Interesting results coming through. It looks like all the tactical voting so that Labour doesnt have total power, payed off.
Its also possible that Labours larger gain was Scotland, the SNP are toast 😂

Interesting though that the BBC has just said that the Labour share of the vote is only up by 2%. That's not the amazing endorsement that a landslide result might indicate. Greens have stayed the same in terms of percentage of the vote.

It's a very interesting situation. I'd love to go back to Uni for a day to discuss this in seminar. We used to dream of something exciting like a hung Parliament (which were supposed to be virtually impossible under FPTP). We had no idea what political shenanigans we'd get in the new millennium. Looks like it does.

Which will please those on here who voted tactically to get their Tory MP out…

Sloejelly · 05/07/2024 05:40

How many seats have the Tories lost due to Reform? (Assuming they would receive most of Reform’s votes if Reform hadn’t stood in that constituency)

Never known exotic polls get it so wrong.

Yes it's definitely an anti-Tory result rather than a pro labour one and you can almost smell the ennui that explains the low turnout.

Labour will have overall power though.

So I hope they're not going to start the "some women have penises" reverse ferret shite again.

They will be under a lot of pressure to do so from their more left wing members.

Starmer has won in his constituency but his vote has been halved since last time, which reinforces the point.
Kemi won, as did Rosie Duffield thank goodness.

@Omlettes

Three dots top right of post.
5 Mins after posting it disappears.
Welcome :)

Thank you. Why only 5 minutes , seems odd.

There's an exit poll somewhere that says Argyll&Bute might have gone to the Conservatives from the SNP. A&B always declares very late.

Omlettes · 05/07/2024 05:57

Bloody tragedy, Joanna Cherry has lost her seat😩

She was good on women’s rights, but she was still SNP.

Igneococcus · 05/07/2024 06:36

Kirsten Oswald is out, woohoo.

As I've been banging on about for years now, women's rights will need constant campaigning no matter who's in power.

We changed one government position on self ID, we will do it again. Keep pulling.

I’m sad for David Davies. He did a lot to get the ball rolling with meetings in Parliament etc.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 11:41

A seat in Scotland won't be declaring until tomorrow as there is going to be a full recount. That is between SNP and Scottish Lib Dems.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 11:49

Question - did anyone catch what happened to "first trans MP" Jamie Wallis? Did he keep his seat?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 11:50

Ah I see he didn't stand after all. Sorry, I must have missed this announcement. As you were!
