326 seats for a majority

An exit poll is a survey carried out after people have voted in an election. It aims to predict the result by asking people who they voted for. The exit poll is not held in Northern Ireland so the 18 seats there appear in “Others”.

Really glad to see that Reform voters seem to have helped get Rees Mogg out of the HoC.

Have never understood how he ever became an MP.

He has been just as much a malign force as Peter Madelson, who unfortunately seems to have been welcomed back by Labour.

I'm almost dreading to see who gets 'Women and Equalities'........unless, of course, they abolish that post.

It’s interesting that the Lib Dems tactics meant they managed to get a proportional number of seats.

FPTP is fine by me though. At least that way effective decisions can be taken, extreme fringes are kept at bay, and small minorities can’t hold the majority to ransom and force the government to concede to unpopular policies in order to get things passed.

Where I live, the Lib Dems were pretty much wiped out and didn't get a look in at all.

They were very strategic about where they canvassed and it was successful.

Actually, the Lib Dems ran in all constituencies in my region and have traditionally performed fairly well here - even running the city council on one occasion.

They collapsed here not because they didn't run, but because it is a Labour stronghold and the protest voters who didn't want to vote Labour turned to the Greens, to Reform or to spoiling their ballots - not to the Lib Dems.

They gained the most in Tory strongholds where people have a natural aversion to voting Labour.
