Anyone voting SDP tomorrow?

I'm in a very safe Lib Dem seat (Daisy Cooper).

I don't want to vote for any of the three main parties. LD and Lab have lost my confidence due to their arrogant take on women's rights and safety, Tories haven't done enough during their time in power. I lost my beloved dad traumatically and too young during the pandemic due to Tory (mis)management and pressure on the NHS. I've never voted Tory and right now they're off the table for a variety of reasons.
Re. Greens, my feelings are similar to LD and Lab but even worse (would've possibly considered if their focus was the environment and not full of TRAs).

I don't particularly want to spoil my vote but I'm trying to find another option that isn't Reform. I'm having a browse of the SDP manifesto, are there any glaring horrors I shouldn't overlook? It looks fairly promising so far although not perfect.

I listened to William Clouston on Brendan O Neill's podcast and was really impressed. It felt like a grown up was talking. Sadly, I can't vote for them where I live

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 03/07/2024 20:33

I would if we had a candidate. They are realists on the genderwoo issue — they support women’s rights. Their other policies seemed ok. So they would have my vote if they would just put up more candidates.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/07/2024 20:36

I did when we had a by election. Unfortunately they are not standing here.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 03/07/2024 20:40

Considering it as a protest vote (and writing something on the paper as well). I'm in what I'm pretty sure will stay a Labour seat whatever I do, so that would be a way to express my views. If I thought they had a chance of getting in if have to think more about it though, cos I don't agree with some of their other policies. But then there's no party I AM really happy to vote for, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 03/07/2024 20:42

Thank you all 🙂

I'm sure we didn't have much more than Lab/Lib Dem/Tories/Greens last time but this time I have the choice of SDP, Heritage and Reform.

Not keen on the manifestos of the last two and since the seat is safe I'd like to vote for a party that recognises women's rights.

I'd vote SDP if we had a candidate standing where I am.

RandySavage · 03/07/2024 20:52

I would if I could

MsGoodenough · 03/07/2024 21:05

I am. I'm lucky there's an SDP candidate in my constiuency

Same here. I was quite impressed with that interview.

TreesAtSea · 03/07/2024 21:45

I've already voted for them by post. They don't stand a chance where I am, but I can't with good conscience vote for any of the other parties that are standing and I genuinely like what I've heard about the SDP. Particularly of course their stance on women's rights.

Igmum · 03/07/2024 21:50

I am. I did in 2019 as well also on the basis of who else can a leftie GC vote for. They are likely to lose their deposit mind you.

KohlaParasaurus · 03/07/2024 22:07

There is an SDP candidate in my constituency, but nothing about him gives me confidence that he would be an effective MP either at constituency or parliamentary level. Realistically, he's likely to lose his deposit. I might have voted for him if I didn't have a definite reason to choose one of the more credible candidates.

thirdfiddle · 03/07/2024 22:14

Me. Leftie and gender critical, they're the only option I have apart from a spoilt ballot.

AuntieSoap · 03/07/2024 22:16

Socially conservative, pro-Brexit, anti ECHR, anti immigration, pro- selective education. Rod Liddle is a member, if that gives you a clue. And they made some sort of pact with Reform, but they are standing against each other in some seats so I don't know what happened to that.

Yirk · 03/07/2024 22:23

They have my vote, their manifesto is quite impressive.

UtilitarianNameChange · 03/07/2024 22:27

I might’ve done but no candidate (and in a previous by-election the SDP candidate seemed like a bit of a prick, based solely on his Twitter account).

I am whatever the opposite is to enthralled by this entire GE.

Edited

Where I am Labour will definitely win.

I am considering voting SDP.

thirdfiddle · 03/07/2024 23:05

anti immigration

To be fair to them, no party is going to allow unlimited immigration - but I agree the phrasing of their manifesto is not encouraging.

Trouble is I have serious concerns with every party on the ballot paper. So it's a question of balancing up, or as I say spoiling.

Schoolchoicesucks · 03/07/2024 23:07

I saw an election advert they did on the BBC and forced DH to watch it on YouTube the next day. It was horrific. If it hadn't been on BBC I'd have assumed it was a joke. Dog whistles about the labour candidate being gay. Far too much video footage of a woman walking in London and then Rob Liddle outside a pub. I agree with them on owning public services but apart from that it all seemed a bit Reform....

I am also voting SDP mainly for their stance on women. I can’t vote for Labour, Lib Dems or Greens because they won’t protect women’s spaces and I can’t endorse the Tories or Reform. I have nowhere to go otherwise.

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 03/07/2024 23:12

I am voting for them but they’ve got no chance in my area. I have to say I didn’t know about Rod Liddle and that’s put me off somewhat but I thought their manifesto was one of the least bad.

PickAChew · 03/07/2024 23:18

I have, as a protest vote on a very safe labour seat. I'm not happy with all their policies. Little gems like "Married families will be given preference in council house and social housing allocation" in the Families section and the more specific line in the housing section "Married British families will be given preference in social housing allocation"

Just wondering where that leaves women who have had to leave their partners for any reason.

The second line of this looks straight out of a far right manifesto, and while the first one can be taken as not being in thrall to the likes of Stonewall, what about those DEI initiatives related to disability, or the needs of pregnant or breastfeeding staff? "The NHS will not fund DEI initiatives or champion any contested political causes.
Services will be provided in English and Welsh only."

RedDeerRunning · 04/07/2024 06:00

There's one standing in my area and I'm voting for them on the sex/gender issue alone.
I've previously been a lifelong Labour voter.

Same. Feeling fortunate as otherwise I would be looking at spoiling my ballot.
I think that is the only one I can vote for.

I am in a previously safer-than-a-safe-thing Tory constituency, I have no idea which way it will blow. Likely Lib.
