Interesting results coming through. It looks like all the tactical voting so that Labour doesnt have total power, payed off.
Its also possible that Labours larger gain was Scotland, the SNP are toast 😂

I'm hoping to see the SNP get a sound thrashing though I'm apprehensive about the overall results.

But we are in a very different place from a few years ago. Women are organised, we have formed groups (WRN and similar) and we have won court cases that protect our views and the right to express them. Starmer would have to go full Gilead to remove those rights and I should imagine he’s going to be a bit too busy for those luxury beliefs.

On top of all that, the Overton Window has shifted. Many people support GC views. We WILL carry on speaking out, we WILL defend our rights and - possibly most importantly - we WILL continue to fund and win court cases.

And…we have JKR.

And KJK and a Party of Women.

Very true.

Plus though Labour might not want to admit it openly a big reason the SNP looks to be crushed is they could not accept biology is real.

Women took down the SNP which dominated Scotland. If Labour continue to push gender nonsense sooner or later they will get them too.

Wes Streeting knows this and other sensible people in Labour. So we gather in greater numbers and hold them to account.

Looks like it does.

Yes but apparently not with enthusiasm.
From the Guardian just now
'Turnout on course to be one of lowest in postwar history, says John Curtice
Prof Sir John Curtice, the psephologist who led the team that produced the exit poll, said early results are consistent with widespread expectations of a low turnout."

I was talking to a Scottish friend in the pub yesterday, no gender stuff was brought up on either side, I don't know her views. I asked her about the downfall of the SNP, she said it was the money. But I think Isla Bryson etc preceded that and was instrumental?

I hope its not Joanna Cherry

If she holds on it should send a message.

I said it was a big reason - there are others the corruption scandal, as you mention the ferry saga [the SNP failed to build boats], failures in NHS/Education, but they all combined in a particular SNP arrogance which destroyed them it seems.

It can be disheartening to see how deep gender stuff is entrenched in certain sectors, but it can also be peculiarly fragile remember ordinary people generally don't accept its extremes.

A big crisis Labour faced in this campaign was over women's issues and from this point they OWN control over the crisis points like prisons, changing rooms, schools, NHS, sports etc.

They can't shut us up because we have legal protection. People like those Nurses and sports women are going to keep speaking up. The issue might not have been decisive this election, BUT people voted Labour to fix the economy, protect NHS and reduce crime. If they spend their time instead saying women don't exist then just like the SNP that pride will come for a fall sooner or later.

I completely agree, and I also don't think they will be cut a lot of slack, in the social media era of politics. People rather grudgingly voted to get the Tories out.

Omlettes · 05/07/2024 02:59

Galloway is out, thank god for that.

Yes it's definitely an anti-Tory result rather than a pro labour one and you can almost smell the ennui that explains the low turnout.

Labour will have overall power though.

So I hope they're not going to start the "some women have penises" reverse ferret shite again.

They will be under a lot of pressure to do so from their more left wing members.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 03:11

That's what I braced for @Ereshkigalangcleg

I wonder if they put the gender magic stuff through focus groups at all? Or is it all #nodebate even at party policy level?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 03:25

I think there's an element of that, yes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 03:58

Carla Denyer the Greens leader took out Thangam Debonnaire by a huge margin in Bristol Central. KJK had 196 votes.

He grabbed that nomination at the very last moment after fleeing his constituency like a rat from a sinking ship. I imagine he's unpopular with some unseated Tories tonight.

MurielThrockmorton · 05/07/2024 05:28

Interesting though that the BBC has just said that the Labour share of the vote is only up by 2%. That's not the amazing endorsement that a landslide result might indicate. Greens have stayed the same in terms of percentage of the vote.
