it, which will happen if there is a Minister for Women AND Equalities. (whose rights will be prioritised - I think we already now that, sadly)

On yesterday's Any Questions (repeat from friday evening) everyone was gushing about Labour "victory".

Was shocked that the best the BBC could do was drag out from the back seats of history Polly Toynbee, Lord Falkner and some other has been. (Aren't they meant to be aiming for a younger audience.)

So one of the panelists raised the issue that Labour was out of kilter with the public re women's rights being eroded by trans rights.

And in unison they all replied this silly woke war would be ended know that the Tories weren't in Government.

And as it turned out the person who raised it is someone classified as right wing.

So is this what is going to happen?

Everybody will just turn round and say there's nothing to worry about, it was all just a distraction by the Tories to inflame the woke war?

Based on scant knowledge I think I agree, but more as a result of negativity about others. Sad

They're between a rock and a hard place on this.

Anything but a neutral choice risks PR disaster on either side, and I'm hoping that we have finally managed to make women as difficult to annoy as gender activists. Judging by Harman's comments, the given line appears as of this morning is to do nothing, deny everything and get Really Cross. In the desperate hope that people will just shut up and not require actual functional answers to this unholy mess.

Imnobody4 · 08/07/2024 09:48

Posred this on the other thread.
.Just seen this from the Fawcett Society - they're waiting too.

Labour committed to bringing in a Secretary of State for Women and Equalities last year, and we very much hope they will deliver on this commitment in coming days. [2/2]

I didnt know this. I really think he can't find anyone capable/willing to take it on

Rubidium · 08/07/2024 11:03

It’s Phillipson and Dodds, apparently.

teawamutu · 08/07/2024 11:13

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Edited

Sounds unfortunately like a comedy act or a firm of solicitors from an Austen novel.

Floisme · 08/07/2024 15:35

I'm actually slightly relieved. The longer it dragged on, the more I began to think we were about to get Dawn Butler, Stella Creasy or Kate Osborne.

IwantToRetire · 08/07/2024 20:13

Just adding this here, as while we were waiting to hear about W&E various other appointments were commented on, including those being parachuted into the HoLs to accomplish this.

I genuinely dont understand the Labour / Starmer reasoning for this, but why so many are being passed over for long disbraced and out of date non MPs.

And Emily Thornberry response to being dumped

And this from the National
Keir Starmer blasted as he gives expenses scandal MP plum job
https://archive.ph/zIts7

And, although the sentence is convoluted it seems the "outsider" appointed to the post of Attorney General is the one that Starmer has turned to re international law and Israel. (Let's hope it wasn't him who okay Starmer's comment that starvation is a legitimate weapon of war.) https://www.thenational.scot/news/24436187.keir-starmer-blasted-gives-expenses-scandal-mp-plumb-job/

Although could just be that he happens to be based at Matrix Chambers, which brings us back to Blair.

So for all we know Starmer is just the puppet of Blair and Mandelson, which would explain all this returns by those who we all thought had thankfully left politics.

Apologies - posted the wrong link for the comment about the "outsider" being appointed as Attorney General - should have been https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jul/06/starmer-non-political-ministers-government-of-all-talents-patrick-vallance-james-timpson

Plus on reading a bit more about Richard Hermer, it may be the other way round. Starmer having made unforgiveable remark re starvation was obviously taken in hand by Cherie Blair, and just like Tony had to explain to Starmer what a woman is, Hermer had to explain international law to Starmer. (Hermer apparently also told Gove who wanted BDS to be banned, that in a democratic country the Government cant just ban groups whose politics it doesn't like.)

So just another indication that Starmer is some sort of empty shell flip flopping this way and that, until someone gives him the correct prompts he is more likely than not to say the wrong thing.
